articles: A special thanks to all Accor Vacation Club Travel Consultants and Members for their contribution. We make every effort to ensure that the content in this magazine is correct at the time of printing. However, some items outside of our control may change from time to time.
FROM THE CEO I usually start my final update of the year reflecting on where the year has gone. But not this year! Instead, I find myself saying where has the last ten years gone? It’s been a privilege and a pleasure to be CEO of Accor Vacation Club over the course of the last decade, and I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support and feedback you have given me during the last ten years. At the beginning of 2010 we embarked on the most comprehensive refurbishment program ever undertaken by the Club and it continues to this day. We recently completed what can only be described as a transformation of The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach and if you haven’t stayed there yet, I encourage you to give your friendly Member Services team a call. Though I say so myself, it’s truly spectacular! A major change over the last ten years has been the growth and impact of social media. Its influence on society has negatives of course, but its scope for keeping us in touch in real time, for letting us feel closer to far-flung friends and loved ones, to share fun, interesting and informative content, is unprecedented. Social media has given Accor Vacation Club a great way to engage with you, our Members. Our social media platforms have gone from strength to strength, in particular our Facebook page, which now has almost 11,000 followers. There’s no better place to find out what’s happening in your Club, to pick up tips for your holidays and get recommendations for good things to do around and about your Club properties. My thanks to those of you who are active on our Facebook page. Thank you for all your comments, photos and ‘likes’. Believe me, I really do read every comment on every post. Another joy for me is our ‘Surprise & Delight’ program (featured in this edition), which
sees so many special occasions celebrated with Accor Vacation Club Members. Please, if you have a special occasion during your stay, be sure to tell us. You can do so by simply going on to our website home page and click to make a request. You’ll know that after 15 years at Robina we have moved to our new corporate headquarters in Surfers Paradise. If you’re in the vicinity, we’d love you to pop in and say hello. Also, should you ever want to provide me feedback, please do drop me a note on ceo@accorvacationclub.com.au. Finally, a thought of mine to finish on. I’m not a person with many regrets in life. But if I look back at the last decade and pick one, it’s almost certainly not taking enough holidays! So, let’s move into the next decade and holiday more. Please give your Member Services team a call today to book your first of many holidays in the 2020s and make the next decade a memorable one. I wish you all a wonderful festive season and a happy, healthy and fulfilled 2020. Happy Holidays!

The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach in Sydney’s prestigious Northern Beaches has completed a full upgrade incorporating a new “Coastal Series” design theme.

The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach, foyer SUMMER 2019

T
he stunning new design reflects the hotel’s enviable location on the southern end of popular Manly Beach – named Australia’s best beach in TripAdvisor 2019 Travellers’ Choice Awards.
“Our continued hotel upgrading programme recognises our commitment to maintaining the high level of quality and finish that our Members expect of Accor Vacation Club properties,” says Accor Vacation Club CEO, Craig Wood. “In this instance, we have drawn inspiration from The Sebel’s immediate environment, using design elements, colours and textures that reflect Manly’s urban beach appeal. The result is a highly sophisticated, yet welcoming coastal finish that we trust will exceed members and guests expectations. Of course, the stunning view across Manly Beach and the ocean from many of our guest rooms remains the same!” The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach’s extensive fit-out incorporates new-look accommodation plus completely updated public spaces – including the hotel’s pool area - taking into careful consideration the specific needs of longer-stay leisure travellers. A fresh kitchenette design in apartments allows for copious amounts of storage, while pristine new Ceasarstone Blanco Drift bench tops enhance the experience for self-catering guests. Modified bathrooms now provide ultra-modern fittings and accessories – such as new vanities – delivering a more luxurious feel for holidaymakers. In addition to new paint, improved modern lighting, carpet and tile floor coverings, the refurbishment included new Samsung 55” televisions, as well as new bedding, furniture and soft furnishings, in guest rooms and apartments. The hotel has also introduced USB incorporated wall plugs and wireless Qi chargers for added convenience. “One of the major changes visitors will notice on arrival is the spectacular new lobby and reception area,” said Mr Wood. “We believe this significantly enhances the overall ambience and sense of arrival for guests checking into the hotel. We really are offering a new look, but the same sunset for those that are fans of our enviable beachfront location.” The Sebel’s new design draws from the vibrancy of the local area in the texture and colour scheme of the apartments, and specially designed and custom made carpet. In support of the hotel’s Planet 21 environmental charter, 100% recyclable and low environmental impact Biowood panelling features on selected walls throughout the apartments, while Mod Wood decking has been used in places underfoot. Both are textural and warm additions that add further depth to The Sebel’s finished walls and floors, adding to the overall aesthetics of the room with a relaxed sense of breezy beach living. The mix of light wall colours and natural timber-look tiles adds to the light and spacious feel of the rooms. This is further complemented by modern furniture choices and neutral fabrics and materials (think woven basket storage, plus stylish bench seats and ottomans) which all add to the hotel’s fresh on trend appeal. The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach is highly popular with Accor Vacation Club Members and other travellers alike due to its well-appointed rooms, balconies and prime location within easy walking distance of Manly’s bustling bar and restaurant scene, picturesque coastal walks plus key attractions such as North Head Sanctuary and Manly Surf School.

