The Beauty of Ukraine Landscape Photography Yevhen Samuchenko, Lucia Bondar On 24 February 2022, the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops began. Since then, Russia’s war of aggression has continued with increasing ferocity and destruction. Millions of Ukrainians have fled to neighboring European countries. This is a picture book about a landscape and its country, which is going through dark times and is currently moving the whole world. Here we take a look at the beauty and the integrity of Ukraine. The Ukrainian landscape is characterized by steppes, plateaus, lowlands and mountains. The Lemurian Lake in the south of Ukraine impresses with its pink color, as it has a higher salt content than the Dead Sea. The mountain ranges of the Carpathians in the west of Ukraine captivate with their wonderful wild beauty. The Ukrainian steppe is part of the great Eurasian steppe, which runs through several countries of Eastern Europe and used to be the home of the Cossacks. The country is also criss-crossed by numerous river courses, with the Dnieper, Donets and Dniester rivers, which flow into the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, being among the most significant. Unparalleled scale, out-of-this-world colors and unique landscape shots from above make this book a tribute to the beauty of the Ukrainian landscape.

Comrade Sisters Women of the Black Panther Party Photographs by Stephen Shames, text by Ericka Huggins Many people have heard of the Black Panther Party. Some know the Party’s history as a movement for the social, political, economic, and spiritual upliftment of people of color – but few know the story of the Party’s backbone: the women. It’s estimated that six out of ten Panther Party members were women. While these remarkable women of all ages and diverse backgrounds were making headlines agitating, protesting, and organizing, off-stage these same women were building communities, providing food, housing, education, healthcare, and more. Comrade Sisters is their story. The photos are by Stephen Shames, who at the time was a 20-yearold college student at Berkeley. Completely trusted by the BPP, Shames took intimate, behind-the-scenes photographs that fully portrayed Party members’ lives. Ericka Huggins was an early Party member and leader along with Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. Her moving text shares what drew so many women to the Party and focuses on their monumental work on behalf of the most vulnerable citizens. Most importantly, the book includes contributions from over 50 former women members or their families – some well-known, others not – who vividly recall their personal experiences from that time.

NASA’s Greatest Milestones From Apollo to Artemis Bill Schwartz Foreword by Neil deGrasse Tyson NASA has worked at the forefront of space exploration and research since 1958. Their devotion to furthering our understanding of what lies beyond our atmosphere has seen 12 humans walk on the surface of the moon, helped form the International Space Station, and placed numerous rovers on Mars. Voyager 1, launched by NASA on 5 September 1977, is the furthest manmade object from earth, having left our solar system entirely – and the agency’s plans for the future are equally inspiring. This book celebrates NASA throughout the years, from its inception to its 60th anniversary in 2018, and beyond. A visual tour-de-force, the book collects high resolution NASA photos of historic significance; from rarely seen photos and the words of President John F. Kennedy commanding the space race, to the many triumphs and tragedies of the Apollo Missions, moon landings, the International Space Station, space shuttles, journeys to Mars and explorations of our galaxy’s outer reaches? These breath-taking images are complemented by heartfelt words of hope and imagination for the future, encouraging readers to admire their world from a different perspective.
A stunning coffee table book of historically significant NASA events, complemented by inspirational quotes and stories.

Ranchland Wagonhound Anouk Masson Krantz Wagonhound is a historic working ranch spanning over 300,000 acres in Wyoming, where the elevation ranges from 5,000 feet to 9,000 feet; where talented, strong, and steady quarter horses supplied by the ranchowned remuda are required to help the cowboys manage the herds in a spectacularly rugged terrain. Catherine and Art Nicholas, who took the reins of the ranch in 1999, take the stewardship of the land very seriously — their vision has been to honor tradition, preserve the land, which is steeped in history, and return it to a pristine condition. In Ranchland: Wagonhound, Anouk Krantz’s beautiful photography reveals the daily and seasonal rhythms of the ranch and the daily lives of its men and women cowboys, whose long hard days — starting in the dark and finishing in the dark — involve everything from cattle driving to branding to training the best quarter horses in the country and more. Set in a stunning largeformat book, these photographs and the stories offer an inspiring new perspective into today’s cowboy/ranching culture and land stewardship of the American West.
Anouk Masson Krantz takes a dive into the private world of Wagonhound in Wyoming, one of America’s largest working ranches, where she offers a rare window into the cowboy ranching culture of the American West. Homage to the Bird Greg Oakley Australian artist Greg Oakley has had a lifelong fascination with birds and bird art, and began photographing birds 20 years ago. In the past six years, he has worked on perfecting the difficult and exacting area of bird photography known as ‘setup’, where perches and backgrounds are meticulously crafted and designed, and lighting strictly controlled. There are sometimes hundreds of individual photographs taken and then digitally combined to create a single work. Oakley’s photographs represent a reconstructed contemporary vision of important historic artists such as Gould and Audubon. This collection of stunning artworks is a testament to the natural beauty of birds, highlighting the precarious existence of many endangered species and a reminder of the beauty we could lose. By isolating the subject into an unblemished reality, each species’ character and beauty is celebrated with empathy and understanding. The resulting images provide both a rare glimpse in stunning detail of these delicate creatures, and a poignant reminder of the tragic, impending loss of many of them due to habitat loss and climate change.
Features a beautiful selection of the compelling photographic bird portraits produced by Greg Oakley, taking our appreciation of birds to a distinctively new and unsurpassed level.

