Igniting a passion for learning andy Creek Nature Center, Inc. is excited! We are planning to expand the Environment, Natural Science and Appropriate Technology Center (ENSAT) so we can better meet the environmental education needs of our growing community.

S

This expansion project will feature… • Agricultural ILC – From the soil to the grocery store, this hands-on learning center will carry visitors on a journey of discovery through agricultural ecology, history and the story of how commodities make their way to our table at home. Super Science Day at ENSAT • Woodlands ILC – Hands-on education about the ecology of Piedmont woodlands. Will cover forest ecology, plants and animals, and timber as an agricultural product. Outdoor components will encourage visitors to explore the woods of Sandy Creek Nature Center. • Urban ILC – Will show how our cities, towns and suburbs affect – and are affected by – the natural world. Showcases ENSAT’s green construction and real-world energy-saving features. • Sky Center – A planetarium-style dome and projection system providing the region’s only instructional area on astronomy and meteorology. • Expansion of ILC hall – Some 4,000 square feet of new space for indoor components of the Woodlands and Urban ILCs, Sky Center, traveling exhibits and more. • LEED Certification – The original ENSAT building was designed with the most cost-effective techniques to reduce energy-related expenses and pollution available at that time. The expansion will continue the tradition, being built to the current national standards for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. • Air Quality Monitoring/Demonstration Station – Monitoring station will teach the science behind air quality standards, demonstrating why air quality is important and how our actions affect it. Will be the only publicly accessible, interpretive monitoring station in the region. • And more – The project will include, as funds allow, expansion and relocation of the ENSAT library, creation of an outdoor classroom and courtyard, parking lot and driveway improvements, exhibit preparation areas and additional animal care facilities. The continuing development of ENSAT is part of the voter-approved SPLOST 2005 initiative to raise funds for in public works, public safety and quality of life projects. The ENSAT expansion will receive approximately $2.8 million.