What Kyong Ho Pang the Hotel Manager of The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach, would like you to know about Manly, the property and the fabulous refurbishment.
T
he Sebel Sydney Manly Beach, where you live and holiday like a local. While the Hotel has undergone a major transformation, the location retains it’s many attractions. Take in the sunrise while enjoying a morning coffee at Manly Wine Restaurant. Stroll along beautiful Manly Beach and enjoy the see breeze. Explore the Corso Mall, catch the ferry to Circular Quay…or take a bus to North Head and watch the sunset over the breathtaking Sydney harbour view; it’s just priceless. Manly Beach has been voted the ‘No. 1 beach in Australia’ by Trip Advisor, for the 2nd year in a row. The location comes with plenty of amazing restaurants to try while you visit. Pilu at Freshwater, is a heritage-listed beach house, right in front of Freshwater beach. A laid back Aussie beach vibe meeting fine dining, with a view to match. Pilu at Freshwater is bright and airy, with soft-grey furnishings, timber floorboards and arched windows. When it comes to the food, forget what you think you know about Italian cuisine. The sophisticated menu is inspired by Owner Giovanni Pilu’s Sardinian heritage and the extensive 31 page award winning wine list is not just for show. (The Sunday Telegraphy, 2019)

What our guests
are saying about our new look...
‘As a family who loves to holiday we have been to Sydney many times but our exposure to Manly had previously been limited to a ferry ride from Circular Quay, a walk down the Corso to the beach, a quick look around, lunch and then back on the ferry to Sydney. That was until recently when we decided to book a seven night stay at The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach. As luck would have it our stay took place just after the hotel renovations. Even though we had never stayed in the club rooms at this hotel before we could see from the previous photos that the renovation was significant, not only to the rooms but the lobby as well. As Accor Vacation Clubs only truly beachfront property having an ocean room was the icing on the cake. We spent more time at Manly than we had anticipated, only leaving the area on a couple of day trips to visit Luna Park, Bondi and the city. There is so much to explore in the area. The protected waters of Shelly Beach is only a short walk from the hotel, just past the picturesque ocean pool. The barracks precinct at North Head was fun to explore with all the old gun turrets and lookouts. We found some great walks along Cabbage Tree Bay and Manly Cove and of course along the sand and esplanade at Manly Beach. Even found the water slides that featured in BMX Bandits at Manly Cove along with many other landmarks from the film. With the accommodation being right on the waterfront having lazy beach days was a breeze, there was no need to pack up lunches and a heap of gear to go to the beach, we could simply walk down from our room spend some time on the sand, in the water and then duck back to the room for lunch or a drink at the bar. Our apartment had everything we needed for a week long family stay. With all the kitchen amenities and spacious living areas it was like a home away from home. And when it came to food and dining we were spoilt for choice, with food and drinks available downstairs, to the large selection of local restaurants and of course major retail grocery nearby. We’ve stayed in many of our clubs properties but the Sebel Manly Beach might just be our new favourite.’ Jason, Accor Vacation Club Member

The planning and effort that went into The Sebel refurbishment was extensive and involved a whole team of dedicated professionals’, says Darren Diffey, Technical Services & Refurbishment Manager.
A
t the planning stage, I thought this one would be the jewel in the Accor Vaction Club crown. Well, we did not disappoint. The finished product is truly spectacular and in my opinion exceeds the look and feel that we planned to produce. Kyong and The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach team, now dressed in complementing new uniforms, are taking this property to the next level of service and hospitality. Time will tell where this property will rate but the target can be nothing short of No1! I highly recommend you go and check out this fabulous property.

