Who We Are ACAP Saint John is a community based, non-profit organisation that encourages local involvement from all sectors of the Saint John community.

ACAP Saint John was started in 1991 as one of thirteen environmental “hot spots” in Atlantic Canada. We are currently implementing recommendations from our Comprehensive Environmental Management Plan which was developed locally, through a broad based consensus. The two primary goals of

ACAP Saint John are:

1. To engage the multi-sectorial community of Greater Saint John in the collaborative management and restoration of our watersheds; and, 2. ACAP Saint John envisions a sustainable community that embraces the inter-dependence of the unique social, economic and environmental characteristics of the region’s watersheds.

ACAP Saint John can be found online at www.acapsj.org, on Facebook at facebook.com/acapsj and @ACAPSaintJohn on Twitter.

President’s Report From our founding, ACAP has grown and evolved into a true community leader with respect to environmental stewardship and sustainability. This past year saw a great change within our organisation and now is the time to capitalize. With every great change comes great opportunity. I would like to thank Tim Vickers for his tireless efforts over the past decade as ACAP’s Executive Director. Over his tenure, Tim helped to grow our presence and prominence within Saint John, New Brunswick and beyond. Moreover, he has served as a mentor to numerous summer students, including myself, who have passed through ACAP’s doors during this time and as such will have a long lasting impact on our community for years to come. I would also like to thank Graeme Stewart-Robertson for his ongoing contributions to ACAP and moreover, for confidently stepping into the role of Executive Director this past year. The learning curve has been steep but Graeme has risen to the challenge. Finally, I would like to thank the members of Board of Directors and the Executive for donating your invaluable time to ACAP. Your contributions are key to ensure ACAP’s continued longevity and growth. These past two years as President of ACAP Saint John have been exceptional. I look forward to continuing my involvement with this great organisation by transitioning to the Past President role. Craig Silliphant President

Executive Director’s Report This past year at ACAP Saint John could truly be defined as one of transition. We have seen as many things change as have stayed the same, and been afforded the opportunity to reinvent ourselves while retaining the core values that sustained us for over 20 years. As we transitioned from an era focused primarily on achieving Saint John Harbour Cleanup, to a new era where we are measuring recovery not ramifications, and opportunity not obsolescence, ACAP is now able to refocus on the sustainability of the Greater Saint John region, on issues of Climate Change and wellness, on restoring and conserving habitat, and on redefining how urban green space is preserved and enjoyed. We have also undergone the first transition of our Executive Director position in over a decade, and I wish to personally thank Tim Vickers for not only his amazing service to ACAP Saint John and our community at large, but also for his guidance from my time as an young undergraduate Summer student, on through to becoming Executive Director of this amazing organisation. What stands out as truly exciting in all of this transition, are the new horizons we are embarking upon this year. For the first time ever, we are able to hire students and researchers and regale them with grand tales of a time long ago when Saint John dumped untreated sewage into our harbour and our rivers, rather than briefing them on safety protocols as we prepared for that long, grim walk into a shadowy, pathogenic wasteland. These are the first of a new generation of researchers who will only know the contamination of Marsh Creek as numbers on a page or points on a graph, not as stains on their boots. Entering my first full year charged with the duties of Executive Director, I am thrilled to be leading ACAP toward new horizons, as we continue to uphold our excellent reputation in the community and as a voice of reason and hope where it is often needed the most. Graeme Stewart-Robertson, Executive Director
