VISION:

To be a producer of students that succesfully compete on a national level

MISSION:

To develop the support of our families and community as we engage our students Visit Oak Ridge High School’s website at: www.orhs.ocps.net

I hope this newsletter finds our community geared up and ready for the testing season that is upon us. The second semester has gotten off to a confident start by receiving news from the Department of Education that our school has received a “C” grade for its second consecutive year. This is the result of hard work by our students, teachers, staff, and parents working together to reach this goal and beyond. The school community is “One Team With One Goal” continuing to- Pioneer Our Way To An “A”. It is hard to believe the end of our school year is only a couple of months away. The testing season for FCAT, ACT, SAT, and End of Course Exams (EOC) has begun. There is a detailed testing calendar enclosed for your review. Please keep in mind that a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast are beneficial to scoring well. We are confident that you will support your student in preparing them for optimum testing conditions. Our goal is for each student to reach his/her full potential, and with everyone working together, that goal will be reached. Requiring good student attendance, insisting on punctuality, supporting teacher expectations, and monitoring class work are significant ways parents help to ensure student success. Please take time out of your busy schedules to read the newsletter and take note of the information specific to your student(s). We are always happy to assist with your questions and concerns. Please feel free to contact the appropriate person that manages your student’s grade level. I look forward to the many exciting upcoming festivities- prom, grad bash, senior breakfast, graduation and several more. I hope to see many of you as we celebrate the accomplishments of the students of Oak Ridge High School. Proud to be a Pioneer,

Dr. Leigh Ann Bradshaw Principal

The Partners in Education program links businesses and organizations with schools to share resources, both in people and materials. Each flourishes from the support and prosperity of the other. Schools must prepare today’s students for their entry into a diverse, competitive work force. When businesses take part in the education of these young people, they help strengthen the work force of the future. The Partners in Education program is vital in helping the community and the school system work and grow together. The general requirements are simple: • The partnership needs to provide a benefit to the school, and be mutually beneficial to the business through cause-related marketing not advertising. • We define a partnership as at least three activities throughout the school year, which we feel is the minimum for a partner relationship. • The partnership activities must fulfill a need of a school, as determined by the principal and the school’s Partners in Education Coordinator. For more information, or to become a Partner, please contact: Dr. Janet Rasmussen or Laurene Householder @ (407) 852-3200

“Algebra class will be important to you later in life because there’s going to be a test six weeks from now.”

ORHS Attendance Department

Regular school attendance is critical for academic success and it is a baseline factor in determining student success. Our goal is to ensure that every student attends school regularly and on time. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life. Please remember: Not all absences are excused, merely providing a note is not enough to excuse an absence. The reason provided on the note must be considered before granting the excused absence. **Truancy is not just about missing school. It often involves other obstacles that are preventing a student from attending school. We are here to provide assistance and connect our students and their families with school and community resources that can help them to get back on track with their difficulties. Please call Mrs. Bland @ ext. 6102233 for general info about attendance (codes, excuses, field trips, etc.) or Mrs. Lopez @ 6102232 if you have any questions about truancy procedures. School Volunteers are individuals who perform assigned duties that support Orange County Public Schools students and staff without the expectation of compensation. Duties assigned to school volunteers shall be consistent with Florida statutes and State Board of Education rules. It is the policy of the School Board of Orange County that there will be no discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, marital status, sex, religion, age or disability. This program is a component of the ADDitions program. School volunteers work at the school of their choice and participate in activities that match their interests, such as: • Assisting teachers in the classroom • Designing bulletin boards • Working with students • Serving as mentors or tutors • Helping in the art classes, the media center or the office • Serving as chaperones on field trips, etc. • Please go online to www.ocps.net to fill out an application and become a volunteer today.
