Single Parent Struggle
For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different. Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become more prevalent. In today's society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents? Does a young boy need a father figure around? Does the government provide help for single parents? What role do step–parents and step–siblings play? With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as they learn to mature. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with emotional, social and behavioral skills as those with two parents. People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be raised by both a mother and a father. When a topic such as this one has a broad amount of variables it is impossible to simply link these problems to only having one parent. In the article, "Single–parent families cause juvenile crime", author Robert L. Maginnis states, "Children from single–parent families are more likely to have behavior
Polito 1 problems because they tend to lack economic security and adequate time with parents". The simple statement that raw criminals are products of single–parent adolescence is absurd. What this writer must understand is that it can be extremely difficult for one parent to raise a child by themselves for many reasons. A single–parent must work full time to be able to afford to provide for themselves and their child. They must also be able to still have time to offer an exuberant amount of emotional time for the well being of their child. However, even though this may seem impossible, it can be done. As this

In Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo faces a lot of different challenges in his life. When he returned to his motherland after being exiled everything he knew was different. In the end he could no longer overcome the challenges and he chose to end his life. He rebelled against change in his religion, faced racism, and struggled with complications in his life style. This novel suggests that we see things fall apart when people choose to judge others based on their religion, race, and lifestyle.

Argumentative Essay On Climate Change
Climate change can be traced down to since the mid–1800s, when the industrial revolution first started taking place all around the world. Lives of human and animal species have been negatively affected since then, with events such as natural disasters, the melting of ice in polar regions, and change in weather and living conditions. Climate change in polar regions, in particular, has faced the most damage compared to any other region because of its location in regard to the sun. Climate change holds many different views and opinions about the effects, and even the existence itself, but evidence is clear and unmistakable in global ramifications and local impact in polar regions.
"...Climate change [is] the 'greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people'", skeptics like Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma like to say. Climate change is change in climate patterns due to an increase in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases produced by certain human activity. According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, data taken by satellite has shown that the Arctic cover has decreased by 30% over the past 30 years, and this change, which also include change in sea ice and permafrost, in artic weather and climate is caused by humans. Although numerous scientists have confirmed the legitimacy of climate change, there are different views on whether climate change is real or not. Government officials like Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma or Senator Marco Rubio of Florida have explicitly stated that they do not believe climate change is neither real, nor caused by humans (Tom McCarthy, 2014). On the other hand, mainstream media and other media outlets, such as The Independent and The Economist, have reported their findings of climate change and its legitimacy. The Independent (Conner, S. 2011) reported that records of these changes were taken by military submarines, land measurements, and satellite data to prove ice in polar regions are melting faster and faster. Satellites have tracked sea ice since the 1970s and by nuclear submarines since the Cold War, according to Peter Wadhams of Cambridge University and it was predicted that by September 2015, there would be no more sea ice. (Conner, S. 2011). Luckily, sea ice has not

The video presents a gay couple starting a family and living life like any other person would. As a response to the video, a reporter said "I think any child would be lucky to have two dads like you" (Wong). Honey maid has made it clear to the world that they support the LGBTQ+ community. What Would A Satisfactory Moral Theory Be Like?
In James Rachels' book, The Elements of Moral Philosophy, he expresses ideas within the concluding chapter, "What Would a Satisfactory Moral Theory be like?" that lay an silhouette of every moral approach we have discussed so far and compounding it into a final discussion with a couple of final contentions towards a comprehensive understanding of morality and the approaches we can make as moral guides to make decisions that are virtuous for each class without exception. Rachels' gives thoughtful perspective on all subjects that we have learned about and makes final accumulations for the way we can decide to use these for our own benefit. While then expressing the virtues we must value for ourselves to have a best plan, and the ways our choices can help others in a positive aspect....show more content...
Our natural state within the universe when compared to the scale of history is extremely insignificant, and arises the fluid thought that our complete conscious existence relies on evolutionary accidents. It becomes clear with time that our knowledge of ourselves as a population of species compared to any other mammals is quite significant but yet completely detrimental to the health of our universe. We must be able as humans to grasp these concepts and particularly build a world better suited for future figures to give philosophical thoughts and aspects as the human race continues to develop. There is a shortcoming with our behavior, as Rachels describes, that if an action would help satisfy our own self–interest, than we see the most reason to perform such tasks. This leaves us prone to being selfish and to sometimes hold interests out of other people's version of acceptable behavior. Rachels signifies that all people do not have to follow any one true combination of morals, ethics, or

