FOREWORD

When I was asked to write this foreword I was honored. Having known Anne for over ten years we have worked together on countless projects, including another book that we created together after 9/11. I have much respect for Anne and her images and am always encouraged by her energy and enthusiasm for everything she does. Anne’s unique sense of fashion is pervasive and apparent within the imagery found in this book. Fashion is where you find it, provided you are receptive to its ever presence in everyday life. I have traveled the globe with Anne and feel that she captures the true essence of beauty in her imagery far from mainstream media from the deserts of Boliva to the waters of the Ganges River! Only certain people have the ability and vision to recognize the intricacies and details of fashion when encountered in very rural settings and I feel she has captured those moment perfectly in this book. The art of photography has evolved tremendously over the past one hundred years, from hiding under a black veil to taking a single frame, to the present day where pictures are hardly ever taken with film but rather, digitized and immediately viewable to the photographer. This has set in motion a sequence of events that encourages us to move faster, become more productive and to move on to the next item on the agenda of life. Sadly, the speed with which we move many times prevents us from taking the time to look at the current picture from a different perspective; more often, it is what happens at the periphery of that moment in time that we miss the beauty that resides there. In this book fashion shines in its most primitive form. Anne’s ability to capture the natural beauty of her subjects going about their daily lives or enhanced by different situations in which a story is developed continues to inspire me. Her lens brings us past the photo itself and discovers a deeper beauty that exists in every moment. Experiencing the different cultures in their natural environs has inspired her to see the world beautifully, and to share it with us one image at a time. TOMMY HILFIGER
