Dear Community Friend,

Here at the Athens Community Council on Aging (ACCA), we could not be the essential resource for the aging community without the tremendous support of our community partners.

For more than 55 years, ACCA has planned, designed, and implemented innovative services which not only meet basic needs, such as food and transportation, but also services that offer opportunities for meaningful engagement.

Just this summer, ACCA launched the Dementia Resource Center (DRC). Partially funded by a 3-year federal grant from the Administration for Community Living, the DRC is dedicated to providing all persons living with dementia and their loved ones with the compassion, connection, and joy needed to continue living a happy and fulfilling life.

Your investment will make an impactful difference in the lives of seniors in our community. Here’s one example of how: There are currently more than 70 food insecure seniors on a waiting list due to insufficient funding. Joining us at the Partner-level sponsorship of $5,000.00 would provide a year of meals for TWO homebound seniors through our Meals on Wheels Program.

March for Meals is a month-long celebration of our Meals on Wheels program, raising awareness and funds to help provide more meals to older adults in our community. Throughout the celebration, we invite community champions like local legislators, community leaders, and fellow business operators to ride along with our volunteers and celebrate the impact and importance of nutrition access for all our community members.

Join us for a fun Thanksgiving tradition! The Give Thanks 8k helps raise awareness and support for the ACCA mission.

Community Impact

Wanderlust Has No Age Limit!

“Every time I saw her, she was either going somewhere or coming from somewhere with the Center for Active Living. And I’m like, ‘Wow, how did you do that?’,” said Olivia McKinney, now an avid CAL traveler.

CAL offers both overnight and day trips for any member to join – all of which are creatively planned and carefully curated by ACCA staff. These adventures have included visiting the Little White House and Warm Springs, strolling through the iconic Atlanta Botanical Gardens, learning history at various museums such as the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, watching iconic Broadway shows like Wicked and so much more.

“CAL has given me a community of friends. You make new friends pretty much every trip. Sometimes you don’t see people for a while or for just certain trips, but it has helped me feel really connected,” said Olivia.

ACCA at Work

With the generous investments and support from our corporate sponsors we have been able to provide better support to our older adults than ever before.

• Over 16,000 total clients served across 15 programs

• Over 57,000 meals served through Meals on Wheels to 236 clients

• Nearly 7,000 days of care provided in Adult Day Health to over 100 clients

• Over 15,000 trips to doctors visits, grocery stores, and the pharmacy provided through our transportation program to over 200 clients

Our work doesn’t stop there. As we continue to grow and serve more of our community members, we need YOUR help to accomplish our ambitious goals!

• Removing the 70 remaining clients off the Meals on Wheels waiting list, so they can receive proper nutrition for an independent, dignified, and enjoyable life

• Increase the reach of our senior hunger initiatives, including adding our new Brown Bag Program to serve an additional 200 people fighting food insecurity

• Launching the new Dementia Resource Center with an unmatched dedication to offering the resources needed to help all persons living with dementia and their loved ones feel supported, while also providing the compassion, connection, and joy needed to continue living a happy and fulfilling life. Most importantly, to provide hope when it matters most in this disease journey.