Duration - 10 Weeks Everything in The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach transformation has been thoughtfully curated to represent the hotel’s iconic destination. Subtly infused textures, patterns and materials identify the essence of coastal chic and a relaxed luxury. Elements of the refurbishment were acquired based on the following style influences.
The Rooms Carpet: the reflective sparkle of water reflection in the sunlight. Kitchen Floor Tiles: sandy board walk, manly wharf and old timber boats. Kitchen Bench Top: sand at low tide on a cloudy day and a compliment to the existing outdoor balcony tiles. Kitchen Cabinetry: Northern Beaches modern Hamptons. Kitchen Handles: burnt timber from beach fire. Bathroom Wall Tiles: white water washing over sandy shores. MDF Panelling: wax on surfboard and old school fibro beach shack from eras gone by. Bedroom Table Lamp: sea urchins. Bedroom Wallpaper: washed denim and wellworn beach towels.
Foyer and Forecourt Floor Tiles: sand at low tide. Lanterns: romantic alfresco dining associated with resort holidays. Outdoor Furniture: nautical fishing nets. Arched Mirrors: retro seafront shelters. Ceiling Wallpaper: contemporary northern beaches architecture. Pendant Lights: sea life bobbing in the ocean. Reception Counter Mosaic Tiles: woven straw hats or woven straw beach baskets. Modwood Deck: Manly Wharf boardwalk. Carpet: stylised pine trees (coloured as the local cliff rocks) against a deep blue ocean. Glazed Ceramic Screen Dividers: bobble seaweed strands.
FEATURE Talking Points Bedroom Wallpaper: Stripe wall coverings are fine handcrafted wall covering where two textures of natural material come together to unveil stripe or square patterns as strips of paper woven with thick jute for a new style of seamless paper weave. Bedroom Bedside Lamps: Hand made in India. Individually hand crafted metal base in antique brass with white handloom shades. Lobby Decorative “Cone” Screens: manufactured in Japan. These decorative cones are manufactured using traditional glaze recipes and craftsmanship techniques referred to as “Mino style ceramics”. Biowood Composite Timber Panelling: used extensively throughout lobby and guestrooms. Bio-wood is an environmentally sustainable timber alternative with the added benefits of durability and strength.
Inlay Dining Table: handmade in East Java (Indonesia) by master craftsmen. Each table top constructed of a multiple of different woods and assembled by teams of 4. Each table top has approximately 3,500 hand cut timber pieces carefully inset into the wooden frame. To preserve this delicate assembly, the tables have been sealed with a gloss resin and glass. The table tops represent the earthy/natural Northern beaches theme which is prevalent throughout this property’s transformation. 1. The Plantation Mahogany veneer face is laser cut for precision and then hand sprayed to ensure an even and controlled paint distribution. 2. After being cut, each mosaic piece is sanded by hand. 3. Once smooth, they are cleaned and sprayed. 4. Each mosaic piece is then carefully glued into place. 5. Quality assessment takes place throughout the process, with removal and replacement of any piece with the slightest of imperfections. 6. The tops are then thoroughly cleaned prior to being sanded and polished, smoothing out any uneven texture and removing any glue residue. 7. Once complete, each top is then individually finished with the epoxy resin to ensure longevity of the mosaic. 8. The tops are left to set before being polished once again to create a high-shine finish. 9. The inlay is then lowered into the solid Plantation Mahogany frame and fixed into place. 10. Each top is then quality controlled once again to make sure that the inlay sits flush and is properly secured.

Amazing atmosphere and staff We we’re lucky to have the weekend off to spend in Margaret River. This must be the best hotel in the area. Amanda did all she could to make our stay a pleasant one. And WOW! On our Short stay we had a wine tour, ate at a lovely tapas restaurant (that Amanda fixed), had an amazing breakfast, played tennis and had a dip in the pool. I would love to come back here sometime soon.

Amazing stay- value for $$ This was our second time at Puka Park Resort and this time we came to celebrate the bday of our daughter. We loved every minute of our stay. The rooms are impeccable, clean, spacious and well equipped. Heated pool was nice for the weather. Food was amazing and above all, what we love the most at Puka Park, is the level of customer service from extremely friendly and professional staff who is all a part of the Puka Park experience. They went above and beyond to arrange a cake for my daughter, especially the front office staff. Thank you for everything and we will definitely be back (have already booked our next stay! :))
Short stay
Celebrate first birthday.
Lovely chalets set in native forest. Other chalets were barely seen. Very comfortable, good bed t be hard to and shower. The staff were excellent, particularly with the electric cart service between chalet, car park, and main building with bar and restaurant. It will not be hard to find a reason to go back.
We enjoyed our stay. Staff members is very helpful. Love the food as well. Excellent experience with the help of resort people. Thank you all. Coming soon to visit the same place. Weather is also really good.