Argumentative Essay On Climate Change
As of recent decades, the topic of climate change has become a controversial debate between those who support the claim and those who believe it does not exist. Climate change, simply put, is the change in distribution of weather patterns that extend over a longer period of time. One of the major debates is whether global climate change is due primarily to anthropogenic, also known as man–made, causes or it is all part of a natural cycle. This argument introduces bigger topics that are related to the issue, such as the impact of carbon footprints, the current position towards the Paris Agreement, and the future health/economic risks that may arise in southern New Jersey, specifically. Both sides of the arguments feel as though they have justifiable arguments and the debate has made little progress. With the recent shift in the White House, funding for climate change research in the United States is currently being threatened, which in turn, is causing a national uproar among climate change activists. My role for the in–class discussion is to portray the NJ Climate Adaptation Alliance, an organization affiliated with Rutgers University to find ways to combat climate change in a sustainable manner. The primary focus of the organization is on climate change preparedness in public health, watersheds, rivers and coastal communities, built infrastructure, agriculture, and natural resources within New Jersey (Rutgers, 2017). Due to their database across the state of New Jersey,

Argumentative Essay On Discrimination
In the context of this argument, discrimination is the unjust treatment of groups of people, specific in this argument, women and racial minorities. Discrimination often involves unfair denial of opportunity to a woman or minority from a source of power. While discrimination is wrong, it is not all the same and it does not all come from the same source. Discrimination can stem from things like emotions, specifically fear or hatred, rules and laws, and society. To compare discrimination, you must be comparing situations with the same cause. Comparing discrimination with different causes does not work since they are not coming from the same foundation. Comparison needs the same foundation so similarity in the situations are taken into consideration. The cause is a big enough difference that makes the cases incomparable. In discrimination cases, a situation that began from fear will be vastly different than a situation that began from a law. The reasoning for discrimination and how to handle the problem will be different. These situations have to be dealt with separately and they should not be compared as they are not similar enough for comparison.
Universities give women and minorities special consideration because, throughout history, women and racial minorities have been given the disadvantage of applying to and getting into colleges. The unequal consideration of women and minorities for spots going to or teaching at colleges have led to the creation of higher learning

To stand or not stand? That is the question regarding the recent controversy with the National Football League. Many football players have protested against America's oppression of African Americans and other minorities by linking arms with their peers, and kneeling while the National Anthem , The Star Spangled Banner, played in the arenas. Those who oppose this form of protest, feel as though by not standing with hand over heart, the players are disrespecting our country and the veterans who fought for it. They have also called those who are protesting "bad Americans". Both sides have their own ideas of "America the Beautiful", and has their own idea of what patriotism is. What exactly is patriotism? What does a "bad American" look like? Maybe with a little more understanding of what patriotism is, we can begin to unravel the meaning of a "good American". Only by doing so can we start to weigh in on what is right and wrong within this controversy This type of protest has been going on years before Colin Kaepernick decided to sit down during the national anthem in August 2016. The African American gold and bronze medalists of the 1968 Olympics, raised their fists during the national anthem becuase they wanted to stand up against the oppression of minorities and human rights. CLIMATE CHANGE
Global Warming, much of what does or does not happen forty years from now rests on our actions or inactions taken between now and then. The crucial question is whether we should pour all our resources into mitigation – reducing our carbon emissions. According to scientists who study the climate there are other environmental problems; "we now face a global crises in land use and agriculture that could undermine the health, security, and sustainability of our civilization". Rather than worry too much about emissions, we should accept the world is going to get warmer anyway and adapt to global warming by building better flood defenses and developing drought resistant crops.
We cannot dispute that automobiles, factories, and power plants, displace an unprecedented twenty tons of carbon monoxide– per person – per year. There needs to be a reduction in emissions, yet we cannot focus on this aspect of global warming alone. There are many indicators that climatic change is influencing the frequency and intensity of natural catastrophes. If scientific global climate models are accurate, the present problems will be magnified in the near future.
Already scientists have observed that more than 75% of the recent economic losses are caused by natural hazards which can be attributed to wind storms, floods, droughts and other climate related hazards. In the year 2008, the U.S. state of Iowa was on the front pages of newspapers all around the world.