Birds Poetry in the Sky Christian Spencer The fascination birds evoke in us continues unabated. Australian artist and photographer Christian Spencer, who has lived in the vicinity of the Brazilian rainforest since 2001, has surrendered to it as well. “The camera is my brush,” is how he describes his style. His photographs truly capture the poetry of nature, letting its beauty speak for itself — which is why he forgoes any image editing. He was the first to capture the breathtakingly fast beating of hummingbirds’ wings in the sunlight, which forms a rainbow in the air. The world of birds unfolds before his lens in all its colorful glory and elegance: in reflections on the water, between blossoms and trees, and high above the treetops.
Nature as a work of art: birds in their habitat, spectacularly presented in their natural surroundings, including shots from the award-winning Winged Prism series.

Nino Cerruti Fashion Icon of the Century Cindi Cook “Fashion is balance, with a dash of theater,” was Nino Cerruti’s favorite bon mot. This monograph, the most substantial on him to date, is an entertaining and gorgeously illustrated homage to the great Italian fashion designer, whose deconstructed jackets and supple fabrics revolutionized menswear in the 1960s. He took over the family business, which his father established in 1881, at the age of 20 and immediately began to make his mark. In 1965 he opened a boutique in Paris where he launched women’s fashion, being the first designer to focus on pants (this at a time when many restaurants in Paris denied women entry if they were wearing pants). He dressed generations of movie stars, both on and off screen, including Jean-Paul Belmondo, Yves Montand, Catherine Deneuve, Richard Gere (wearing a Cerruti suit in Pretty Woman), Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas, Tom Hanks, and Kathleen Turner, among others. This book showcases the elegant nonchalance and uncompromising creativity that went into his designs and follows his career as one of the great pioneers of 20th century fashion.

Simon Hantaï Anne Baldassari On the centenary of Hantaï’s birth (1922-2008), the Foundation Louis Vuitton organizes a major retrospective exhibition of the artist’s work. French of Hungarian origin, the artist was renowned for his painting on folded fabrics, often to surprising results. The exhibition will present around 120 works from the years 1957-2000, with mostly unpublished large formats exceptionally loaned by the artist’s estate, as well as about 15 works which he donated to public institutions or from large private collections, in France or abroad. Hantaï was strongly influenced by Matisse and Pollock. An in-situ intervention by Daniel Buren will be designed as a tribute to the artist. The catalog by Anne Baldassari, curator of the exhibition, will include contributions from Zsuzsa Hantaï, Anna Hantaï, Anne Baldassari, Jean- Luc Nancy (†), and Georges DidiHuberman.

Seeing Loud, Basquiat and Music Edited by Mary-Dailey Desmarais, Dieter Buchhart, Vincent Bessières During the late 1970s and early 1980s, New York City was financially and socially bankrupt, but the art and music scene was flourishing. During these years, the downtown New York music scene – no wave, hip-hop, disco funk and club culture – shaped Jean-Michel Basquiat as both a musician and an artist. This catalog for a traveling exhibition explores how Basquiat’s painting has parallels in his music (sampling, cut-up, rapping), and takes a new look at his production as a writer and a poet in light of his connections with the then-emerging hip-hop culture. This beautifully illustrated exhibition catalog of rarely seen photographs and images sheds new light on Basquiat as a musician, exploring how his art and music are related, and how they reflect on his identity as a Black artist in the United States, the downtown New York music scene, and contemporary culture.

Minimalism in Photography The Original Edited by teNeues We live in turbulent times, which arouses a longing to pare down to the essentials in many people. The trend towards minimalism is reflected in the worlds of home living, environmental awareness, and mindfulness, to be sure, but it is also reflected in art and photography. The minimalist photographer’s eye directs the viewer’s gaze to the aesthetics of the ordinary, transforming them into something extraordinary, something inspiring. The resulting photographs always use clean lines, often arranged in geometric compositions. Minimalist artists such as Maria Svabova, Maarten Rots, Matthieu Venot, and Natalie Christensen borrow their motifs from everyday life. They can be schematic depictions of topography, or purely two-dimensional, abstract compositions. Sometimes they are detailed, sometimes large-scale. The point is always reduction.
The hottest photographs of the minimalism movement by photographers such as Maarten Rots, Matthieu Venot, and Natalie Christensen.

111 Adventures Around the World That You Must Not Miss Herbert Ypma Our memories define our lives. So we owe it to ourselves to create as many wonderful memories as we can. Travel is great at creating memories and travel adventures create the most ‘memorable’ of memories. As they say: ‘travel is the only thing we pay for that makes us richer’. The world is a big and fascinating place and affordable airfares have made it accessible for all of us. But what will you do when you get there? Will you sit on a beach or will you embark on an adventure that will enrich your life? If you prefer the latter then this book is for you. It took more than 20 years to assemble these adventures. They are not the result of online search; they were discovered the oldfashioned way: by trial and error and by luck and happenstance. The one thing they all have in common is that the author has personally experienced each adventure so there is a reliable consistency to these 111 adventures as much as there is an exotic variety.
The ultimate insider’s guide to adventures around the world. Features interesting and unusual places not found in traditional travel guides.

