Comrade Sisters Women of the Black Panther Party Photographs by Stephen Shames, Text by Ericka Huggins, Foreword by Angela Davis Many people have heard of the Black Panther Party. Some know the Party’s history as a movement for the social, political, economic, and spiritual upliftment of people of colour – but few know the story of the Party’s backbone: the women. It’s estimated that six out of ten Panther Party members were women. While these remarkable women of all ages and diverse backgrounds were making headlines agitating, protesting, and organising, off-stage these same women were building communities, providing food, housing, education, healthcare, and more. Comrade Sisters is their story. The photos are by Stephen Shames, who at the time was a 20-yearold college student at Berkeley. Completely trusted by the BPP, Shames took intimate, behind-the-scenes photographs that fully portrayed Party members’ lives. Ericka Huggins was an early Party member and leader along with Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. William John Kennedy The Lost Archive: Photographs of Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana William John Kennedy Before they became two of America’s most iconic pop artists, Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana were young aspiring creatives, living in New York. There, they met and befriended William John Kennedy, who would take some of the first photographs of these artists in their career. After establishing a friendship with Robert Indiana and taking some of the first, important close-up images of him in his studio, Kennedy went on to work in a similarly creative way with Warhol. These striking images of the young Warhol and Indiana were lost for nearly 50 years before being rediscovered. The story of the re-discovery of these photographs was made into an acclaimed documentary in 2010 - Full Circle. William Kentridge Stephen Clingman

The South African artist William Kentridge Hon RA was born in Johannesburg in 1955 and lives and works there to this day. He is internationally renowned for the expressionism of his work in numerous media, among them charcoal, printmaking, sculpture and film, as well as his acclaimed theatrical and operatic productions. As elusive as it is allusive, Kentridge’s art is shaped by apartheid and grounded in the politics of the post-apartheid era, and in science, literature and history, while always maintaining space for contradiction and uncertainty. In a brilliant exposition of Kentridge’s output, Stephen Clingman, Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, undertakes a series of enquiries, of walks around the artist and his practice, through the various layers and linkages, crossings and connections of his art. As he proceeds, he considers Kentridge’s themes, explores them and proceeds by association to others. Along the way, overlaps, thought-collages, allusions and assemblages come together to create a connective, dimensional way of thinking inspired by Kentridge’s own habits of creation.

Queer St Ives and Other Stories Ian Massey This first ever queer history of St Ives. At its centre is the sculptor John Milne (1931–1978), who arrived in the town in 1952 to work as an assistant to Barbara Hepworth. Faithful Friends Norman Rockwell and His Dogs Margaret Rockwell From the very beginning of Norman Rockwell’s career, dogs were integral to his art.
