FALL 2024

Torben Caravajal Everaert

Charleston Exhibition Explores the Artist’s Creative Journey

I am a visual artist with Brazilian roots and Dutch origins. My journey into the world of art began at a young age, fueled by my curiosity, innate desire to create and an entrepreneurial and philosophical spirit that would eventually shape my artistic direction. As I navigate through the various stages of my career, my passion for drawing has remained constant, often finding myself doodling in unexpected moments.

While studying business administration, I realized that my true calling lay outside the corporate world. I embarked on a decade-long journey as an illustrator and visual artist, working with companies and campaigns while honing my craft. However, I soon felt the need to break free from assignment-based work and explore my personal creative side. Around 2020, I made the bold decision to focus on my own artistic vision, embracing the freedom of unbridled self-expression.

My artistic inspiration comes from a wide range of sources – from the intricate details of M.C. Escher’s works to the fantastical scenes in Jheronimus Bosch’ and Salvador Dali’s paintings. Growing up, I was captivated by these artists’ ability to create entire worlds within their art. My influences also extend to popular culture, and things from my childhood, like the novel shapes and color combinations of graffiti in

Rio de Janeiro’s streets, Dragonball Z, Superhero comics, Where’s Waldo, and not to forget, the colorful worlds and secret passageways of Super Mario games, serving as muses for my artistic development.

As I evolved as an artist, I began to merge these diverse influences into a unique style, blending the abstract with figurative, that defies categorization. I usually start with making an abstract background and follow with looking at what shapes I can tease out of the backdrop. I don’t start with a plan, but like a psychedelic revelation, things slowly take shape, sometimes more sometimes less defined. I invite viewers to take a closer look at my work, where hidden details and secrets await discovery. My art is not just about aesthetics; it’s about the journey of self-discovery and the exploration of one’s own creative potential.

My upcoming exhibition in Charleston, South Carolina,

marks an exciting new chapter in my artistic journey. The event will take place on October 4th and 5th, offering art enthusiasts a chance to witness my innovative approach to visual storytelling firsthand. I’m excited to immerse them in a world of color, texture, and imagination and to see how others connect with my work on a deeper level. I believe that creativity knows no limits, and that by embracing one’s unique perspective, anything can be achieved.

In conclusion, my story is a testament to the power of following one’s passion and the importance of staying true to oneself. I’ll continue to explore new creative avenues and hope to inspire audiences around the world. My exhibition in Charleston promises to be a memorable event. I will be revealing my latest work there, so mark your calendars for October 4th and 5th – and don’t miss out on the chance to experience it for yourself!

The work of Chelsea Sawyer Painting Her Appreciation for

As a young female artist born and raised in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina, my work is deeply rooted in the rich tapestry of the Lowcountry. The vibrant hues of the marshes, the intricate patterns of Spanish moss draping from ancient oak trees, and the serene beauty of the waterways are not just my subjects; they are my inspiration and my home.

Growing up in this coastal paradise, I developed a profound appreciation for the native wildlife that inhabits this unique ecosystem. From the elegant herons that grace the shores to the playful dolphins that dance in the waves, each creature tells a story, and I strive to capture that narrative in my paintings. My brush becomes a vessel through which I express the beauty and fragility of this environment, inviting view-

ers to connect with the natural world that surrounds us.

In each piece, I blend traditional techniques with contemporary elements, reflecting both the historical richness of Charleston and my own evolving artistic voice. My palette is inspired by the ever-changing colors of the Lowcountry landscape, capturing the ethereal glow of sun-

rise over the marshes or the deep blues of the ocean at dusk.

I invite you to join me on this journey through my art, to experience the charm of the Lowcountry, and to appreciate the beauty of its wildlife. Together, let us celebrate this extraordinary place that shapes who I am as an artist and as a steward of the natural world.