The book is divided into four sections: ‘A Star is Born’, which follows Audrey’s first steps into the spotlight as a doe-eyed dancer; ‘The Golden Age’, how Audrey became the muse of Hubert de Givenchy and gave Hollywood a new ideal of elegance; ‘A Diva’s Style’, which touches on Breakfast at Tiffany’s, where Holly Golighty went down in the history of cinema with her sunglasses and little black dress, along with many other of Audrey’s later film work; and ‘Saving the Children’. This final section of the book puts great emphasis on her humanitarian work as UNICEF ambassador, on the side of all the children of the world. Both on screen and in real life, Audrey has remained faithful to the elegance of understatement and kindness, hidden behind her unforgettable smile.
A beautiful book overflowing with splendid portraits and iconic images, charting the rise of the acclaimed actress and style icon Audrey Hepburn.

London Unseen Paul Anthony Scane Over the course of 15 years, native Londoner Paul Anthony Scane went out by bike and on foot to explore hidden corners of his city with 4 analog cameras and an eye for the unusual. This book, which is devoid of the usual tourist spots, shines a light on places and people that are not often seen: the campy drycleaner (“Go Gay”); a double decker bus appearing to manoeuvre a miniature golf course; an abandoned tank in south London. Largely in black and white, these poignant and often witty images capture the character and soul of the real London with affection and curiosity. London Unseen is a character study of a world metropolis - based on its people and streets, away from Big Ben and Trafalgar Square.
A 15-year photography project by native Londoner Paul Anthony Scane to capture the character and soul of the city with affection, humour, and curiosity.

I shoot at sunrise and at sunset to capture the best light.” - Sébastien Nagy Award-winning Brussels-based photographer Sébastien Nagy has traveled all over the world, capturing bridges, towers, houses, roads, monuments and other structures from above with his drone camera. In a spectacular series of images, he shows the architectural footprint that humans leave behind on earth. From Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and from the ‘cycling through water trail’ in Belgium to the Dubai Frame in the United Arab Emirates, Nagy invariably captures these well-known and lesser-known structures at the perfect time of day, as if they are all bathed in golden light. On Champagne A tapestry of tales to celebrate the greatest sparkling wine of all Edited by Susan Keevil, Introduction by Tom Stevenson
Drinking with the Valkyries Writings on Wine Andrew Jefford Poet, philosopher, author, radio presenter and journalist, Andrew Jefford lives in France; but buried deep in one wine country what does he miss most about the rest? The answer: “Drinking young port. It’s the wine drinker’s equivalent of zorbing, wing-walking, base-jumping … you won’t fully understand it unless you have tasted it young, in its ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ stage, when it comes hurtling out of the glass and puts the screamers on you...”
Champagne is never a simple glass of fizz… As soon as the cork flies, the first sip reveals a wine of fascinating complexity. In On Champagne the thoughts, opinions and conclusions of the world’s finest champagne writers gather to reveal this wine’s action-packed trajectory from the myth of its accidental discovery – not in France, we find, but in the cider cellars of England – to the development of a high-tech champagne fit for space travel. It’s a journey that starts and ends with capturing that sparkle in a bottle and along the way beguiles us with the nuances of its chalky terrain, the determination of rebels from Ambonnay to Avize, and the mystery of a champagne cellar under the sea.
Andrew is the ideal companion for anyone wine-curious. In this collection of his essays, opinions and articles he shares his fascinating observations from half a century of discovery. For Andrew, wine should be listened to and admired, wherever it comes from; old-school pretentions turned on their head; style-points disdained; stellar prices dismissed; questions asked...

Iranian Architecture A Visual History Sohrab Sardashti Iran, the former Persia, lies at an interface between WestEast and North-South. Several early trade routes crossed the country, connecting Asia, Africa and Europe, and the cultural wealth and scenic beauty of this region has attracted travelers for over 2,000 years. This rich past makes Iran one of the most culturally interesting countries of Asia. The art of building has a special significance here. In contrast to other fields of knowledge, visual communication is particularly important in architecture. Much cannot be fully described; it must be made visible. In his book, Sohrab Sardashti immerses us in the dreamlike world of Iranian architecture. At the beginning of the book, the history of Iranian architecture is briefly described. Then an impressive variety of buildings is presented, divided according to their different functions. Mosques, tombs, madrassas, hammams, castles, palaces and more are all covered. The text at the beginning of each chapter briefly explains the nature and history of that type of building, followed by a series of examples with a short text on each, and an abundance of photos taken especially for this book. The book allows one to experience the great diversity and fascination of Iranian architecture and is a visual treat for the reader.
A magnificent pictorial survey of the great architectural monuments of Iran, with hundreds of spectacular photos taken especially for this book, plus plans and elevations of key monuments.

