HILLENBERG Humlegårdsgatan 14 Östermalm ➁ +46 (0)8 519 421 53 hillenberg.se

A large part of the interior of modern brasserie Luzette, in the heart of the bustling central station, which dates from 1871, has been preserved as is. Designer Jonas Bohlin decorated it with mainly Swedish materials like limestone tiles, brass, wooden details and of course, his iconic ceiling lamps for Örsjö in a unique, cobalt blue version. When Matbaren opened in 2007, British Studioilse was commissioned to create the interior. More than a decade later, the decoration is still inspiring due to its mix of Scandinavian heritage and modern, global influences. Swedish primitive pieces from the 1700s are combined with contemporary lamps and furniture. Hillenberg has a mature vibe combining good food with good architecture. The wave-shaped room separators in blasted aluminium and the patterned marble floor designed by Okidoki! Arkitekter are just two of its eye-catching features.

PARADEN Valhallavägen 147 Östermalm ➁ +46 (0)8 660 33 55 paradenkvarterskrog.com
The splendid, continental interior at Nosh and Chow is the work of Catalonian architect Lázaro Rosa Violán. You will not find anything like it anywhere in Stockholm. This place is liberating, bohemian and extravagant, with a design aesthetic that is far removed from the typical Swedish design language. Tip: check out the interior of the bathroom. The former Paraden cinema has had a new lease on life. Since 2016, the original architecture in the typical functionalist style has been revamped, adding art deco touches, and the films have been replaced with great food and beverages. Share some snacks or enjoy a three-course dinner in an interior with geometric patterns, shiny metal and petrol blue walls.

Christoffer Broman and his team enchant the locals with wonderfully wild bouquets and styled flowers for the fashion industry. It all started in the early 2000s with a miniature shop in a narrow alley in Old Town where Christoffer himself still creates his natural arrangements. Makalösa Blommor has a loyal fanbase in the neighbourhood on the border between Östermalm and Vasastan. This tiny luxurious shop offers a great, classic range. Romantic, farmhouse-chic bouquets with amazing roses, big peonies and dense petals in warm, pink colours and creamy white are their specialty. The Gullvivan greenhouse is located just after the bridge to Lidingö and entering feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The couple behind Gullvivan, Olivera and Kristian, host workshops throughout the year so you can learn to create your own floral arrangements.

This lush, centrally-located oasis specialises in creating beautifully unruly, sprawling bouquets with seasonal flowers. The shop’s interior is also inspiring and they have a cute selection of delicate ceramics, handmade cards and botanical beauty products, making this a good spot to pick up last-minute gifts. Locals would probably prefer to keep this deliciously pretty florist a secret. Since 1992, Bladverket in Nytorgsgatan has created brilliant bunches of blooms. The variety is huge here, with bridal bouquets and corsages to table decorations and wreaths. The number of returning customers speaks for itself.

TAMBUR Folkungagatan 85 Södermalm ➄ +46 (0)8 704 28 20 tamburstore.se
132
The story of Betonggruvan started in 2011 when Josefine Halfwordson moulded her first concrete tables and started to sell them. Today the shop sells a lot more than furniture, and the common denominator is that every item should be functional, timeless and become more beautiful over time. Tambur is run by designer Anders Widegren and photographer and stylist Sebastian Bergström. Tambur means 'hallway' in Swedish and the store reminds you of entering someones home — with the exception that the nice selection of homeware, cleaning gadgets and kitchen supplies is up for grabs.

Traditional hinges, switches in bakelite, retro enamel kitchenware… Byggfabriken has everything you might need for your building project. Even though you are not renovating anything at the moment, this shop is worth a visit. You can always find a pretty soap or an interesting book. After visiting Iris Hantverk, you will not want to use anything else than these Swedish handmade brushes. Since 1870, this small manufacturer has specialised in the craft of producing different types of brushes. Besides their own brush range and kitchen textiles, this shop also sells products for baking, cooking, cleaning and decorating. Norrgavel is a Swedish company that sells environment-friendly furniture and Scandinavian tableware, textiles, lamps, rugs and homeware. Their bright store next to Humlegården is a former theatre and has retained much of its character with the arched cassette roof, high ceiling and beautiful materials.

A 500-metre-long walking path winds up its way up to the top of Mariaberget, offering views across Lake Mälaren, to the City Hall and beyond. The street is named after the historian and archaeologist Oscar Montelius who lived nearby all his life. Enjoy the vista from one of the benches along the way. Located just a few steps away from the vibrant main shopping drag, Observatorielunden is the perfect hideaway for a mid-shopping break. The lush park and its old observatory from the 1700s sit on top of a hill, with astonishing views over Vasastan’s rooftops and the City Library on its fringe. Skinnarviksberget is a favourite spot with locals. Rising 53 metres above sea level, it is the highest natural viewpoint in town. As you are walking on a mountain surface, suitable shoes are recommended. Come here at sunrise or sunset when the sky turns purple.

FJÄLLGATAN Södermalm ➄
Inaugurated in 1935, Västerbron became the second stationary link between the southern and northern parts of Stockholm. The bridge has been referenced in Swedish culture in novels, songs and pictures for album covers and music videos and the view over Riddarfjärden makes it a very popular spot for watching the New Year's Eve fireworks. Picturesque Fjällgatan is surrounded by cute wooden houses from the 1700s on one side and an amazing view over Djurgården, Skeppsholmen, the Old Town and the city’s inlet on the other. There are several benches and a cafe to enjoy a coffee break perched on what feels like the top of Stockholm.
