WORKING WITH PEOPLE

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE DOCUMENT OR CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT Have you watched someone use sign language and wished you could understand? American Sign Language (ASL) is a complete language using signs, hand shapes and facial expressions. The deaf community is a group of deaf people who find cohesiveness in this shared language as well as other cultural values. The Vista Signing Naturally program prepares you to converse in American Sign Language. This standardized curriculum not only teaches signs but also grammar and deaf culture. This program consists of two levels; each level is made up of three 40-hour courses. Each level is progressively more demanding and requires increasing degrees of skill. The Master Gardener program is open to anyone with an interest in gardening. It is an opportunity to learn, share gardening experience and to develop friendships through community volunteerism. Master Gardeners take pride in achieving their certification and continue to share their knowledge with others in their community. Assiniboine Community College (ACC) is pleased to deliver the full Master Gardener program in Winnipeg.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

An authentic certification designed to provide up-to-date information on all gardening basics and combines home study, classroom instruction and an exam. An internship of 40 hours is required to be completed before the written exam. The internship hours should include a variety of activities. All of your hours should benefit the community through a combination of hours in gardening related volunteer work, hours in meetings, and hours in horticulture related events. Sow the seeds of your gardening hobby by turning it into a career and find employment with a horticulture-based organization by becoming a Manitoba Master Gardener Association recognized green thumb.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Take your love of gardening to the next level by passing on your knowledge and gardening services to communities and other horticulture-based establishments such as farmer’s markets, gardening events and workshops.

English is the language of instruction at ACC. All applicants educated outside of Canada or in a country not on the test exempt list are expected to meet the English language proficiency requirement. Visit assiniboine.net/elp for more information. To receive a Master Gardener document of achievement, students must successfully complete 39 academic hours, 40 volunteer hours and the Master Gardener theory exam. Students can start accumulating volunteer hours after being accepted into the program. Hours must be completed within one year.
