Olympia High School finished its best year yet. And the coming 2013-2014 school year is shaping up to be even better. This newsletter is the last of our print editions. Starting next year we will begin sending electronic newsletters every two weeks to the email address you have on file with Orange County Public Schools. I hope that this more timely communication will keep you better informed and connected to your school.

Your administrative and guidance teams have been working all summer to make sure your class schedule is ready to go. The dates for schedule pick-up are as follows: Seniors - August 6 from 8:00-9:30 am in the Gym Juniors and Sophomores - August 6 from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the Gym Freshman Orientation - August 7 at 9:00 am in the Auditorium Freshman Schedule Pickup - August 7 from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the Cafeteria

At those times, you will be able to pick up your schedule and parking hangers. Your locker will be assigned to you on the first day of school and books will be passed out during the first week. If you are not available for schedule pickup at those times, your schedule will be available at the front desk beginning on August 8. You may come in at any time from the 8th to the beginning of school to pick up your schedule. I hope you have been enjoying your summer and we all look forward to your return on August 19. School Advisory Council (SAC)

Olympia’s School Advisory Council (SAC) invites you to join us for our first meeting of the 2013-2014 School Year What is the SAC? It’s like being on the “Board of Directors” for the school Do you wish you had some way to really know what is going on at Olympia, had a way to meet with and ask questions of our new principal, Guy Swenson on a monthly basis, could see a line item copy of Olympia’s operating budget and actually had a vote on how some money is spent to improve your student’s education and experiences in high school? Then you really want to be part of SAC, Olympia’s School Advisory Council, and we’d love to have you! We meet the first Thursday of every month from 6-7 PM in the school library Our first meeting will be Thursday, September 5th – we hope to see you there!

Welcome new and returning volunteers to the 2013-2014 school year at Olympia! Please plan to attend one of the meetings below if you are interested in getting involved. Each meeting is at Olympia and lasts about an hour. Please check in to the front office for meeting location as you arrive. Swimming and Diving

Welcome to everyone interested in joining the OLYMPIA HIGH SCHOOL Swimming & Diving Team. The Head Coach is Tom Nielsen, who competed in high school and college swimming / water polo in California. He began his coaching in Reseda, California. After two years at Reseda High School, Coach was accepted into the Navy and spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy with Underwater Demolition Team Twelve and SEAL Teams. He has coached swimming and water polo in Orange County High Schools for 14 years. He has been fortunate to have had 39 Academic All-Americans, 6 All-American Swimmers, and 7 All-American Water Polo players on his high school teams. The coaching staff would like to welcome all returning and new parents and family members to our team, and the team’s booster club. The only requirement is to come out to our meets, help perform timing at our home meets and swim meets we host. Team polo shirts are available for purchase.

General Information: ·· Practice starts August 5th, 3 – 5pm @ The YMCA Aquatic Center, on International Drive. The team practices Monday thru Friday 3-5pm and Saturdays 10am-12pm. ·· Tryout will be August 17th, 10am-12pm @ The YMCA Aquatic Center, on International Drive. ·· Practice uniform for boys is any type swimsuit (no cut off shorts or jeans). Goggles are optional, but helpful. ·· Swim Meet uniform will be the team swimsuit picked by coaching staff and captains (Jammer or Brief style). If hair is long, swim cap is provided. Goggles are optional. ·· Practice uniform for girls is a one-piece swimsuit. Swim cap provided, goggles optional. ·· Swim Meet uniform will be the team suit picked by coaching staff and captains, along with swim cap. Goggles are optional. ·· Team tee shirt, sweatshirt, and cap are included in the Team fee ($225.00). ·· Goggles are at swimmer’s expense. ·· Fund raising goal is $3000.00 this year; to cover Invitational and Championship swim meets, pool rental, and training equipment.