Rod Penner Paintings, 1987–2022 Foreword by Louis K. Meisel, contributions by Terrie Sultan and David Anfam The abandoned and forgotten landscapes of rural southwestern towns are the favored subjects of Rod Penner’s paintings. The artist’s keen eye combines photojournalism and photorealism to create images of small-town America. His deft use of contrasts in his images — despondency and hope, isolation and nostalgia — evokes memories of The Last Picture Show and elicits complex responses from viewers. “I’m interested in the look of things and the quality of being there,” he says. “A moment that is completely frozen with all the variety of textures; rust on poles, crumbling asphalt, light hitting the grass.” Penner’s works are based on his photographs, digital video stills, and his experience of the rural landscapes of Texas and New Mexico. He depicts desolate, often deserted locations, the character of old houses and abandoned buildings, weather, and unique geography. His chosen scenes are infused with a cinematic quality that is the result of the exquisite light that he captures with his meticulous process. “The finished paintings should evoke contrasting responses of melancholy and warmth, desolation and serenity,” he says.

Gyöngy Laky Screwing with Order Edited by Tom Grotta Renowned American textile artist and sculptor Gyöngy Laky (b. 1944) was once described as a ‘wood whisperer.’ Her highly individual, puzzle-like assemblages of timber and textiles helped to significantly propel the growth of the contemporary fiber-arts movement. Laky’s art traverses an extraordinary personal story: Born amid the bombings of World War II, she escaped from post-war, Soviet-dominated Hungary; was sponsored by a family in Ohio, went to grade school in Oklahoma, and went on to study at the University of California, Berkeley. She followed this by founding the Fiberworks Center for Textile Arts in the 1970s and fostering innovations as a professor at the University of California, Davis. This book provides insight into her studio practice, activism, and teaching philosophy, which champions sustainable art and design, original thinking, and the value of the unexpected.

Arts and Crafts is Cactus Sabine Runde, Matthias Wagner K This exhibition catalog of nearly 600 pages explores the meaning of craftsmanship in the context of the outstanding collection of the Museum Angewandte Kunst (Frankfurt, Germany) in a monumental survey of 700 items dating from 1945 to the present. Scale reproductions of plates, furniture, cutlery, jewelry and vases highlight their surprising variety of form. In their essays, the ten authors take diverse approaches to the broad terrain of craftsmanship: from the relationship between East Asia and Western ceramics, via the handicrafts of the Romantic period, to the adventure that is arts and crafts today. The title plays on the perceived parallel between the ability of the cactus to survive and thrive in adverse conditions, and the future of the hand-made object in an industrial world.

AfterGlow New Nordic Porcelain Edited by Bettina Køppe, Catrine Danielsen, Andreas Rishoved
Little People Magical Creatures from Woodcut Remains Sebastian Kusenberg
AfterGlow documents the New Nordic Porcelain Forum, a project which focuses on the Nordic tradition of porcelain production. The focal point is the collaborative work of 13 ceramic artists from the Scandinavian regions, who gathered for a residency in Denmark in 2019 and in 2021 for a two-week stay in various workshops associated with porcelain production in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. This publication not only serves as an exhibition catalog, it offers insights into the important industrial and design histories of northern Europe, as well as into today’s use of porcelain as an artistic medium. In doing so, it is hoped that the production of Nordic contemporary ceramics will advance to a new collaborative practice in order to transform and therefore preserve this important cultural heritage.
Berlin-based artist Sebastian Kusenberg (b.1958) is well known for his photographic work, but he is also a sculptor, and for the past 15 years has been working on a whimsical series of small wooden figures. Romantic and quietly comical, his LITTLE PEOPLE have been constructed with cuttings and scraps from his larger wooden sculptures, bits of wood which he has not altered, but has used as they are.

Aston Martin From DB2 to DBX Serge Bellu In the world of grand touring cars, Aston Martin occupies a special place. The English firm has always distinguished itself by its restraint, by the elegance of its creations, by the discretion of its style, by a reserve rarely observed in a universe that willingly abandons itself to exuberance. This book is devoted to DB models. David Brown relaunched the brand with emblematic cars, including some models that later became legendary, like the famous DB 5 of James Bond. The Aston Martin Book Texts by Paolo Tumminelli, Photographs by René Staud One icon meets another: For true automotive enthusiasts, it was no surprise that the paths of Aston Martin and René Staud would cross at some point. The British brand’s meteoric success story began almost exactly 110 years ago. Its claim of building road-ready racing cars has always remained intact. Legendary victories at Le Mans or the Nürburgring, for example, contributed to Aston Martin’s appeal, as did the fact that Her Majesty’s secret agent, James Bond, drove the elegant, British-built DB5 as early as 1964. In this new edition of the best-selling book, multiple award-winning automotive photographer René Staud presents breath-taking new photographs of both old and present-day models — even those knowledgeable about the brand will discover stories not yet heard.
Refueled and ready to go: a completely revised and perfected new edition of the bestseller with unpublished studio photographs and updated texts, marking the 110th anniversary of the automobile manufacturer and its rich tradition. All photos: © René Staud

The Secret of Colours Ceramics in China and Europe from the 18th Century to the Present Time Text by Pauline d’Abrigeon, Antoine d’Albis, Shih ChingFei, Tang Hui, Marie Wyss This book explores the intriguing story of porcelain glaze at the end of the 18th century in China, in the 19th century in France, and in the work of two 20th century ceramic artists. Part one investigates the development of opaque glazes for use on porcelain and copper during the 18th century in work from three collections. The second part begins in France, in the 19th century, at the Sèvres factory, tracing the various journeys to China to bring back samples of color and attempt to reproduce them. The catalog ends in the present, with the experiments conducted by the American-born artist Fance Franck (1927– 2008) and the work on color carried out by the Austrian ceramist Thomas Bohle.

