REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR ALL CLASSES AND PROGRAMS SPECIAL NOTE: No classes during the week of the annual dance production, February 21-25, 2011 and Spring Break period, March 14-18, 2011 WHEN CAN I REGISTER? In-county residents can register on the kick-off day, Saturday,November 20, 2010 from 9:00am-12:00pm. Out-of-County residents can register beginning Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Open Registration will continue Monday through Thursday only, between 1:00pm-4:30pm. Final day of registration is Thursday, January 20, 2011. NO FRIDAY OR SATURDAY REGISTRATIONS. No registration on November 25 & 26, December 24, 2010 and January 17, 2011. If single classes are not filled by the registration deadline date, registration will continue until the first day of class under a different time schedule which will be posted on the front doors. All children under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. A birth cerficate is required to register children age 6 and under.

WHERE DO I REGISTER? Registration is held at the East Athens Educational Dance Center, 390 McKinley Drive, Athens, GA, 30601. For directions, call (706) 613-3624.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Fees vary and are listed with each class/program description. Drop-in rate for unregisterd children and adults pay $5.00 per class (in-county residents) and $8.00 per class (out-of-county residents). No drop-ins are accepted in the children’s accelerated programs or G.I.F.T.E.D. Performing Ensemble. No drop-ins are accepted in single classes that are filled to capacity on the day of drop-in. All program fees must be paid in full at the time of registration (or drop-in) by cash or check. Checks are made payable to Athens-Clarke County. When paying cash, please have the exact amount. Sorry, we do not accept debit or credit cards. SIGN UP FOR THE ANNUAL DANCE RECITAL (Recital Dates: Saturday, April 30, 2011-3:00pm and Sunday, May 1, 2011-3:00pm) Children: $3.00 (in-county) and $5.00 (out-of-county) - per class Adult: $7.00 (in-county) and $11.00 (out-of-county) - per class PLUS all participants pay a usage fee of $3 per costume

CAN I APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP? Yes. In-county residents only. Children age 18 and under may be eligible for a scholarship that will reduce the class/program fee up to 100%. Apply at our location or any ACC Leisure Services location.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ORIENTATION? Yes. All parents enrolling children for the first time in the single classes and accelerated programs are required to attend the mandatory orientation on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Orientation begins promptly at 6:00pm. Orientation is approximately 45 minutes long which consist of program expectations, reviewing policies, and answering questions. Failure to attend orientation may result in the student’s registration being cancelled.

WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY? If we cancel a class or program due to insufficient enrollment or other reasons, Leisure Services will issue a full refund to all registered individuals. No refunds will be granted after the start of a class or program or if the student drops out during the session. Refund requests must include a Refund Request Form and be submitted no later than seven (7) business days prior to the first day of class or program. Requests must be received from and refunds issued to the individual who signed the registration form. Refunds are subject to an administration processing fee of 25% of the amount paid. Behavior related dismissals may not be eligible for a refund. All requests for refunds are forwarded to the Leisure Services Department Director for final approval.

DO YOU SELL DANCEWEAR? We have a small dancewear store with a limited supply of dancewear in stock at very affordable prices. Our supply consists of pink ballet slippers, black tap oxfords, black patent-leather tap shoes, black leotards, and pink, white, brown, and suntan tights from child to adult sizes. We sell only to students enrolled at the Center. When purchasing dancewear for a child, we strongly recommend that the child be present for fitting. We have a “no return policy” once the dancewear is purchased and taken home.

