Dear LHS Parents, Guardians, and Students, As you read this year’s final issue of The Heat, the staff and students of LHS feel like we are in a jet flying toward EOC’s, final exams, graduation, and summer vacation. The LHS class of 2021 excitedly looks forward to their next step in life, our juniors impatiently wait to become the next LHS Senior Class of 2022, and there is a group of 8th graders, about a mile from here, that reluctantly anticipate making the move to LHS. We have had a great year this year, which has been marked with many successes, both academically and in extracurricular activities. LHS congratulates our 2021 STAR Student Anderson Holcomb. The STAR student each year is the graduating senior who achieves the highest score on the SAT in his/her graduating class. Anderson’s composite SAT score this year is an incredible 1570, and he has selected his Advanced Placement Language and Composition teacher Ms. Tonya Pohlel as his STAR teacher. This is a great accomplishment for both Anderson and Ms. Pohlel. To the parents of our LHS seniors, I wish a great last month of school for you and your students. The Loganville Varsity Competition Cheerleading season began in late July with tryouts and concluded on February 16, 2021. The COVID SEASON. CLEAR TO CHEER….. WHAT A RIDE!!! And a STORY that will live on….. This group of young athletes will go down in the books as an unrivaled team with perseverance, admirable work ethics, and determination. Through each obstacle, the team maintained focus and determination. The LHS PTSO held the 17th Annual Miss LHS Pageant on March 6, 2021, with 58 contestants participating in the fundraiser this year. Congratulations to the 2021 Miss LHS Queen, Briley Newberry, and her court: Miss Junior Cadence Pirkle, Miss Sophomore Amber Peoples, and Miss Freshman Aliyah Ibouhouten. The Spirit of Miss LHS was awarded to Sydney Devereux. The Sponsorship Queen was awarded to Anna Rickett. The Sponsorship Princess awards went to Alaina Waddell, Keelin Klein, and Emily Davis. The Miss LHS Pageant is the PTSO's largest fundraiser each year with all of the proceeds supporting the LHS senior scholarship fund. This year, the PTSO raised over $17,000 for this fund! Thank you to all of our contestants and supporters for helping make this one of our most successful pageants!

2021-2022 SCHEDULES
Students will receive preliminary 2021-22 class schedules on May 20. Students have until June 1 to request any schedule changes. June 1 is also the deadline to request to drop AP classes. Changes must be requested through a Google Form that will be emailed to students. Schedules may also change due to master schedule changes, class sizes, or other factors. Counselors will do their best to accommodate schedule change requests, but please understand that not all requests can be accommodated. Students may check their schedules in Infinite Campus after submitting a schedule change request form to see if their schedule change was able to be accommodated. Students are not allowed to request schedule changes to change teachers or class periods. If students are scheduled for classes they already have credit for, missing classes they need to graduate, or need to change the difficulty level of a class, please have them request a schedule change. No schedule change requests will be allowed after school has started unless they are necessary for graduation purposes.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
The State of Georgia has adopted new Dual Enrollment eligibility and participation guidelines. If students are interested in participating in dual enrollment courses, please find more information at www.GAFutures.org or on the LHS Counselor page or have them speak to their counselor. Dual enrollment is open to 11th and 12th-grade students who meet college acceptance criteria. •
Students planning to participate in dual enrollment class for Fall 2021 must be registered for their college classes and provide their college schedule to their counselor before to the first day of school.

CTI students at Loganville High School recently finished a community service project that involved raising funds for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. A contest was held among 3rd period classes to see which class could raise the most money to benefit this very worthy cause. The contest ran from March 8-19. Thanks to the generous donations of LHS students, parents, faculty and staff we were able to raise $4,611.74 for Children’s Healthcare. The top three classes were: Mr. Wisdom

