Celebrate! Grafica

Page 1

The celebration of 30 years of activities at the Accademia Italiana offers an occasion to propose to the public works created by students at the Florence and Rome schools during the 2013/2014 academic year. For this reason we have prepared 4 different publications, followed by the professors and the directors of the various academic courses: Graphic design, Photography, Interior and Product Design, Fashion and Jewelry Design. It was a perfect time to take stock of the situation, to see where we stand, an important test for everyone, in particular for the students themselves. I wish them all a splendid professional future!

Accademia Italiana Firenze To celebrate the Accademia Italiana’s 30th anniversary, two different projects were elaborated. The 4th semester students were asked to do research for a free composition in honour of notable international graphic designers.

The 5th and 6th semester students were asked to elaborate a personal representation of a baseline graphic element, and to present this work as a communications project reproduced on a T shirt.

Arianna Taborda

tribute to

I chose him because his amazing ability to combine and overlay the primary colors used in the printing process represents the importance of understanding the technical background behind the creation of any great graphic piece.

guido Sarti

tribute to I celebrate James Victore because he teaches us that design is something strictly linked to the experiences that you live and the stories that you own. For this reason you have to rediscover the use of your hands and create directly with your body.

David Batacchi

Dilveen omar

tribute to Kate Moross is very talented and ambitious young designer. This artist is very inspirational to me as she is successfully accomplished at only 26 years old creating vibrant artwork for some of the world’s most successful publications, musicians and companies. Her bold, playful and three-sided typography creates very youthful and interesting designs.

Riccardo Giuntini

According to me, David Carson is one of the most revolutionary graphic designers of the last 20 years. From one side his style, his creativity, his peculiar use of the font and typography make him avant-garde, and on the other side he has got an important scheme of hierarchy which is very strict. His strong point lays in the mystery of words which look illegible but which are, at the end, completely readable. What really makes a difference between Carson and other graphic designers is the massive extent of his imagination. Rules? Almost none. The surprise and the hermeticism sacrifice, without any doubt, the directness of the subject, nonetheless the message is clear. Carson is an art founder who supports the communicative incomprehension as a kind of art and, even if somebody prefers to call it “communicative anarchyâ€?, he managed to create a unique way of communication. He plays with several families of font, with the bold type, with capital and lower case letters, he puts the words upside down and sometimes he pretends there is a mirror in between the words. Moreover he likes to use drawings, collages and photos as a background. It is thanks to his rock skills that give birth to extreme and strong artworks that he represents the father of the grunge style in the field of art.Â

Saya Nakanishi

tribute to I chose Paul Rand because I admire his style in Graphic Design. It is clean and forward working with uniqueness and creativity at the same time. His work is functional and has impacted the history of graphic design.

SARA omar

tribute to Milton Glaser is an inspiring name to any graphic designer, he doesn’t have a certain style that puts boundaries on him, he can do anything graphically by simply communicating a message through his designs, and that’s what makes him a great graphic designer. He has designed famous logos, posters, and illustrations that could fit every category using every style, depending on what he is designing. However, he is more drawn to the surreal psychedelic approach, which makes it even more interesting. Milton Glaser is an iconic figure when it comes to design and illustration, till today he designs and writes books about design.

Anna Averette

tribute to Paula Scher is a world famous graphic designer who was a major part of the “retro” movement of graphic design in the 1980’s. Paula redirected her training in illustration towards typography which lead her to a whole new career in the design industry. Paula’s ability to fearlessly try typography allowed her to fuse images and text to create a style of typography and maps that she would soon be known for. Paula is inspiring because her collection of maps using typography created a new style that had not been seen before. Today she is one of the most well-known graphic designers and the first women to become a principal at the New York office of Pentagram design consultancy.

Katherine Reed

tribute to Peter Miles is a New York based graphic designer and art director known for his signature artistic style — electrifying, yet restrained elegance and craftsmanship. Miles exists in a world where the subtleties of spacing, fonts, image saturation, size and cropping can mean all the difference between a powerful and mediocre design. Miles began his career in 1991 co-founding London based graphic design agency Fuel with classmates from the Royal College of Arts. The agency quickly gained renown for its minimalistic aesthetic and steadily began securing contracts with the likes of Diesel, Levi’s, MTV Europe and Adidas. After establishing an elite name in the graphic design world, Miles left Fuel in 2004 to pursue a solo career in New York. Here he earned a name for himself in the fashion world as well, becoming famous for the designs behind the logo, packaging and advertising campaigns for brands such as Marc Jacobs and Céline.

celebrate Colors I think colors are important and the main element in graphic design. Color explains everything, gives different feelings and meaning. In this project, beside using colors, I also use overlay effect. When you overlay a color, it creates depth and different colors. The overall shape is designed to resemble a water drop. To emphasize how simple are colors, but it took creativity to make it look special.

celebrate Hand-lettering The t-shirt design was inspired by handwriting and lettering from the past and the artworks of the Italian artist and designer Fornasetti who contributed to the revival of Renaissance artistic details. It was important to emphasise the beauty and the art of hand-lettering and calligraphy. Also, the importance of creating things by hand by using different mediums, not only the computer.

Bernardo Raspanti

celebrate Collage

Daria Popovskaia

celebrate Icon Icons are pictorial representations of objects, important not only for aesthetic reasons as part of the visual identity, but also for utilitarian reasons as shorthand for conveying meaning that people perceive almost instantaneously. Small simple pictures that represent an object or program are very useful in web sites and mobile applications.

Brachi Giulia

Jedchamnong Pakkarommanee

celebrate Layout The project represented the art of arranging in a decorative manner the various elements which are called “Composition”

Martina Severi Rosati

Stina Andersson

celebrate Illustration My theme for this project was illustration. I did two different images, and then combined them. I made a front page of the magazine ID, and I worked with ink and illustrator Adobe program. I wanted to do something different and combine handmade illustration and magazine cover layout.

Yining Chen

Zozzy Constantinidou

celebrate Pixel Art (8-bit) Pixel art or 8-bit style is a form of digital art where you can edit pixels in order to create an image or any other form of graphics. In this project I wanted to combine Graphic Design and Pixel art in order to create a playful image of what tools and elements Graphic Designers or Artists in general use in their everyday life. My inspiration as a Graphic Design student but also as a Gamer in life helped me put together this piece of design.