Amazing! If I could choose to stay anywhere - it would be here! The hotel has an amazing location, close to everything (beach, shops, restaurants, services). The best location in Manly. The staff are second to none. Go above and beyond and are genuinely beautiful people who want you to have the nicest stay you can. They are so friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back - preferably perpetually!
Great time in Manly
Beautiful room, well appointed
Had a nice stay with great views. The room was fairly comfortable and clean. Would definitely recommend. The hotel is very well located, just a step from Manly beach and close to Manly’s center. I was very well received by a friendly madam on my arrival at the reception.
My husband and I spent two nights.... and I have nothing but praise for the customer service, and the comfort and practicality of the studio. Right across the beach, walking distance to the ferry and the Corso. Recommend it
Family visit and wedding anniversary LOVED this hotel. High spec rooms, lovely staff, big up to Reuben from Sheffield- helpful and really personable. Could not be more convenient for the gorgeous Manly beach. Perfect place for our wedding anniversary

THE CLUB
SUMMER 2019

Your Member Services and Reservations Team have moved with the rest of the Accor Vacation Club Team. Leading the way yet again, Accor Vacation Club have flung open its doors to its Members. Providing a true walk-in “shop front” environment for Members to pop in anytime for a coffee and catch up with the Member Services team, who by the way love to hear your holiday stories.
Over 14 weeks a disused, derelict, back of house office space located at Mantra on View was transformed into our new home. The condition of our new office space was indescribable. Offices left as they were, some 10 years ago! Accor Vacation Club’s CEO Craig Wood was very specific with his detailed brief, “make it better than Google with a beach feel”. And so began a design concept through to completion - complete with games arcade, showroom kitchen and lounge area, swing chair breakout area, cinema quality high tech training/ boardroom, open plan, funked up beach feel office space with surfboards and an abundance of real plants. Arguably a much cooler place to work than Google – it’s awesome to be Accor Vacation Club!! Located in the heart of the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise, it could not be easier for you to pop in and say hello whilst holidaying at one of the nearby Club properties. So don’t delay – come and see us today! The coffee is on us.
I’m coming up to celebrating my 8th anniversary with Accor Vacation Club! Reflecting on the years gone by far too quickly, I’ve seen the team grow from strength to strength. Seeing our Members enjoying their memberships gives me the greatest pleasure and makes all of the hard work even more worth while. So without further a do I introduce you to your dedicated Member Services Team...
Sharon Norburn General Manager Member Services and Guest Experience
THE CLUB Portia Evans After leaving high school, I jumped straight into the workforce with 3 part-time jobs. One as a sales assistant at a shoe store, one as a sales consultant for a marketing company and the third was as a Call Centre representative here at Accor Vacation Club. At that stage, my life was work and nothing else. It had no meaning or purpose. A full time position as a Member Services Coordinator popped up, I applied straight away with my fingers crossed but not much hope due to the fact I was so young. I was lucky enough to get the job. I’ve been in Member Services for over a year now and I am lucky enough to absolutely love my job and the company I work for. Every day is different, challenging and exciting. My boss constantly believes in me and pushes me to endeavour on projects that I thought were way beyond my abilities for both my age and knowledge. My job gives me the opportunity to have a positive impact on people’s lives and make a difference every day. I go home and I know I made a real difference. Outside of work I’m an avid jogger. I’m lucky enough to live right near the beach where I run about 5 times per week. I’m also a huge foodie and enjoy dining out at the vast range of restaurants and bars on the Gold Coast.
Blair Preston People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care is a core belief of mine that drives me each day to deliver outstanding customer service. My love for people has attracted me to a number of customer service roles in the past including volunteer work. I have had the privilege of working in Reservations at Accor Vacation Club since November 2018 after starting out in marketing in June of 2018. The position provides me with every opportunity to serve others and challenges me to go the extra mile. The highlight of the job is every outbound courtesy call that ends in a Member getting a holiday! I am passionate about people and listening to their stories as I find inspiration in them for my favourite pastime writing and I was once privileged to write for a women’s lifestyle website in Ormond Beach Florida. It’s the dream of my life to contribute to the literary world that has given me so much joy, wisdom and adventure. When I’m not writing or reading, you’ll find me cooking, sewing or binge-watching Seinfeld.