YEARBOOKS CLASS OF 2022 SENIOR PORTRAITS
Students should go online at https://cady.com/2022 and complete the contact form to schedule their senior portraits. Cady Studios will be sending out a video in the coming weeks that will advise students on the various packages they offer and when and where to schedule appointments online beginning in May. This information will also be posted to the school’s website under the Home, Senior Information, and Yearbook pages. Senior portraits will take place at Loganville High School. This photography company also offers an incredible variety of “in-studio” options at their four studio locations (Dacula, Johns Creek, Acworth, and the Battery). The Basic Package offered by Cady Studios will include a formal (drape/tux), casual, and cap and gown photo. The formal and casual photos will be featured in the yearbook. Your student MUST have their pictures taken by Cady Studios before November 15 to be included in the 2021-2022 yearbook. NO EXCEPTIONS! This is an inspirational service for seniors -- participation is not required. Seniors attending baccalaureate should report to First Baptist Church of Loganville at 5:40 pm on Sunday, May 23, dressed in appropriate attire (see “Dress for Graduates”) and cap and gown. You can submit a baby picture and a senior picture to msorrow@wcclc.org by May 14 to be included in the slideshow at baccalaureate.
SENIOR BOARDS
IMPORTANT UPCOMING SENIOR DATES
Each year we distribute senior boards for parents (or friends or family members) to decorate for their senior. Boards are decorated with pictures and memories and anything to celebrate the senior. Parents come to hang the board on Friday, May 14, from 6:00-7:00 pm in the cafeteria area. This year we ask that you hang the boards on COMMAND hooks, either by punching holes at the top of the board to hang on the hooks OR by punching holes for a ribbon to hang on a hook or COMMAND strips. We ask that no tape be used this year, so PLEASE bring your own Command hooks/strips to display the boards. Staff will be available to assist you with where to place the boards. Do not use boards larger than what we distribute to seniors. The boards were distributed at lunch April 13-14.
SENIOR LETTERS
We ask that family and friends write encouraging letters to the seniors, and we compile those letters in an envelope to distribute to each senior the day of the picnic. Please follow these specifications when writing these letters: 1. Letters should not be larger than an 8 ½ X 11. 2. Letters should contain first and last name of the recipient. 3. Letters should not contain any money or gifts. 4. Letters should be dropped off in the box in the front office labeled “Senior Letters” no later than Friday, May 14.

Seniors will turn in their Chromebook chargers (or $25.00). • Underclassmen will keep their chargers over the summer. Students should make sure they store them in a safe place, so they will have them to charge their Chromebooks next school year. • Important: Please charge the Chromebooks to 100%. Chromebooks must be turned on to check for damage. Chromebooks that are not fully charged may stop working over the summer. Students will be responsible for battery replacement ($35.00). • Students will not be able to purchase their Chromebooks. • Underclassmen will get their same Chromebooks back next school year. • If underclassmen know they are withdrawing over the summer, they will be responsible for paying for the damaged/lost Chromebooks when they withdraw. The LHS Band program has had an extremely busy school year. During band camp, we were able to operate at half capacity throughout July until August. Our fall 2020 half-time show was entitled "Top Secret" which highlighted music from the James Bond films, The Incredibles, The Pink Panther, Soul Bossa Nova and Secret Agent Man. The band competed at the Central Carroll High School "Super Bowl of Sound" on November 2 and received overall superior ratings in band, percussion, colorguard, and drum majors. Along with these ratings, the Marching Red Devils placed in 2nd place in percussion and 3rd place in all other categories. We have been so fortunate to participate in music-making during the instructional day. The concert band had a fall concert on November 7 in the LHS gym. The concert band also performed for the Walnut Grove HS band members at a clinic performance of our Large Group Performance Evaluations (LGPE) at Walnut Grove High School on March 11. The band is currently working on music for a fun and music-filled spring concert on Tuesday, May 4, at 6:30 pm. in the LHS Gym. This event will feature our concert band, after-school jazz band, and many small ensembles working on music selections. A big congratulations to three of our students who recently auditioned for the GMEA All-State Band and District Honor Band. Nathan Dermer scored the highest trumpet score in our district (8-10 surrounding counties) and is first chair of the 11th/12th grade band. Samuel Warren earned a spot in the combined 9-12 grade band. Evelyn Rose is currently an alternate for the District Honor Band. We would love to invite you to our spring concert which will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at the LHS Gym starting at 6:00 pm. We will be featuring some pop and movie music, some serious band literature, and a medley of music from the hit-film saga "Star Wars" to celebrate May the Fourth. We look forward to another great year of music-making and hard work and cannot wait to share our 2021 half-time show with our awesome and supportive community!