Who am I? What is it that defines that personality? Anzaldua argues in her essay that the language is what defines one's identity. Language is indeed an important component of culture, and culture is known to be a crucial definer of identity. Tan clearly mentions in her story that she had to speak two different languages to her Asian mom who had her own made up English. Tan relates to both her Asian descent and American belongings by using her mom's made up English to speak with her mom, and uses the proper English to give lectures and speak to most Americans. On the same grounds, Anzaldua learned through her life experiences to frequently use multiple types of English, and many other Dialects of proper Spanish and Mexican Spanish. She uses each language to communicate, connect and affiliate to specific people according to their background. This proves that the assumption that language defines culture and identity fails. What happens to the people who speak many languages, do they not get the benefit and pride of belonging to a certain community? Rather the contrary, they belong to multiple communities and they choose which group they want to communicate with and with which language. People have the ability to switch from a language to another to be part of a group and this supports the idea that identity defines and shapes language, and not the opposite.
Language is used as a way to identify with people, but it is also used to distinguish between them. People use language to differentiate between people and associate them to a specific culture and community according to the language they speak. America is known for having a diverse

Oftentimes, the definition of social justice can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. The true definition of social justice is often structured by governmental implications but is the fair and proper administration of laws to each individual conforming to the natural law. Equality is supposed to be equally distributed amongst individuals nationally, but can sometimes be taken advantage of and be taken away from people who deserve it the most. Generally, those who view social justices as a right, also value people above profits. Socialjustice describes the concept of society where justice is achieved in every aspect of society, rather than just the administration of the law. Overall, social justice gives society the ability to have a voice of laws that may be broken but give a sufficient argument to be heard by the supreme court. Equality is a major issue that has been demanded by society for centuries. In Victor Fleming's film The Way of All Flesh, released in October of 1927, the story describes the life of Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman from Baltimore who eventually died of cervicalcancer in 1951. Before she died some of her cancerous cells were taken without her permission and the cells have been reproducing in laboratories around the world ever since. The question is, does taking the cells of a woman who was eventually going to die break the laws of social justice, or was this a necessary action to take in hopes of eventually finding a

Comfortably In First Place What is it about cars that makes them so appealing? Is it the way the metal covers the body, evoking different line structures? Is it the pure speed they are possible of? Whatever it may be, Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios set out over ten years ago to find the answers. Unfortunately for them, the genre (Racing Simulation) was already crowned king by Sony's Gran Turismo franchise. Gran Turismo had created a legacy, a fan base that has lasted several generations of consoles and several iterations of the franchise namesake. Now, with their sixth iteration in the franchise, Turn 10's Forza Motorsport 6 is truly something incredible and worthy of crowning itself king of the genre. Each car, regardless of branding, drives remarkably different than the next. In a next–generation console experience, you would expect a Ford to drive much different than a BMW or a Ferrari, but what's even more impressive is the fact they all remain fun, in their own way. A Ford Fiesta ST powering through Daytona 500 is a quirky experience. It's high revving motor meets the challenge alongside other roiled out hot hatchbacks. The speed feels great and the handling feels nimble, that is until you hop into a pricier car. One would expect a M4 to drive much differently than a Fiesta ST, and believe me it does. Right off the bat, the engine fires off differently, it's metallic paint glistening in the sun, gliding effortlessly through corners before blistering away in straight–aways.
