On Monday he met leader of the main opposition party, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Shahbaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab province, in the eastern city of Lahore and sought his support. The PML-N called an emergency meeting of senior leaders on Tuesday to weigh options and reports said that the meeting decided not to dislodge the government. The political crisis comes at a time when the United States has increased pressure on Pakistan to go after Islamist militant groups to help it turn around the faltering war in Afghanistan. 39 British Asians honoured for their essential contribution in the UK Kartik.S.Raval The New Year Honours 2011, principally for the United Kingdom and also the Commonwealth Realms, were announced on 31 December 2010 to celebrate the year passed and mark the beginning of 2011. British Asians like every year shined in the New Year Honours List. The year 2010 saw British Asians playing some pivotal role in various walks of life and hence the number of honours rose to 39 as compared to 15 in the last year. The recipients of honours were styled before their new honour, and arranged by the country whose ministers advised The Queen on the appointments, then by honour, with grades i.e. Knight/Dame Grand Cross, Knight/Dame Commander etc.and then if appropriate, divisions (i.e. Military and Civil). In total people were recommended to The Queen for the award. 74 per cent of the recipients are local heroes, who’ve undertaken outstanding work in their communities, while

the rest for their achievements in their professional fields and their service for the betterment of the society. Charity supporter and IT Chief, Ashok Rabheru has been awarded a Commander of the Victorian Order (CVO) in the New Year Honours List. Nawaz Sharif’s assurance of being not interested in bringing down Gilani led PPP government turned out to be short-lived relief for the Pakistan Prime Minister on Tuesday. Pakistan Muslim League – N of Nawaz Sharif issued an ultimatum for Gilani within hours, asking him to agree to reforms, including a roll back in the petroleum prices or else be prepared to face a no confidence motion. The former prime minister has given just 72 hours for the PPP government to decide. The series of events were triggered on Sunday after the MQM parted ways with the ruling coalition, primarily over the hike in the prices of petroleum products. Nawaz Sharif decided to seek his pound of flesh after a meeting with senior leaders of his party. Asked by reporters what would happen if the deadline were not met, he said: 'If the government
