Surviving Testing Stress

Surviving Testing Stress Testing pressure and anxiety can feel overwhelming as we think ahead to our exams. Here are some tips to keep you and your family sane during the upcoming testing schedule: • Make sure you are eating and sleeping well. Our ability to think, remember, and focus all depend on how well we’re taking care of ourselves and our bodies. • Take time out for fun! Don’t forget to build restful relaxation into your schedule as you’re finding time to study and prepare. If you don’t take breaks, chances are your brain will force you to anyway - and your studying and testing times will be less productive. • Practice calming techniques. Trying to control your breathing by always filling your lungs all the way up and slowly letting out the air can help you to train your mind and body to be more relaxed. Practicing when you’re not stressed also is important – it’s more helpful with frequent use. • Exercise regularly! As well as keeping your body healthy, exercising actually gives you energy and can help you unwind. • Prioritize your stressors. Try to figure out if there are some things that are not in your control and let them go if you can’t change them. Focus your time and attention on the things you do have control over – like how much effort you put into your studies or that upcoming project. • Check your feelings. Whether you feel nervous or unconcerned, it’s helpful to identify how you’re feeling about each test or class requirement. Talk to a friend or adult that you trust about how you’re feeling if you’re struggling. Always seek support in the people that love you and don’t forget to take care of yourself. CHILL is a confidential school-based counseling program for students who are looking for help with emotional and mental health issues. We also work with the families of students to promote healing within the whole family system. There is no cost for this service to students or their families. If you have any questions or interest in the program, please call the school. https://www.dropbox.com/ow/msft/edit/home/Natalie%20M./March%20Content/Surviving%20Testing %20Stress.docx?hpt_click_ts=1456948834685
