ABS Better Beef Webinar Injemira Robert Redford New Bulls Sire Updates HCR Updates Around the Grounds Price Lists

@absaubeef

FOREWORD Welcome to the Autumn 2021 ABS Australia Beef Sire Update. Please use this update in conjunction with the ABS Australia 2020-21 Sire Directory. This Autumn Update introduces new sires to ABS Australia Beef Team the ABS lineup. With his phenotype, EBVs and Super Sires qualification, the $160,000 Australian record price Hereford bull, Injemira Robert Redford Q287, is destined to make a big impact in the industry. New Angus sires include the $60,000 young maternal balanced sire Millah Murrah Quixote Q96; the huge curve bending high carcass sire BCR Jet Stream 827 and the great phenotype balanced EBV Banquet Quarter Pounder Q252. The lineup has a new addition with the English Longhorn breed, featuring on page 14. The Update includes a review of the Hereford True Genetics Super Sire Program feature sire, Wirruna Matty M288. Also, this Update introduces graduates of the highly acclaimed ABS HCR program. This program has identified sires that have consistently achieve 8 to 15% higher conception rates in FTAI. Think of the decreased cost of pregnancies; and the bonus of more earlier calving cows and increased production in your operation. The recently announced results of the NHIA annual survey again provided much pride with the ABS Australia Beef team retaining the number one ranked position. The new price list has some changes and some pleasant surprises. It is best to call the beef team for updates on pricing, new inclusions and availability. The ABS Australia team is available and ready to assist cattle breeders, so please feel free to contact us.

Recently, at the National Herd Improvement Association (NHIA) dinner at the Herd21 conference, ABS Australia Beef Product and Sales Manager, Bill Cornell, was awarded the Laurie Wells award recognizing meritorious service to the Australian Herd Improvement Industry. This prestigious award was presented to Bill by Mr. Paul Quinlan, former National Sales Manager for ABS Australia. Over the past 40 years, Bill has played an instrumental role in the Australian beef industry serving on countless breed society and industry committees. Bill has also been responsible for the development and mentorship of countless seedstock and commercial producers throughout this time. Bill’s relationship with producers right throughout Australia has become like family, and here at ABS, Bill has very much become the ‘father figure’ to our members, most notably Kim, Annie and Fletch. Congratulations Bill from the ABS Global team.

Marc Greening’s sale book comments summarize the bull: Many are expecting me to say Redford Q287 is the greatest sire ever produced at Injemira but I will leave that up to you to decide! What I can say is that he is absolutely faultless in terms of structure and overall sire appeal. Back in October 2020 he scanned the biggest raw EMA ever for a ‘Spring’ drop bull and being a 2 y/o heifer’s first calf this is an achievement and demonstrates his quality and performance. It is so pleasing to see a bull that when you go into the paddock he is the first you notice then you look at his performance data and this backs it up. The performance data like the bull himself is faultless right throughout. Calving ease, low birth, high growth, huge EMA, positive fats and big marbling. It’s just unmatched for a bull with this quality phenotype and is recognised with all his $index values being in the top 1% of the breed.

IMPORTED ANGUS 29AN2025

We have selected a diverse range of bulls which cover many bases. Stellar is certainly a favourite and top selling semen sire. His calving ease with heifers and huge curve bending growth are fabulous. Stellar transmits his awesome phenotype into his progeny, inspection of heifers verify this and the massive acceptance and sale price of Stellar sons at Sitz’s confirm this. Command has been a go-to bull for many breeders. Sons in Australia are well accepted at sales for their strong, wide topline, muscle depth, soundness, great docility and calving ease EBVs. Fireball is the rising star, calving reports on heifers are excellent. The weaners are receiving rave reviews. We thank breeders for the awesome feedback. ‘Thanks, Fireball’s calves are very impressive, better than I had expected.’ ‘My Fireball’s are the most consistant calf crop I have every had in nearly 30 years. They are THICK!’