Taming the Beast Silver by Earl Krentzin Edited by Jeannine Falino, Martha J. Fleischman Earl Krentzin (1929–2021) was a virtuoso silversmith who poured his considerable talents into figurative sculpture, creating whimsical theatrical settings in silver with a wry humor. He was an anomaly in the world of modern craft, having more in common with the 16th-century goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini than with his 20th-century peers. This first full-scale monograph on the artist offers the breadth of Krentzin’s engaging creations, which he based on his love of toys, movement, and the mechanical arts. Readers will find humor and pathos in his theatrical settings and verisimilitude in every tiny detail, set amidst the burgeoning crafts scene in Detroit. All will discover a modern master who used amusements and daydreams to unlock the imagination.

Eveli: A Jeweler’s Memoir Eveli Sabatie North African-born Eveli Sabatie had a long-time fascination with Native American culture and history. A chance encounter with a Hopi traditionalist led to an invitation to Arizona, where she apprenticed with a master Native American jewelry-maker. This book is a direct and personal exploration of Eveli’s work, following her arc of growth, challenges and internal workings. Eveli’s jewelry is entirely created by her, from gathering material to fabricating the body of the piece, doing the lapidary work and finally adding stone settings and finishings. She works in a rustic, ancient environment, often choosing to use rudimentary and home-made tools over commercial techniques.

The Style of Time Evolution of Wristwatch Design, 1900 to the Present Mara Cappelletti Time is a great mystery. A changeable element, which expands or vanishes, but that appears concrete as it is marked by the passing of seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years. The path toward the capture of minutes and seconds coincided with the phases of scientific evolution that allowed man to manufacture watches that are increasingly reliable, but that are also in tune with changes in customs, social needs, and aesthetic canons. This book covers the art of watch manufactory as well as 60 great models, covering both their technical evolution and style trends. In each chapter in-depth studies will guide the reader to the history of the most important manufacturers, the personalities linked to the models treated, technical innovations, styles of the period, or records achieved by the wristwatches: from the watch that helped Charles Lindbergh during the first transatlantic solo flight, to the one worn by Sir Edmund Hillary on the top of Mount Everest, the most iconic models will be discussed in detail.
Showcases the details and technical wonders of 60 wristwatch models that went down in history for their innovation in shapes, materials, and production methods.

Navitimer Story The Epic Saga of The Breitling Chronograph Grégoire Rossier, Anthony Marquié Navitimer: a contraction of two words, which correspond to the two major functions of a revolutionary watch: NAVIgation and TIMER. A chronograph designed for airborne navigation. From the very beginning of its existence, in 1884, Breitling specialized in time measurement, namely the design of timers and chronographs. It was in the 1930s that the foundations of a close relationship with the world of aviation and aeronautics were laid. These ties have remained unbroken ever since. In 1952, in collaboration with the AOPA, the largest aeronautical association of the time, Breitling launched the development of the Navitimer, which offered what no other watch manufacturer had ever proposed: a chronograph combined with a slide rule for aircraft pilots. The Navitimer was available only to AOPA members in 1954, and then marketed to the general public in 1955. Also available is volume 1 in the series, A Moon Watch Story, ISBN 9782940506415.

The Watch Book More than Time Volume II Gisbert L. Brunner Volume II of The Watch Book follows on the successful and comprehensive earlier volume with a magnificently illustrated book about the additional functions and refinements of wristwatches. For centuries, so-called “complications” - any feature of a mechanical timepiece beyond the display of hours, minutes and seconds - have embodied the crowning glory of fine mechanical watchmaking. Among the earliest of these are alarm clocks and calendar movements. Moon phase displays have also been known for several centuries. Striking movements can be considered among the most complex and technically elaborate additional functions, while finishing techniques such as skeletonizing, which is mainly done by hand, also characterize the high art of watchmaking. Topics covered in this book include: Hands and numerals; Spring; Astronomical display (moon phases etc.); Tides; Double balance; Alarm clock; Altitude/depth measurement; Skeletonisation. Diana: A Life in Dresses From Debutante to Style Icon Claudia Joseph “I literally had one long dress, one silk shirt, one smart pair of shoes and that was it” – so Princess Diana said of the day she and Prince Charles got engaged. Sixteen years later, Diana would pass away, no longer the girl with one dress, but a global fashion icon who had raised more than £2 million for charity by selling 79 of her dresses at Christie’s auction house in New York. This chic and stylish book opens Diana’s wardrobe to the world. From the Regamus debutante’s dress Diana wore at a ball at Althorp, her family estate, to her infamous Christina Stambolian ‘Revenge’ dress, which she wore on the night Prince Charles publicly admitted his adultery with Camilla Parker Bowles, each iconic moment is captured in these pages. Claudia Joseph chronicles Diana’s style evolution from the days she shopped with her mother for her wedding trousseau at Harrods, to her discovery of her wedding dress designers, the Emanuels, and her relationship with Vogue fashion director Anna Harvey, who introduced her to designers such as Catherine Walker, Jacques Azagury and Versace. She looks at the designers who shaped Diana’s image and tracks down her most symbolic dresses to museums around the world.
This beautiful survey of Princess Diana’s fashion and the evolution of her style collects Diana’s most famous (and infamous) outfits.