Since leaving school I have always worked in hospitality in various roles and sectors gaining valuable experience. Roles include sales, food and beverage, Call Centre team leading and being a part of opening a brand new hotel and working on the front desk.
Coming from an background in customer service and management within the car rental and real estate industries. I understand the importance of providing our much valued Members a positive and rewarding experience at every opportunity.
This is my second time being employed by Accor Vacation Club and couldn’t be happier being a part of a team that services and helps our Members plan their exciting holidays. I really do love engaging with our Members and hearing about their stories and holidays sharing experiences and the occasional laughs. I learn as much from our Members as they do from me. I am passionate about Accor and what they stand for.
Since commencing with Accor Vacation Club in 2016, I have enjoyed assisting Members with their holiday plans, and, understanding how to use their membership to it fullest. The most rewarding part of my job is becoming aware of how my guidance and customer service, makes a positive impact to our Members. Helping them to take that much needed holiday, resulting in creating treasured memories with their loved ones.
I participated in the ‘Race to Survive’ challenge in October this year. The ‘Race to Survive’, is a 3 day challenge in the hinterland above the Gold Coast. Sleeping in a tent for three days, doing long distant hikes, obstacles and games. The challenge helps raise much needed funds for many charities that I hold close to my heart.
When not at work, I try to make the most of the fantastic Gold Coast lifestyle. Spending time outdoors with my young family, enjoying the beautiful beaches and exploring nearby regions.
The Accor Vacation Club is a massive driving force behind helping the community and many charities each year. This combined with a great team and Members puts a smile on my face every time I wake up for work.
Suzanne Holland My background is in hairdressing where I spent 15 years managing salons on the Northern Beaches in Sydney before making the change to the Gold Coast with my 3 kids. I was lucky enough to secure a job with Accor Vacation Club back in 2016 and have had a ball booking Members in for their dream holidays. Hearing them get excited about their holidays really makes my day. I am truly blessed to be working with such wonderful Members.
Rylie Woods My work career so far has been in customer service. I throughly enjoy being able to help people. My first job was at McDonalds and I stayed there for 4 years. I have now worked at Accor Vacation Club for over a year and have been offered great opportunities to kick start a career. They only want you to succeed and that’s exactly what has happened for me. I have worked in two different departments for Accor Vacation Club. I recently moved over to Reservations and I have been loving every step of my journey. It’s all about growing and knowing that I work for such a great company helps me thrive. This is really important to me! I am all about a balanced lifestyle. Now having the stability of a full time job, I now can enjoy myself completely in my free time. I try to make the most of my days. Whether it’s out enjoying the sun at the beach, keeping active or doing a group session with friends as long as your happy life is truly good!
THE CLUB Azra Gataric I am part of our awesome and high functioning Member Services team at Accor Vacation Club. I was born and lived most of my life in Bosnia and Herzegovina. My background is exceptional customer service in different industries. I worked for many years as tour guide and have visited many countries yet Australia stole my heart. When I moved to Australia in 2017, my lovely manager gave me an immediate chance to develop and enhance my Tourism and Hospitality career. I have adjusted very quickly, progressed a lot, evolved my skills and met wonderful people. Coming from a diverse background, with knowledge of different cultures and languages, has allowed me to communicate easily with a wide range of Members. One of the most important values of Accor Vacation Club is promoting diversity as well as great holiday options. I love working with a team that makes a difference in people’s lives and creates wonderful holidays for our Members. My emphatic and friendly approach, politeness and positive attitude leads to me fulfilling my duty swiftly and efficiently. I love nothing more than helping Members maximise the full potential of their memberships. Seeing them on holidays and then calling to tell me what a great time they have had, pleases me. I will keep making sure their every holiday is enjoyable and unforgettable as every moment in their life counts.