SITZ STELLAR 726D

‘Best heifer calf here is a Fireball!’

Owned by Sitz Angus Ranch, MT; ABS Global, Inc., WI.

Reports like this and add the EBVs, certainly a must consider sire!

29AN1972

Patriarch is in the top few semen selling sires in the USA. Patriarch was the massive must have phenotype bull when selling at Tehama. The bull’s good look and grand structural assessment combined with a great set of CE, good growth, punch and exciting NFI EBVs have led many to use him. Patriarch is gaining in popularity here in Australia, and new inventory has just arrived. Full House created enormous interest when he sold. Seven generations of ABS proven sires with data that rings the bells for breeders chasing calving ease, high growth, high IMF and moderate cow size.

2021 BEEF UPDATE

AUSTRALIAN ANGUS 29AN2116

The ABS Australia beef team is often asked, which bulls to use? which bulls are ‘hot’?, what is new? In pages 7 and 8 we highlight and update some sires that are sure to interest many breeders. New Ground, the $75,000 record price Tasmanian bull as the photo suggests has developed into an outstanding Angus bull. Calving reports from the field show New Ground progeny have calved unassisted from Angus seedstock and commercial heifers. Many breeders will repeat mating to heifers this season. The first 41 sons sold at the Landfall 2021 sale to a top of $36,000 and a fabulous average of $16,000. (The sale averaged $11,583). New Ground is now a proven bull, with near perfect EBVs and phenotype to boot! Paratrooper, the current record price Angus bull at $160,000 has performed simply beyond all expectations. Paratrooper has been used far and wide, progeny are born unassisted from heifers. The dimension, volume, mass and docility of the progeny as weaners and yearlings is unsurpassed.

LANDFALL NEW GROUND N90

Owned by Absolute Angus and ABS Australia.

29AN2123

Paratrooper has eclipsed all semen sales records for a beef bull of his age. The numerous calls and accolades for Paratrooper progeny are suggesting he is a must use bull for many seasons to come. Semen supply is very limited just now, but Paratrooper is heading to the semen collection centre. Keystone continues to make a large impression on the Angus landscape. Few bulls can offer the calving ease and curve bending growth. Keystone will add frame and length. Commercial acceptance continues. At the 2021 Landfall Sale 23 Keystone sons averaged $12,913 to be the second highest progeny group. Kicking remains in the top few semen selling sires. Commercial breeders love his platinum HCR performance, so many reports on one FTAI round 65% to 75%. The calves are born easily from heifers, then grow strongly to 400 and 600 days. Progeny look brilliant and are super docile. Quality Time and Queenslander are two new unproven bulls to the ABS team. Both bulls have been highly admired, their dams are superb. Their sire lines offer an outcross for ABS sire lines.

The $60,000 sale topper at the Banquet Sale 2021. Quarter Pounder features all we expect from Banquet, muscle expression, weight for age, heavy flesh, deep bodied and power. In terms of what we see today Quarter Pounder combines all the EBVs traits with phenotypic style. For those that love to review pedigrees Quarter Pounder is solid gold  Four crosses of the Kiwi Dream M41+92, matriarch to many great Angus cattle including being gdam of Dream Y301  Four crosses of Hingaia 469. The pedigree is loaded with great Banquet ancestry and features. Banquet sale toppers of the past sales Waltana ($19,000), Xplanation X060 ($30,000) and TimeFrame ($50,000). Quarter Pounder’s sire Gaffa G4, “adds length of body and extension of neck to his progeny while maintaining the traditional depth and thickness of the Banquet beast” (Banquet reference sires 2021). Gaffa’s dam Dream E096 was purchased for $38,000 at the Vermont Dispersal. Q252’s dam, L131, has calved each year with a 366 day spread and gdam J248 has calved every Spring. Quarter Pounder Q252 is potentially the star sale bull of 2021, as he covers all bases of royal pedigree, great phenotype with matching EBVs! EMA
