Located in the Museum of Pharmacy, everything in this unique restaurant is connected to the theme of the old pharmacies. The comfort food menu, created by chef-owner Susana Felicidade, is pure bliss on a plate. There’s also a great terrace overlooking the charming square of Santa Catarina.
Everything is exceptional at Prado: chef António Galapito’s cuisine, the architecture and decor, the carefully curated wine list. The owners have a boutique delicatessen and cafe next door that’s also worth a visit.
Upon his death, Portuguese mogul António Champalimaud donated a large portion of his wealth to setting up a Foundation to foster medical research in the field of eyesight. Located at the foundation’s Centre for the Unknown, near the mouth of the Tagus, the Darwin’s Café probably has the most impressive riverside terrace in town.

Owned by Antonio and Viviane, a Portuguese-Belgian duo, A Travessa has kept its allure and charm for over two decades. Located in an old convent in the heart of traditional Madragoa, the restaurant attracts a mixed crowd of local jet-setters and foreigners who come for the comfort food and great service.
The JNcQUOI brand is a recent addition to the Lisbon food scene, offering several very sophisticated outlets on Avenida da Liberdade. These include a Portuguese restaurant, a deli-bar, an Asian restaurant (and concept store) and soon also a boutique hotel.

Casa Independente is one of those places that are proof of Lisbon’s diversity. The bar is located on the first floor of an extravagant building on the Intendente square, formerly a no-go zone because of the illegal activities that went on around there.
Bicaense is a Lisbon icon and has brought a taste of nightlife to the very traditional and authentic Bica neighbourhood, where the funicular runs along a steep slope lined with locals’ homes, small shops and restaurants. Famous for its easy-going atmosphere and its cultural programming (live music, DJs, movie screenings), this is a true gem in the city.
109 SANTOS Santos ➂
Santos is a vibrant nightlife quarter, especially popular with local youngsters, who meet up in the bars and cafes of this area before going out to party in the nearby discos of Avenida 24 de Julho, Docas, or Cais do Sodré. On weekend nights the sidewalks are full of people having fun.

Topo is the brainchild of a group of local entrepreneur friends who decided to renovate the abandoned top floor of a decaying shopping centre on the up-and-coming square of Martim Moniz. They created a venue where hip locals gather for a drink and a bite, while enjoying the amazing view of the old city and the castle. A sister venue has opened in Chiado.

Torre de Belém (a World Heritage Site) is unarguably the most beautiful historical prison facility in the world, even if it was originally built (in 1515) for the military defence of the city. It’s Lisbon’s most significant landmark, an icon of the city and of Portugal as well.
Lisbon’s historical central station, built in the palatial neo-Manueline style, is probably one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world. The renovations have given it back all its grandeur, while creating spaces for offices, restaurants and a hostel.
The dramatic ruins of the Gothic Carmo Convent are one the few visible reminders of the daunting 1st November 1755, when a gigantic earthquake and tsunami virtually destroyed the city. The convent church stood ground but lost its roof, which was never replaced.
Lisbon’s Sé cathedral, built in the 1100s, is the city’s finest remaining example of the Romanesque architectural style. With defensive towers and battlements it looks more like a castle than a church. It holds a myriad of treasures, including royal tombs, a famous nativity scene and a Gothic period cloister.