TAP DANCE RHYTHMS Kindergarten to 7th Grade (Ages 5-12) CLASS SCHEDULE: TUESDAYS, JANUARY 25 THRU APRIL 26, 2011 4:30-5:30PM (Studio A) Open level class for the beginning to moderately trained student. This class introduces the student to a wide range of rhythmic possibilities in dance. This tap class works with simple rhythmic skills and builds on these skills to incorporate speed and precision. Class meets one day a week for 12 weeks. ALL LEVELS. DRESS REQUIREMENT: Girls are required to wear a black leotard with black shorts or leggings, and black tap shoes. Boys are required to wear black shorts, a white fitted T-shirt, and black tap shoes. FUNKY JAZZ DANCE Kindergarten to 7th Grade (Ages 5-12) CLASS SCHEDULE: WEDNESDAYS, JANUARY 26 THRU APRIL 27, 2011 4:30-5:30PM (Studio A) Jazz dance utilizes popular dance styles to engage students in a vigorous and enjoyable physical workout. Students also learn the structure of jazz dance class, which includes technique, jazz isolations, and locomotor skills. Music selections are clean and age appropriate. Class meets one day a week for 12 weeks. ALL LEVELS. DRESS REQUIREMENT: Girls are required to wear a black leotard with black shorts or leggings, and black jazz shoes. Boys are required to wear black shorts, a white fitted T-shirt, and black jazz shoes. PRAISE DANCE 3rd Grade to High School (Ages 8-15) CLASS SCHEDULE: WEDNESDAYS, JANUARY 26 THRU APRIL 27, 2011 4:30-5:30PM (Studio B1) Students will learn a variety of interpretive and expressive movements to music ranging in contemporary gospel, hip hop gospel, and old spirituals. The use of the hands, arms, formations, and the use of props such as streamers, tambourines, fans, fabric and chairs will be emphasized. This class is ideal for students involved in their church’s dance ministry or just want to dance in church for special occasions. ALL LEVELS. NO RELIGIOUS TEACHINGS IN THIS CLASS. DRESS REQUIREMENT: Girls are required to wear a leotard and a mid-length or short lyrical or wrap dance skirt of any color. Boys are required to wear a white fitted t-shirt and lose fitting pants of any color. MODERN DANCE 3rd Grade to High School Ages 8-15 CLASS SCHEDULE: TUESDAYS, JANUARY 25 THRU APRIL 26, 2011 5:30-6:30PM (Studio A) Open level class for the beginning to moderately trained student. Students will learn various modern dance techniques ranging in improvisation to Horton. The use props such as streamers, fabric, and other objects will be incorporated to explore movement. Class meets one day a week for 12 weeks. DRESS REQUIREMENT: Girls are required to wear a black leotard, black footless tights or leggings. HIP HOP RHYTHM & STYLE Kindergarten to 7th Grade (Ages 5-12) CLASS SCHEDULE: TUESDAYS, JANUARY 25 THRU APRIL 26, 2011 4:30-5:30PM (STUDIO B2) Open level class full of fun and exciting Hip Hop dance movements from a variety of styles. Music selections are clean and age appropriate. Class meets one day a week for 12 weeks. DRESS REQUIREMENT: Girls and boys are required to wear t-shirts, shorts or stretch pants No jeans or tight fitting or baggy clothes. Jazz shoes or athletic shoes with clean soles are also required. In order to keep our dance floors clean of dirt and grit, shoes should not be worn outdoors. This adult class offers a variety of tap dance steps guaranteed to have you dancing down grocery aisles. Ideal for adults of all ages and levels who just want to keep fit. CHILDREN’S ACCELERATED DANCE PROGRAMS For the highly motivated student who is inspired to excel in dance! (Children ages 6-15 years with at least one year of dance training in ballet and tap or at least one summer of specialized training in an intensive summer dance program) Students are accepted into the accelerated programs by audition and recommendation of the East Athens Educational Dance Center teaching staff. These programs offer intensive technical training to develop and strengthen posture, placement, fexibility, balance, coordination, and rhythm. The student is expected to improve movement quality, and gain a greateer understanding of dance theory and composition. The criteria for acceptance and retaining a position in an accelerated program is as follows: 1) the student’s overall approach to dance needs to be one that exceeds expectations; 2) the student should be highly focused, dedicated, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and possess excellent leadership skills; 3) the student is expected to work to his/her fullest potential at all times; 4) the student should also be a quick learner, be very alert and confident, and enjoy being challenged. Students will have an opportunity to perform in the annual dance production and annual recital providing they meet all eligibility and program requirements. Classes run for eight weeks. G.I.F.T.E.D. PERFORMING ENSEMBLE

2011 AUDITIONS FOR COMPANY MEMBERS WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, APRIL 8TH Giving Inspirational Feelings Through Expressive Dance describes this unique children’s performing ensemble that is dedicated to reaching new audiences through outreach performances and programs. The objective is to educate, entertain, and inspire people to appreciate dance as a performing art. The G.I.F.T.E.D. Performing Ensemble aims to give its young members a rewarding experience in a variety of dance styles and techniques that will prepare them for a college that offers a BA or BFA in dance. The members are also given the opportunity to assist with teaching younger children at the East Athens Educational Dance Center to gain valuable work experience and work ethics for future endeavors.

Company members must be at least 9 years of age and enrolled in the East Athens Educational Dance Center’s Accelerated Programs 2 thru 4. An audition is required. Open auditions are held annually in April. Current members are required to re-audition every year during open audition. Up to 20 members can be selected based on the judges scores and teachers’ recommendations. Members are required to pay an annual fee along with additional fees for uniforms, required dancewear, field trips, special events, etc. Year-long membership includes workshops, classes, rehearsals, visiting artists, costume use, community outreach performances, annual concert, special events, Xmas party, photo sessions, volunteer assignments, assistant teaching assignments, fundraisers, choreography in the Annual Dance Production and Annual Dance Recital, and special recognition. CHECKLIST FOR REGISTRATION Before you register your child, be prepared to know or have the following information. The Parent or legal guardian can only register the child. No other family member. Bring the birth certificate of your child 6 years old and under. Bring your family physician information (i.e. name, address, phone number) Bring your medical insurance policy number and hospital preference. In-county residents applying for a scholarship will need to bring acceptable credentials for dependency verification, income verification, and residency verification. If you are purchasing dancewear for your child, your child must be present for the fitting. You can pay by check or cash for registration fees and dancewear. When paying cash, please have the exact amount. Sorry, we do not take debit or credit cards.
