Classic Mansion Antwerp This urban mansion in eclectic style is one of the listed monumental homes in the Zurenborg district (Berchem, Antwerp) since 1984. Four years earlier, the Zurenborg neighborhood had been protected as a cityscape. This stately house, built in 1893 by Bilmeyer and Van Riel Architects, has now been renovated by Vlassak-Verhulst, trendsetter and market leader in exclusive villa construction. In the past 50 years, the company from ‘s-Gravenwezel has realized more than 1000 new-build homes in classic and contemporary style, and has also increasingly specialized in high-end (total) renovations. Maxime Verhulst, head of the family business Vlassak-Verhulst for 17 years now, lives in this home with its beautiful garden and is very satisfied with the result of this thorough renovation. The facade has been restored, but inside this is a new construction home with all latest techniques and materials, while respecting the authentic elements. This harmonious mix of a classic base and a more contemporary style for individual features (furniture, lighting, ...) is typical of Vlassak-Verhulst. The four-metre high ceilings stand out, which, in combination with the recently renewed windows, provides a light and spacious atmosphere on the ground floor. The old parquet was replaced by new burnt oak wooden floors. All cabinets are sandblasted and stained in a dark colour. Furthermore, numerous details have been meticulously worked out. The kitchen unit with the rounded corners, finished with marble and bronze, is the eye-catcher in the open kitchen. The partially recessed basement has been transformed into a special wellness area with a beautiful fitness and a sauna with a view of the garden, designed with the use of natural stone and dark-stained wood. The floors, walls and ceilings in this basement are finished with warm grey microcement. The whole looks masculine, but is at the same time intimate and cozy. This unique project illustrates that Vlassak-Verhulst is now also a leader in high-quality renovations, with a continuous focus on quality and sustainability - the “raison d’être” of the exclusive building and renovation company for 5 decades now.