Alina Martin I moved up to Queensland after finishing high school in Yamba NSW. I jumped straight into customer service based roles knowing this is something I would enjoy. I worked for St George bank for almost three years where I established a lot of lifelong skills. I decided to make the move down to Melbourne and started a role with Suncorp bank managing house insurance claims in the natural disasters department. After 12 months in Melbourne, I decided to move back to Queensland to be closer to my family and friends. I decided to steer away from finance and banking and try something new, which is when I applied for the Member Services Coordinator here at Accor Vacation Club. I have learnt so much this past year, not only about the club and travelling, but also a lot about myself and how much I can help people and make a difference. My favourite parts of my job are all the amazing people I get to meet. I wouldn’t be able to do this job without the team I work with and my leader supporting me.
Casey McAneny I’ve only been with Accor Vacation Club a short time and was made to feel very welcome straight away. I’ve been in the customer service industry for well over a decade, in both frontline customer service and management. I look forward to using my expertise to deliver an outstanding customer experience to our Members. When not at work, I love spending time with my partner, and our 18 month old son Louis at the beach, or kicking back with a book when he (finally) goes to sleep. I love cooking for my family and friends. I love getting the crew together on the weekend for a tray of homemade fried chicken and some beers to watch the NBA or a movie. I look forward to speaking with you soon!

I was born in New Zealand and raised on very a remote sheep and cattle station, with my parents and 3 sisters. Riding my horse to school was a way of life.
I moved to Australia from the UK in 1994 and worked in Customer Service and Management roles in the Telecommunications and Finance/Banking sectors.
Having lived most of my life in Australia, I met and married to an Australian and have a teenage son. I have travelled extensively and lived in varied parts of the world. My working career has been based around customer service in various industries. I enjoy talking with our Members and helping them plan their holidays where they create wonderful memories with their families. I like to ensure each and every Member I speak to comes away with a better understanding of how their membership works. I enjoy the positive impact I have on our Members with the knowledge they receive from our wonderful Member Services Team. Outside of work I am an avid animal lover and have 3 gorgeous rescue staffies. My husband is a local coffee roaster so our little family spends our weekends together, selling coffee.
In July 2013 I joined the Accor Vacation Club working in their Finance department. In July 2014 I moved across to the Member Services team. One of my primary roles in Member Services is to welcome all the brand new Members to the Accor Vacation Club, get them booked in for a workshop over the phone or face to face at our offices in Surfers Paradise. What I love most about my role is being able to educate our Members on how to use their club and to get the most out of their memberships. Of course the ultimate goal is to get our Members on fabulous and memorable family holidays. Outside of work I love to spend my time with my beautiful and very busy other half. Walks along the beach with our Alfie (English Cocker Spaniel). Landscape and astro photography, fly fishing in salt and freshwater. So I love to be amongst nature.
James Bowman I have worked in a array of different jobs, including but not limited to, dressing up as different characters for theme parks, tailoring suits and selling video games. The underlying theme between all of them was the people I got to work with and the people I meet and spoke to each day. I’ve met celebrities, Mayors, CEO’s, parents, students and strangers and have enjoyed every second of working with them. This is why I made the transition into Members Services here at the Accor Vacation Club as a perfect setting where I get to work with and help a lot of different people every day. Outside of work, I have a number of hobbies including, photography, skateboarding, snowboarding, playing Trivia and travelling. I’m always on my feet and finding something to do.
Maria Power I love holidays! I love creating holidays of a lifetime, for our lovely, valued Members and helping them use their membership. This is what life is all about! I have joined Accor Vacation Club in 2007 and this is the best company I have ever worked for! I started in the Call Centre and moved to Reservations when the department relocated to the Gold Coast from Singapore. We have the best team! I have lived on the Gold Coast since migrating from the Philippines in 1995. I am so blessed to live in this beautiful part of Australia, enjoying the sun, surf and pristine beaches. I love seeing tourists and locals enjoying the relaxed lifestyle here.
THE CLUB Margaret Mackintosh
Maya Sutherland
I have been working at Accor Vacation Club since May 2017. I started as an Revenue/ Inventory Coordinator and moved to Member Services as a Reservations Coordinator when the Reservations Department started operation here on the Gold Coast.
I have been working at Accor Vacation Club in the Reservation and Member Services Team for 12 months now, and enjoy my role as a Reservations Coordinator.
Most of my career has been in hospitality in hotels, restaurants and IT roles. I spent 10 years working in Australia, Europe and USA. Travelling far and wide to hotel openings, training staff and providing support for properties. I truly value all that experience. Now that I am older, I enjoy living on the Gold Coast, talking to Members about all their fabulous holidays and sharing my travel experience to help Members find amazing places to visit. My husband and I travel often and have stayed at a few of the Club properties, including Grand Mercure Basildene Manor, The Sebel Flinders Lane Melbourne and The Sebel Sydney Manly Beach. We are doing our 2nd cruise in May next year to Alaska and Canada so hopefully and I can pass on some cruise experience to our Members when we get back. My interests are wide and varied and include visiting wineries and restaurants. As well as being a very patient assistant to my husband, who has taken up photography as a hobby. This means long periods of time watching sunrises, sunsets and doing night photo shoots counting meteors and making wishes.
Sofia Wiley I joined Accor Vacation Club Member Services in March 2013 and stayed with the team until December 2016. Before moving to get married and renovate a house. After 2 and a half years I had the opportunity to re-join Member Services. Now I had completed personal life goals, and once again fulfil my career aspirations. I have been in the Tourism and Holiday Club industry for 20 plus years. Accor has set the a high bar for standards, so there was no hesitation in rejoining the company and the Member Services team.
I am originally from Japan and have been in Australia for 10 years. I have worked as a flight attendant (FYI: I am not tall, very typical short Japanese girl), and as a Receptionist and Reservations Agent in hotels. So I have an extensive background in customer service. As a flight attendant, I travelled a lot and realised how holidays and travelling provide new experiences and memories. Even though I often get jealous when our Members book holidays (haha), assisting them book holidays happen, makes me so very happy. Just imagining how their holidays will be and what special memories and experiences they will have. What I love about working here is our Team. I do believe we could not succeed in making our Members satisfied without our “team work”. We help, advise, encourage each other and of cause laugh together. I feel happy gaining new experiences and insights, and challenging my boundaries. “Everything happens for a reason.” I appreciate every day at work for what I do, and what I learn. Looking forward to speaking with you! :)
It’s an absolute pleasure assisting our Members with guidance and support on how best to use and get the most benefit out of each individual Membership as so many of our Member’s travel in different ways depending on lifestyle. I have had the opportunity to visit 13 out of the 24 Club Properties and my personal favourite is Grand Mercure Puka Park on the Coromandel Peninsula, North Island New Zealand. It is hard to say why this became my favourite, but I think it is a combination of the location and the style of apartments, the stunning scenery, and the most mouth watering chocolate mousse I have ever tasted right there in the Club Property restaurant.

