ABRSM Music Teaching Courses

Introduction to Instrumental and Vocal Teaching Many musicians include some teaching as part of their career, which can be rewarding. You might teach in addition to performing or it may be your main source of income. Whatever your reason for going into instrumental teaching it is important to be up-todate with current trends in music education. It is also important to understand how to plan and deliver lessons effectively to ensure your students benefit from them.

What is the course about?

What does the course involve?

ABRSM’s Introduction to Instrumental and Vocal Teaching will help you to get started as a music teacher and suggest ways of dealing with the common issues that arise.

This one-day course offers an insight into instrumental and vocal teaching as a career, provides ideas on how to get started and the key skills required to succeed. Your course leader will outline key theories in music education and discuss ways to approach aspects of lesson planning. Throughout the day you’ll explore the skills required to become an effective music teacher and discover the many resources available to you. You don’t need to bring your instrument to this course.

Who is this course for? This course is for any musician who is considering instrumental or vocal teaching for the first time or who has recently started teaching.

What are the benefits for me?

What qualifications do I need? You don’t need any formal qualifications to enrol for this course although, you should be aged 16 years or over and already be a musician.
