Style in country
design can be interpreted in
many different ways.
A person’s place of birth and life experience can determine their view on the subject. It can differ because of the landscape, language, culture, religious beliefs, and the various arts and crafts movements of the past.
It seems that there is a common thread, however. True country style to me is usually based on an authentic quality. Real materials, natural and unaffected, handcrafted into useful objects, furnishings and architecture. It is a wholesome, genuine approach to design—simple, practical and uncomplicated.

Justin Bishop is
passionate about timeless,
traditional design and decoration. His personal design principles echo an age before modern machine technology and mass production. An age of well-loved, enduring classics and comforting time-honoured style.
He was raised at historic “Pigeon Bank”, his family’s ancestral home in Melbourne’s Yarra Valley, where he joined his family in the painstaking restoration of the property. During his childhood he developed an innate sense of period style and traditional craftsmanship, skills he later demonstrated while creating his first range of decorative architectural miniatures. He studied graphic design, theatre design and fine art, however it was the ‘hands on’ approach to design developed at “Pigeon Bank” that inspired him the most.