Hi Azra (Gataric) Thank you for your recent assistance. I have been a Club Member for some 15 years and have travelled and stayed in great properties in Australia and overseas. I have utilized various Western Australian, Victorian and Queensland properties, Alpineland in Austria (the one without the Kangaroos) and more recently on trip with my sons in Kilkenny Ireland. In the last two years I have been very busy with work and I have not had a holiday. It was so good to get back into the swing of things with an update from you. I am much more aware of the offerings now available. I am busy planning my next lot of travel through Accor Vacation Club (Canada looks good), it has given me the opportunity to travel and to stay at some amazing properties. Having somewhere to stay makes planning so much easier. Thanks again for your amazing service Brian Kay
Testimonials are a great way for the club to connect with you, our Members. They offer an opportunity for us to learn more about how Members are feeling and how well are meeting their needs. Member testimonials say so much more about the wonderful benefits of Club membership then we ever can. So please keep them coming... Hello, I have been a member with AVC for 10 years and I love the Club so much that I have several memberships which I use frequently to book accommodation throughout the fantastic array of Club properties. I have since visited most of the Club properties and myself and my family have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at each and every one of them. There are a few properties that I am yet to visit, although I am very much looking forward to those future stays. The best part about being a Member has been the opportunity to create treasured memories with loved ones. As a family, our favourite properties would have to be Twin Waters and The Sebel Palm Cove which are in fantastic locations and offer amazing facilities like many of the others. Being a NSW resident, we find The Sebel Bowral, Grand Mercure Hunter Valley, the Sebel Darling Harbour are particularly accessible and ideal for short stays. The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane is a fantastic place to stay to enjoy the excitement of certain events like Australian Open, Grand Prix, Melbourne Cup and AFL. One of the most memorable holidays is when we were able to use our points to book 2 weeks’ worth of accommodation during Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast I have always experienced sensational service by the Member Services team and although I make most of my bookings online, I have also found the Reservations team to be very helpful in times of need. I strongly believe the key is to utilize your membership as much as possible and to plan ahead in booking those well deserved holidays. Cameron Waters
THE CLUB We recently were fortunate to stay, once again, at The Sebel in Flinders Lane, Melbourne on Grand Final weekend....a very sought after location for that weekend in particular. We required two rooms, one standard and one with wheelchair accessibility. Thank you to the wonderful booking team at Accor Vacation Club. We were allocated in room 303 (disability) and room 1003. Both overlooked Flinders Lane. The staff at the Sebel were great in providing us with an early check-in for the standard room (11.30am). The rooms are well laid out and provide all the needs for a stay in the city. Well located near convenience stores for food provisions, takeaways and the train/tram network. The wheelchair accessible room had an excellent toilet facilities and shower set up, with ample rails provided. A drop down seat further adds to the safety and comfort of the area. There is a small step that one needs to take care with when exiting the oversized shower. There was a comment made that the shower head provided the best spray ever felt!! The hand basin was semi recessed and gave plenty of wheelchair access underneath. Overall a highly regarded disability bathroom! The rooms themselves are beautifully maintained. The décor was changed some years ago to quite a dark, sultry palette which makes for superb sleeping in a noisy, bustling city location! The room had a restful, peaceful ambience. Large screen TV’s (bedroom and lounge) completed the comfort level for our footy loving family! The Sebel staff have always been pleasant and obliging with nothing too much trouble and this year was no exception! Bright and happy they brightened our day on our early morning exits. Thank you Sebel Melbourne for a delightful, memorable stay!

