Letter from the Principal Parents, Students, and Community Members, The end of the year is quickly approaching! The first three 9 weeks have come and gone, and we are right in the middle of the testing season. We have had so many great things happen this year from Brave Nation. We have successfully fundraised to send a group of students to Europe, have a Gates Millennium scholarship finalist, officially moved our Athletic Programs to Under Armour through BSN Sports, achieved the highest school grade gains in the district, developed a partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital to provide internships for our students, made it to the State Cheerleading Competition, won a State Wrestling Championship, and so much more! WOW, what a year so far. I look forward to finishing out the year just as strong. I continue to encourage community members, parents, Alumni, and business partners to give time and resources to assist Terry Parker High School in helping our students move closer to making their dreams a reality. If you are fortunate enough to support TPHS financially you can make a donation in any amount to TPHS and it is a tax deductible donation. These funds will go directly back to supporting our students with additional tutoring, technology, supplies, and even food for those less fortunate. There is no better way to support our community other than through our youth. Go Braves! Scott Schneider Principal Terry Parker High School schneiders@duvalschools.org

Brave Nation Travels to

CIS

FSU for Physics Experience

The Communities In Schools program at Terry Parker provides support and resources to about 100 students involved in the program. While Site Coordinators work individually with select students from the school body, hundreds of others receive services from whole school initiatives like field trips, financial support for books and other classroom needs and parent engagement activities. Communities In Schools programs at Parker include Teen Trendsetters, where high school students go to Parkwood Heights Elementary School once each week to read with and mentor a second grade class. This is a great experience for both the Parkwood Heights students as well as the high school mentors. Many of the CIS students also have adult mentors who meet with them at Parker on a regular basis. These relationships are one more way to helps students to stay in school, graduate and become productive adults. Another CIS program is our Summer STEM Academy. Offered for a two week period during the summer, Summer STEM engages rising g’h and 10’h graders in science, math and technology through a variety of classes and activities. More information about this summer’s program will be coming soon.

Sixty-three students recently traveled to Florida State University to tour the physics department’s linear accelerator and planetarium as well as the Materials Institute and the High Field Magnetic National Laboratory. The two buses used for transportation were funded by the college’s Vice President of Research, Dr. Kirby Kemper. The trip was hosted by Dr. Winston Roberts, physics professor, and welcomed to campus by Dr. Susan Blessing, physics professor and administrator for the college’s WIMSE program (Women in Math, Science and Engineering). The students had a great time seeing Physics in action!

Hats off to Ms. Grubbs for taking this huge adventure on and making it a reality! Thank you to all that gave financially and through their time. A special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Petway for their gracious financial donation.