Cameron Lewis Always Elevating

My name is Cameron Lewis, but many refer to me as CAL. I’m the owner of Cal Art and the creator of The New Vibe Artshow. I am currently based in Charleston South Carolina and currently striving to blaze a path in the art community. Truth be told, there are a lot of artists in the world, but I think what differentiates a true artist from one who simply makes art is passion. The inspiration for my work comes from the need to always elevate, within every peace really trying to create, innovate, and to leave a lasting impression. My work is often a reminder of who I am, a reminder of what I’ve been through, my growth, and often a portrayal of my interests. As a young artist I want to be an example for others, to show them, no matter your background, no matter your financial status, no matter where you’ve come from, that when you’re passionate about something anything is possible. Everyday is a day to create, an opportunity to show up for yourself and for others, that’s why I grind, to show you can turn nothing into something you just have heart.

That’s what moved me to create the new vibe. It’s not just an art show, It’s a cultured art experience. I know firsthand the difficulties of being an emerging artist, the difficulty of trying to find representation and the hardships of rejection. Certain art markets can be closed off and not as inclusive as they could be. So with that fire lit under me I began planning a show, to introduce my art to the Charleston area. More than that, The New Vibe has become a bridge for upcoming artists to display their work, to be seen, to have an opportunity to shine. My goal is to bring something new to Charleston, at The New Vibe you will find art you can find nowhere else in the city. Passion will forever be a motivating factor in my life, passion for my art, and passion for others, that is what drives me.

Aleks Provocateur Evoking Powerful Responses

Aleks Provocateur is an internationally recognized multi-media performance artist, painter, and creative consultant whose dynamic body of work defies conventional boundaries and expectations. With over 15 years of experience, Aleks' art is a vivid exploration of passion, sensuality, and the human experience.

Born in Russia and educated with a B.F.A. in Animation from California College of the Arts, Aleks has developed a powerful visual language that transcends cultural and artistic norms. Her art is characterized by a bold fusion of beauty, intellectual provocation, and vibrant energy, offering viewers an immersive experience that challenges perceptions and ignites the imagination.

Aleks' journey as an artist began as a form of self-ex-

pression while navigating the complexities of language and identity in a new country. This formative experience has deeply influenced her work, infusing it with a raw authenticity and emotional depth that resonates across cultures. Her artistic practice is rooted in the belief that art should be a fearless exploration of the human condition, free from the constraints of societal censorship.

Whether through her provocative erotic pieces or her serene nature-inspired paintings, Aleks seeks to evoke a powerful emotional response, inviting viewers to confront their own beliefs and desires.

In recent years, Aleks has expanded her creative focus to embrace the natural world, particularly the ever-changing beauty of clouds and landscapes. This

shift reflects her desire to capture the organic, imperfect qualities of nature, using them as a metaphor for the complexities of human emotions and experiences.

Her nature-inspired works serve as a counterpoint to her more provocative art, offering a meditative exploration of serenity, transformation, and the passage of time. This duality in her work highlights Aleks' versatility as an artist, allowing her to connect with a diverse audience and explore a wide range of themes.

Fashion, for Aleks, is another dimension of her artistic expression, seamlessly blending with her visual art to create a holistic experience. She views fashion as an extension of identity and a powerful medium for storytelling. Through her work, Aleks often incorporates elements of fashion, using fabric, texture, and design to enhance the narrative of her pieces.

Her performances, whether live painting at exclusive events or creating multimedia installations, often include fashion as a key component, transforming the artist and her work into a living canvas. This integration of fashion into her art reflects Aleks' belief that every aspect of life can be a form of creative expression, blurring the lines between art, identity, and experience.

Aleks' live painting performances are a testament to her innovative approach to art-making. At these events, she becomes an integral part of the artistic process, interacting with the audience and drawing inspiration from the energy of the crowd, the music, and the overall atmosphere. The resulting works are not just paintings; they are a visual record of a shared moment in time, capturing the essence of the event and the emotions of those present. This way, Aleks creates a direct connection between the artist and the audience, turning the creative process into an evolving, collaborative experience.