Hi Margaret, We went on a dog sled experience at Mt Buller and would really recommend it to other Members. The dogs are several breeds of ‘huskies’, all rescued, and they now seem to really love their new life. All were happy and friendly with their carers praising each dog by name. www.sleddogtours.com.au Thank you, Dallas Tye

TRAVEL Travelling the world can give you a glimpse of what life can be. Terrains, landscapes, water formations – all these can give you a stunning look at any country. However, it is the people of a land, their daily lives, and their festivals where you’ll discover every destination’s soul. Carnivale, Rio de Janiero, Brazil: 21-26 February 2020
Considered as one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) party on Earth, Carnivale in Rio draws thousands of people from every country around the world to celebrate its deeply religious roots. Rio De Janeiro erupts in a cavalcade of loud music, lavish feathered parades, a riot of colour and party atmosphere, all accompanied to the Samba beat, over one week in February. This unique amalgamation of Portuguese and African culture is simply incredible, and must be experienced at least once in your life (if not more).
Holi Festival of Colours, India: 9-10 March 2020 From the world’s biggest party, we take you to a vibrantly coloured religious festival – India’s Holi Festival of Colours. This celebration of love, fertility of the land and the end of winter, is symbolised by singing, dancing, merrymaking, and, as its name suggests, a lot of colour. The festivities begin with people gathering around a massive bonfire and burning a sculpture of Holika, a Hindu Vedic demoness. The burning signifies a triumph of good versus evil. On the following day, the town, its buildings and every person, are saturated by clouds or coloured dye powder, and in recent times, drenched with dye-filled water balloons and water pistols. It’s a chance to cut loose, get very messy, and celebrate pure fun for the hell of it. *Prices/offers are valid until 29th February 2020 unless sold out prior and are correct at the time of distribution. Subject to availability and change or withdrawal of offer without notice. TRAVEL Songkran Festival, Thailand: 13-15 April 2020 On one of the hottest days of the year Thailand’s Buddhist New Year is a splashy time to celebrate. Songkran festival starts by pouring water on Buddha images and on hands of Buddhist monks as a mark of respect, cleansing and purification. It is then extended to all, and for three days buckets of water, water pistols, and getting soaking wet to symbolise a fresh, clean slate for the new year. Sort of a “Spring Clean” of the soul!
St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland or New York: 17 March 2020 Continuing through March, we indulge in an all-day party of green. Four-leaf clovers and leprechauns abound as the annual St. Patrick’s Festival covers the whole of Dublin and New York streets in verdant colour. While it is a festival of big brass bands, crooning “O Danny Boys” and swigging beer that many will think of, you’ll also find thrilling street parades, concerts, free educational lectures and workshops inside world-class museums, craft beer making, boat races, guided history walks, Irish food markets, Irish film screenings, plays and family friendly activities – it’s an Irish cultural extravaganza!
Cannes Film Festival, France: 12-23 May 2020
Set your sights on the Cannes Film Festival where celebrity glitterati of the world come to stay, play and spruik their upcoming films! It’s twelve days of intense passion for the cinema-lover, backed by gorgeous panoramic views of the French Riviera, the Mediterranean and vineyards of southern France – what’s not to love? Combine any trip with a gorgeous Mediterranean cruise or sample the flavours of France when you cruise her rivers from Paris to Bordeaux.