The Lifethread Paracas Textiles and Culture Kerstin Paradis Gustafsson
Pull of the Thread Textile Travels of a Generation Sheila Fruman
Suzani Art of the Silk Road Christian Erber, Penny Oakley, Markus Voigt
This book documents a collection of approximately 90 Paracas textiles. The collection consists of cloaks, ponchos, tunics, as well as some smaller fragments such as ribbons. Paracas textiles tell the story of the people living in Peru more than 2000 years ago and how they saw and viewed the world. In cultures without a written language imagery is very important. The makers of the Paracas textiles depict fantastic stories from their time and culture about creation, death and thoughts about life. Kerstin Paradis Gustafsson has studied, inventoried and analyzed the Paracas textiles for decades, and cracked codes about how they were made. In this text, Kerstin documents and explains the secret behind these fantastic 2000-year-old textiles.
Sheila Fruman, fascinated by the textiles and handmade carpets she saw when she traveled overland in 1969 from Turkey to India, tells the stories of nine intrepid adventurers who have combed the streets and bazaars of Central and South Asia finding, researching, collecting and selling textile treasures to interested Westerners. With over 200 color illustrations, the book shows how the indigenous designs and motifs popularized in the US and Europe by these textile travelers can now be found in anything from haute couture to high-end interior design to mass-marketed bedding, tableware and clothing. The dealers and collectors have intriguing stories to tell and collections of some of the finest textiles of their kind in the world.
Suzanis, the exquisite hand-embroidered panels from Central Asia, have captured the hearts and minds of collectors and decorators for many years. While today they adorn the walls of museums and can be spotted in homes designed by interior designers such as Robert Kime and Beata Heuman, not much is known about their history. This book sets out to change that. Through the lens of one of the best collections of suzanis in the world, we delve into the history of Central Asia and understand more about the women who painstakingly stitched these works of art. A true delight for all who have experienced the magic of the suzani, this publication pairs beautiful visuals with engaging new research.

When lifestyle journalist Joni Vandewalle’s daughter was born she was disappointed to discover that in most home styling magazines children’s rooms and play areas are expertly concealed. The Nansen Photographs Geir O. Kløver In the late 19th century, the Norwegian Artic explorer Fridtjof Nansen undertook a pioneering expedition: he wanted to reach the North Pole with the specially designed ship Fram. The Nansen Photographs recounts this expedition, from the launch in 1890 through to the end of Nansen’s international lecture tour in 1897, using original photographs alongside personal diary entries from Nansen and seven of his crew members. Together, they illustrate in a poignant and sometimes disconcerting way the expedition members went about their daily lives and conducted their research, the conflicts they faced, and how they ultimately brought their daring undertaking to its successful conclusion. This book brings new life to previously known facts and introduces the reader to hundreds of previously unknown photographs from the expedition.

Living With Volcanoes Cris Toala Olivares
Deserted In Pursuit of Drylands Rucksack Magazine
Documentary photographer Cris Toala Olivares experienced the enormous forces emanating from the core of a volcano during the 2014 eruption of the volcano Tungurahua in Ecuador. People who had lived on the fertile flanks for generations were forced to leave, something they did only with great reluctance despite the looming danger. Toala Olivares decided to delve deeper into the different relationships that people all over the world have with volcanoes. He visited 13 volcanoes, from Iceland to Indonesia, and has captured them in stunning photographs accompanied by interviews with the people who live there.
Rucksack Magazine presents Deserted: In Pursuit of Drylands. Featuring stunning photography and essays about the world’s most amazing deserts, including the Moab, the Atacama, Mojave, and the Namib deserts. In these pages we are introduced to landscapes so vast that time and space are rendered meaningless. The desert lies bare — sparse and silent in the heavy stillness of the day — a wilderness that retains a veil of mystery despite contemplation and obsession. This book explores the gentle fragility of these ancient landscapes, places that somehow manage to be both remote and yet strangely intimate.

