Viking View March 2014 Published Six Times/Yr 550 Dulles Ave Sugar Land, TX 77478 Issue #6

The arrival of March brings thoughts of Spring as the weather starts to warm, and we begin to see the end of the 2013-14 school year in sight. Term 3 which began on January 8, will end on March 21. I ask you to help us in encouraging our students to keep their academic focus this term in order to continue their academic progress. We will also begin our STAAR EOC tests at the end of March and Beginning of April in English I and English II. The remaining STAAR EOC tests in Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History will be given at the beginning of May. Students have been receiving quality instruction throughout the year; our staff and students have been working to prepare for the upcoming assessments. We are confident they will be successful. The Vikings have seen several accomplishments this semester as our Spring activities are in full swing. Our National Science Bowl team won the regional competition and will advance to Nationals in April to compete against the best in the nation. The Boys Basketball team had a great year finishing the regular season with a record of 23-10 and advancing to the state playoffs. Our swimmers had a strong performance at district with some advancing to Regionals. The Dulles Dolls had an outstanding contest season. I had the pleasure to see these ladies perform; they are an amazing group. As the weather warms, I encourage you to come out to see our Soccer, Baseball, Softball, and Track teams perform. They are exciting teams to watch. Course selection for 2014-15 is now complete. Our administrators, counselors, and staff will soon begin building the master schedule for the upcoming year. I have started meeting with students monthly this semester to receive their feedback to help continue the Tradition of Excellence we have here at Dulles. We have an amazing student body that has a tremendous amount of pride in their school which has been reflected in those meetings. It has been an outstanding year at Dulles High School, and we are looking forward to more great accomplishments as we move to the end of the year. Once again, please continue to encourage your child to stay focused academically and to do their best on the upcoming EOC tests. I hope you have a great Spring. Go Big Red! Ronnie Edwards
