10 Things to Know About Applying For Scholarships 1. Seniors! Apply for the Bright Futures Scholarship beginning December 1, 2015 at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org, click on State Grants, Scholarships and Applications, then under Applicant quick links, choose Student Application. 2. Check for available scholarships in your County at your districts website click on Students, then click on College Financial Aid- Scholarships, then click on 2015-2016 scholarships. 3. Check your schools Counseling Department’s webpage or visit their offices. 4. Check with the colleges you are applying to for internal scholarships. Many of these require a separate application from your admissions application. Also, check with the companies where your parent’s are employed. Many offer scholarships for students. 5. Attend one of the County Schools Financial Aid Workshops see the districts website for dates 6. Find scholarships beyond Your County at websites such as www.fastweb. com, www.facts.org , www.finaid.org and more. 7. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens January 1. Go to the website: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Before completing your FAFSA, both you and your parents must request a pin number, which will be your electronic signature at www.pin.ed.gov. 8. Complete college applications before beginning the scholarship process. 9. Organize Scholarship applications by due date. 10. Order copies of your transcript at least a week before they need to be submitted with your scholarship applications. PLEASE NOTE! If you require a letter of recommendation from your counselor, please provide them with a resume of your activities while in high school. This information is needed in order for the counselor to write a substantive letter. Letters are written on a first come, first served basis, counselors require at least 5 to 10 working days to complete each letter.
