A Multi Brand Approach

4

The creative driving force within architectural lighting Light creates an identity, it reveals the space and creates an emotional connection to it. The emotional connection we feel is created by the lit effect, defining the identity of a hotel, the taste of a space. We make the normal interesting We make icons iconic We make the exciting amazing And the impressive unbelievable We are acdc. We can’t wait to get creative with you.

HOSPITALITY LIGHTING SOLUTIONS

5

Creating Solutions On approaching an application within the hospitality sector, acdc take into account 6 key considerations; The Brand, Place, People, Position, Product and the Payback.

The Brand

The guest emotion the hotel brand wants to evoke, what is that feeling and what kind of atmosphere do they want to create.

Place

What’s the context, are there points of interest that the guests should be drawn towards, what colours and textures already exist in the space they’re looking to light.

People

Who are the guests, how will they use the space and when as part of their journey. Keep it simple, keep it personal.

6

“With the extended lifetime offered by the LED lightsource, the hotel is able to enjoy large-scale energy saving benefits and a much faster return on initial investment

Position

Where is the brand positioned in their market and what are their expectations regarding budget.

Product

A single product can make the room look and feel different as day turns into night. It is important to offer a product which can seamlessly integrate into the space as well as responding to the brand through quality and reliability.

Payback

What can our solution offer in terms of efficiency and maintenance and do these fit within the scope of the project.

7

OUTDOOR FACADE Stand out from the crowd

8

Holiday Inn - Singapore

The illumination of buildings creates people’s nightscapes drawing their attention to the space whilst aiding orientation. Beautiful facade lighting can evoke emotion and intrigue encouraging visitors to enjoy the space, feel at home and quickly build a relationship with their new environment and the brand. This new found place soon becomes an attractive place to live, a holiday destination or an inspiring business location.

Seamless integration of the luminaire into the façade ensures limited visual impact to the architecture by day, however by night the lighting accentuates the architectural detail bringing out the character, texture, and colour whilst amazing the passers by as the scale and size is unveiled. Bringing drama and interest to the chosen landscape.

Delta Lounge - UK

“ I chose acdc as we were impressed with the quality of the luminaires and the uniqueness of some of their products ” Tim Garlinge. MD of Melissa Electrical

The start of the experience

10

Lights In Alingsas - Sweden

“ It was essential that we had confidence in the manufacturer we chose; acdc are experienced and reliable and we knew we would get a professional service from them Ellie Coombs, PNLD

A landscape can offer guests the first experience of a hotel, bar or restaurant in the hours of darkness. Through balancing layers of integrated light within the landscape, planting and structures, the landscape can create intrigue and offer clear points of interest for visitors.

whilst creating a feeling of comfort.

The external space will vary greatly depending upon the design and location, whether it is a driveway with low ambient light providing direction, or a walkway around the landscape with the light defining the route and the perimeter,

The landscape will change over the year and careful thought should be given to how the lighting will evolve with it. Growth of the landscape may require the lighting to be moved over time to evolve with the external space.

RECEPTION

Make a lasting first impression

12

One St Peters Square - Manchester

The approach & arrival to the reception area offers guests a big hint of what’s to come during their stay and it’s here that they start to gain a real first impression of the brand. The mood is determined by the lit effect and through balancing layers of light, guest’s are offered their first taste of the space and most importantly the brand. It’s important that consideration is given to the guest’s journey as they arrive. For instance, harsh bright lights can make guests feel disorientated and uncomfortable where

as a poorly lit reception can scream a lack of care or even success of the brand. The lighting in a reception should be used to direct and guide guests as they arrive, immediately envoking a feeling of comfort and safety. Consider focusing on the desk area through the use of cove lighting. By grazing light up the vertical, the colour and texture of the wall can be picked out - creating a focal point for the guest’s arrival.

“ All lighting was supplied in the given period, and the overall effect is one to be proud of, as it befits both the customer’s brand and the location in Manchester’s city centre ” Steve Sutcliffe, 4D Lighting

LOUNGE

A space to take in the experience

14

W Hotel - Doha

“ It was a real pleasure to use acdc’s LED technology to create the atmosphere and the quality we expected ” Christophe Pillet, Architect

BMI Lounge A lounge is an area where guest’s can relax, read, meet friends or have a coffee with the family. This is a multi-use space that should evolve over the day and the use of lighting can help to create a personal yet functional feeling at specific times of the day. Architectural lighting may be combined with localised free standing or wall mounted decorative lighting to provide a comfortable, warm and cosy level of light.

