WAND LEVEL 1

AGILE HANDS

All you need to do is train your hands until your fingers can flit about with unpredictable speed!

For this level you will need: rope coins cards

IMPROVE COORDINATION

Open your right hand, spreading your fingers wide.

Quickly repeat the sequence 5 times without making any mistakes, then switch to the other hand.

Using the tip of your thumb, tap your pinkie, ring finger, middle finger, pointer finger, and then back again.

IMPROVE CONCENTRATION

Gather seven objects with different shapes and colors.

Line them up on the table and allow yourself to memorize them for 10 seconds before covering them with a towel.

In your mind, try to remember the order in which you placed them.

Change the order of the objects and repeat the exercise.

Declare the sequence aloud and then lift the towel to check if you are correct.

WAND LEVEL 2

Abracadabra

For this level you will need: rope coins cards pencil toothpicks cups straws watch paper bills pens spoon tape corks

THE FRENCH DROP

To start, hold the coin up between the fingers and thumb of your right hand.

Let the coin drop into the palm of your right hand.

Pretend to take the coin with your left hand. REMEMBER, ONLY PRETEND!

Make the coin “reappear” behind someone’s ear, in a pocket, etc...

Pretend you are now holding the coin in your left hand when it is actually in the palm of your right hand. Keep your movements natural as you pull your hands apart.

TIPS AND TRICKS

HENRY BROWN

(1815-1897)

BORN AS A SLAVE IN THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES.

His astonishing escape from slavery involved locking himself up in a wooden box for over 27 hours so he could be mailed to the North. Finally free, he became an activist for the abolition of slavery and moved to England. To support himself, he joined a traveling circus and began performing escape tricks reminiscent of when he escaped slavery in a box, which earned him the nickname “Henry Box”. He later earned a living by creating his own show called “Mesmeric Entertainment”.

MESMERISM WAS AN 18TH-CENTURY THEORY, WITHOUT ANY SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION, THAT PEOPLE COULD BE MEDICALLY CURED BY A NATURAL MAGNETIC FORCE. THESE THEORIES MUTATED INTO A THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE IN WHICH MEN AND WOMEN BECAME HYPNOTIZED BY A “MESMERIST”.

THE COIN OUT OF THIN AIR 2

Before introducing yourself to the audience, place a coin at the base of your middle and ring fingers and close your hand slightly to hide it.

Present your trick to the audience by explaining that you will make a coin appear out of thin air. Show the backs of your hands and partially bent fingers, then make movements with your thumb and pointer finger as if trying to pull a coin out of thin air.

YOU WILL NEED:

Cover the two fingers with the back of your hand as they grip the coin and then magically make it appear.

Move the thumb and pointer finger of the hand without the coin toward the palm with the coin.

lTHE COI N THROUGH THE GLASS

Hide a coin in the palm of your hand and use the same hand to hold a transparent glass by its rim.

With your free hand, hold the second coin between your thumb and pointer finger, then close it in your fist.

Announce that you will now pass a coin through the glass, showing a second coin in your other hand.

Tap the bottom of the glass on your closed fist three times. On the fourth tap, drop the hidden coin from your palm into the glass.

PRACTICE HOLDING THE COIN IN YOUR SEMI-OPEN PALM UNTIL YOU CAN PERFORM THIS TRICK FLAWLESSLY.

THE BALL IN THE GLASS

Place a light ball on the table.

Use a glass cup with a stem to cover the ball.

Move the glass around in a circle, faster and faster, to make the ball spin around the rim.

Soon, the ball will rise up the sides of the glass so you can slowly pull it away from the table. Keep the glass moving in the air and show how the ball continues spinning without falling out!

MATERIALS

1 LARGE SHEET OF BLACK CONSTRUCTION PAPER - 1 SEWING TAPE MEASURE 1 WHITE CRAYON- SCISSORS- STAPLER- PAPER GLUE

MEASURE THE SIZE OF YOUR HEAD, THEN DRAW AN EQUALLY SIZED CIRCLE ON THE CONSTRUCTION PAPER WITH A COMPASS AND TRACE IT WITH THE WHITE CRAYON.

INSIDE THAT CIRCLE, DRAW ANOTHER CIRCLE ABOUT 1 INCH (3 CM) SMALLER AND TRACE IT IN WHITE, ADDING FOUR TRIANGLES INSIDE.

DRAW A SEPARATE CIRCLE WITH THE COMPASS, THE SAME SIZE AS THE INNER CIRCLE, THEN TRACE IT IN WHITE WITH ANOTHER 4 TRIANGLES AROUND THE OUTSIDE.

CUT AROUND THE LARGE CIRCLE AND THEN CUT OUT THE INNER CIRCLE, TAKING CARE TO LEAVE THE TRIANGLES ATTACHED. BEND THE TRIANGLES UP.

CUT OUT THE SMALL CIRCLE WITH THE TRIANGLES, THEN FOLD THEM INWARDS.

NOW CUT A LONG STRIP OF CONSTRUCTION PAPER 8 INCHES (20 CM) WIDE AND ROLL IT UNTIL IT REACHES THE SAME SIZE AS THE INNER CIRCLE OF THE HAT, THEN FASTEN IT WITH THE STAPLER.

SPREAD GLUE ON THE TRIANGLES OF THE LARGER CIRCLE AND STICK THEM INTO THE CARDBOARD TUBE.

SPREAD GLUE ON THE TRIANGLES OF THE SMALLER CIRCLE, THEN PLACE IT ON TOP OF THE HAT, STICKING THEM TO THE INSIDE OF THE TUBE.