Terra Maxima The Atlas of Superlatives Edited by Monaco Books
Maps that Made History 1000 Years of World History in 100 Old Maps Martijn Storms
If the termite were a human, its structures would be twice as high as Mount Etna in Sicily... Our world is full of wonders and they are all waiting to be discovered! Nature’s many different habitats are home to countless animal and plant species records – superlatives which at times we only become aware of when we compare them with human achievements. In the air, we follow the flight of the largest, fastest and most resilient birds, while in the seas, we encounter huge whales and fish – and it can all be recorded in numbers and statistics, yet the true achievements of the sea giants and why they don’t sink are easier to understand if we take a close look at the technical data for ships and submarines...
Maps that Made History is like a 1000-year-long journey around the world; every one of the carefully selected maps featured here has influenced the course of history in some way. This beautifully illustrated book gathers 100 marvelous old maps, each with a fascinating story to tell, from a 12th century Persian world atlas to a Soviet spy map. These maps were used to resolve conflicts, situate battles, construct a road or a canal, establish important shipping routes, even as propaganda tools. All the maps are reproduced in an oversized format, while accompanying text from an experienced team of historians explains the importance of each one.

There, they met and befriended William John Kennedy, who would take some of the first photographs of these artists in their career. After establishing a friendship with Robert Indiana and taking some of the first, important close-up images of him in his studio, Kennedy went on to work in a similarly creative way with Warhol. These striking images of the young Warhol and Indiana were lost for nearly 50 years before being rediscovered. They were presented in the Before they were Famous exhibiton. William John Kennedy: The Lost Archive: Photographs of Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana will be the first of William John Kennedy’s books devoted solely to the time he spent with Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana.

Eye-D Anna Gabriel It is said that the eyes are a window to the soul. They are what we first look at when we meet a stranger, and one of the most expressive parts of the human body. The eye speaks an intricate language, one that cannot be heard, only felt. The size of the pupil can signify focus or arousal. We meet each other’s eyes to show attentive interest, yet often feel discomfort when stared at: an evolutionary trait designed to alert us to a predatory gaze. This book is a testament to the power of the human eye. It gathers together Anna Gabriel’s collection of photographs, showing the close-up eyes of numerous well-known rock and film stars, including David Byrne, Helena Christensen, Willem Defoe, The Edge, Noel Gallagher, Annie Lennox, Susan Sarandon, Benjamin Zephaniah, Peter Gabriel and many more.

Multiple Exposures Allen Jones & Photography Allen Jones, Philippe Garner Multiple Exposures – Allen Jones & Photography explores the numerous ways in which artist Allen Jones has engaged with the possibilities of this medium. This volume – an important addition to the literature on Jones’s oeuvre – reveals how he was first drawn as a student to the camera’s potential, making his earliest experiments in black and white. Through the sixty-plus years of Jones’s career – using camera and, more recently, iPad, and iPhone – photography has become ever-more integrated within his wider practice as an artist. The images in Multiple Exposures, mostly hitherto unpublished, are supported by an introductory text by Philippe Garner and by revelatory chapter introductions and pertinent pull-quotes by Allen Jones. The dynamic design of the book is by the legendary graphic artist David Hillman.

Ardelle Schneider Butterflies and Caterpillars Ardelle Schneider Ardelle Schneider’s photographic project Butterflies and Caterpillars offers first-hand impressions of the current drag scene in the United States. Her photos address issues such as the meaning of identity and the construction of a self that goes beyond gender-specific roles and their constraints. Schneider accompanied her subjects in their everyday lives over a long period, capturing private moments and public performances alike. She observed their transformation and dual nature as their self-presentation and selfimage repeatedly collide with society’s expectations. In her intimate, sensitive photographs, Schneider brings out the nuances and complexities of the personalities hidden behind the garish masquerade. Her keen intuition and carefully tuned lighting allowed her to create images that ooze warmth, dignity, and power. This book is a monument to acceptance and mutual respect.

Photomachinées Antoine Gentil, Lucas Reitalov This catalog for an exhibition at the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne brings together an ensemble of found images gathered over the course of several years by gallerist Antoine Gentil and collector Lucas Reitalov. By dint of patience and research they found photographs that had been modified, often by simple (but telling) cut-outs, in addition to more complex images where the original photograph becomes part of a different story. These anonymous photographs date from the late 19th century onwards, and capture the inconspicuous person that one might encounter in a flea market or a secondhand store, along with family photographs that have been condemned to oblivion and are laden with mystery and emotion.

What News of the Snake That Lost its Heart in the Fire Snakefire Arko Datto In a series of color-saturated, dream-like, hallucinatory images taken at night, this second book in a trilogy by Kolkata-based photographer Arko Datto explores the shifting world of nature, society, and politics in Malaysia and Indonesia. Over the course of four years, he has captured both people and animals in confrontation with the changing urban environments they live in, with the subtext of the politics that made this change possible. In a place that used to be considered a tropical paradise, over- development and property speculation have forced residents out and have created deserts of empty real estate where neither locals nor animal life can thrive. SNAKEFIRE is dedicated to this paradise that has been lost to unmediated human greed and ponders the costs of untrammelled consumption.

Obsession Dietrich Edouard Taufenbach, Bastien Pourtout It was during a chance meeting with the collector Pierre Passebon and French photographers Édouard Taufenbach and Bastien Pourtout that the idea of a commission was born: to tell a story within the story of Passebon’s stellar collection of over 500 vintage photographs of Marlène Dietrich. Taufenbach and Pourtout have developed - using their iPhones - a new form of photomontage based on the instantaneous nature of Instagram and the possibility of communicating images remotely. In real time, they mix elements of the photographs; editing, splicing, juxtaposing, and reassembling them. These transformed images of one of the most alluring stars of cinema are a meditation on beauty, fame, and the nature of obsession.

No Signal: Living in the Heart of Nature. Ten Portraits Brice Portolano
The Female Lens Prix Pictet, Fiona Shields
Between 2015 and 2020, photographer Brice Portolano traveled from the islands of Alaska to the Patagonian steppe and from the forests of Lapland to the highlands of Iran to capture the daily lives of 10 extraordinary people who made profound changes in their lives in order to live closer to nature. These photographs present the joys of finding one’s place in the world and the challenges of living off the grid, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, usually without a phone signal or internet access.
This edition of Prix Pictet focuses on two issues that share an urgency that is virtually impossible to outdo: the fight for gender equality and the quest to live sustainably. Fiona Shields, Head of Photography at The Guardian, has compiled works by about 50 female fine art photographers, illustrating the vast range of the ‘female lens.’ These visual masterpieces are accompanied by three essays penned by women who have forged a place for themselves in the world of art and photography.

The Stars’ Share / La part des étoiles Gérard-Philippe Mabillard
All the Happiness in the World How People Live in the 30 Happiest Countries in the World Edited by Monaco Books
Sir Paul Smith, with a wry grin. Javier Bardem, utterly relaxed. Chef Rasmus Kofoed, atop an ivy-covered wall. What all these portraits have in common is a glass. For this is how GérardPhilippe Mabillard photographs his friends and acquaintances, all celebrities from the world of film, art, fashion, design, and culture. For him, the glass, filled with wine or water, is the link between the people he portrays. Through his photography project, Mabillard is supporting the NGO Fondation Moi pour Toit in Colombia.
Everyone strives for happiness – Aristotle already knew that. But what exactly is happiness? And can you measure it? A journey to the 30 happiest countries in the world brings this abstract topic closer to the reader. We look at happiness from three different perspectives. Based on the World Happiness Report, a scientific report commissioned by the WHO which ranks countries according to people’s life satisfaction, the book presents the 30 happiest countries. Authors and local heroes tell us how they experience their own happiness in each respective country. Photography

Bangkok Street Art and Graffiti Rupert Mann Documenting an alternative history and social commentary by Bangkok’s graffiti and street artists, this insightful and thought-provoking book offers fresh insight into Thai subcultures. Not given a platform elsewhere, street art and graffiti gives artists the opportunity to protest the social injustices they encounter. Through their art, they speak out against dictators and the political elite, as well as the extensive gentrification sweeping Bangkok. In addition, this book is the only visual record of (what was sarcastically named) “Thailand’s Stonehenge”: standing pillars covered in graffiti along the abandoned Hopewell elevated rail line that was supposed to link the city to the airport, a $3 billion dollar project begun in 1990 and mired in corruption.

The Apple is Everything Barnaby Barford
Human Playground Why We Play Hannelore Vandenbussche
In mythology, art history and religious iconography, the apple has been imbued with every imaginable human desire. It has been a symbol of love and beauty, of temptation, of immortality, peace, death and poison, of sin and redemption. From Adam and Eve to the trials of Heracles, to the art of Cézanne and Magritte, to Newton’s theory of gravity, the death of Alan Turing and the growth of Steve Jobs, the apple resonates throughout western culture. It is Snow White, William Tell, it is The Beatles and the Viking gods, it is even the American frontier. Now, Barnaby Barford offers a celebration of this fruit, exploring its impact on the history of humankind. Apples have become a recent feature of Barford’s eye-catching installations, whether ripe and healthy or in a state of decay.
Why do we play games? That is the question Belgian photographer Hannelore Vandenbussche decided to explore, traveling to numerous countries to roam the world of sports, passion, athletic competition, transition, and emancipation. The athletes she portrays keep old traditions alive or carve out new territory and celebrate with boisterous parties centered around their games. Meet Buzkashi players astride their horses in Central Asia, Donga stick fighters in Ethiopia, Tarahumara runners in Mexico, big wave surfers in Nazaré,and many other athletes in these unusual sports. These unique photographs capture athletes from both indigenous cultures in remote parts of the globe and from familiar, Western cultures. Human Playground showcases a hugely diverse range of sports from places as far-flung as Mongolia and Madagascar, from jockeys in Dubai to land divers in Vanuatu.

Life in Plastik Eli Rezkallah “Plastik’s gift to the world is beauty, colour, magic and imagination. The gift is more important today than ever before.” RuPaul Beirut born and based visual artist and creative director Eli Rezkallah founded the visual arts magazine Plastik in 2009. It was unlike anything that had been produced in the Middle East previously, with photographs of drag queens, nudity, bold color, dramatic staging, and cuttingedge visual stories by himself and other artists. In addition to the magazine, Plastik is now a studio, a gallery, and a social media presence. This book is a bestof celebration of Eli Rezkallah’s work from Plastik, capturing his accessible, provocative, and socially astute work in a single volume.