AIR MINI

This open space is often amongst other public areas including the reception, bar or entrance. The lighting layout should consider this and how one space balances with another. A deliberate contrast between the spaces may be preferred to create focal points and clear destinations, or a continued lighting scheme can offer a consistent theme enforcing the brands identity.

ATRIUM

The WOW factor

16

An atrium has the ability to create a wow factor for visitors and guests. The lighting scheme can celebrate this vast space by creating a day and night time scene of light, bringing the atrium to life in the hours of darkness. This glorious space can amaze guests through a dynamic, possibly coloured lit effect drawing their attention to the height and scale of the atrium.

This area can become a central feature, somewhere to meet other guests or to simply stop and admire the space creating a talking point for guests both during and after their stay. Architectural lighting must consider the views within an atrium. Seamlessly integrating and illuminating the structure and solid elements, so as not to cause glare from above or pour light into windows ensuring the guest’s experience is not detracted.

“ It was an absolute pleasure to watch Fusion effortlessly graze up the otherwise stark white 30m high atrium providing white accent lighting within the tall, narrow windows ” Christophe Pillet, Architect

STAIRS AND CORRIDORS Keep your guests on the right track

18

Under the Bridge, Chelsea FC - UK

“ I found the warm white colour temperature of the LEDs from the acdc fittings to have one of the best CR indexes available and was perfect for the environment we were creating ” Max Conwell, Max Conwell Design.

Stairs and corridors are an essential opportunity to provide a feeling of safety in areas, which may have little to no natural lighting and are used by guest’s who may be visting the hotel for the first time and are not completely comfortable in their new surroundings. Corridors are used at all hours and daylight is often not available. Through a single or multiple layers of light balanced together the right lit effect can aid a guest’s sense of orientation and direction helping to draw them towards the next space or area.

ECLIPSE

Downlights with a wide beam can create a general ambient level of light and promote a feeling of safety. Using a wall recessed fitting can gently highlight a stairway, but introducing a narrow beam angle can add punch if the stairway is leading towards a prominent area such as a bar or restaurant.

RESTROOMS A reflection of the brand

20

Toilets and bathrooms are a space often not considered or as well thought out as they could be. This area should focus on people, on how they look and feel when they use this room. The mirrors should be a key focus here ensuring faces are modelled and lit. A hotel guest who thinks they look good in a mirror is a happy guest and this is achieved by providing diffused and direct illumination, being careful not to create hard and long shadows.

Diffused light can be provided through reflective light from an integrated source, from mirror lighting or wide beam downlights with a diffusing glass. The lit effect between the bedroom and bathroom should be considered. A consistent aesthetic theme, sufficient IP rating as well as colour consistency in the LED source ensures this room does not appear as an after thought through lack of care, but a space developed with the guest in mind.

“ acdc understand the values of outstanding customer service and implements a ‘right first time, on time’ policy ” Max Conwell, Max Conwell Design.

BARS AND RESTAURANTS Professional by day, relaxed by night

24

Gold on 27, Burj Al Arab - Dubai

Dependant on the brand’s vision for the space, the design intent of a bar and restaurant may have its own identity in relation to the hotel - a change in ambience, in style, in lit effect. As a result, this space aims to stand out from the crowd and draw guests in, whether it be for a business meeting or a personal first date as the evening draws in. This space can be defined through the use of single colour or with a dynamic colour change scheme. For instance, using light to highlight the presentation of food can

contribute to the guest experience resulting in repeat visits. Direct light upon tables, bar area or other features within the space considering the level of contrast required to meet the vision of the brand, but also the experience of the guest. An ambient level of light can be achieved using wider beam angles, or a high constrast effect can be achieved using a narrow beam angle.

CONFERENCE ROOMS Promote productivity

26

Swedbank, Stockholm - Sweden

“the pure understated aesthetics help to camoflauge the equipment within the context of the contemporary architecture.

Plazzo Versace - Dubai The mood and feel of a conference facility is often very different to all other areas - with the need to provide a formal, focussed yet comfortable space for use from breakfast through to the late hours of the evening.

Integrated cove lighting can provide a low ambient level of controlled light. This can be just around the perimeter of the conference room or the whole room depending upon the size, depth and the finishes being used to reflect the light.

From cool and alert for meetings and presentations, to warm and focused for speeches at a wedding reception, lighing control within this room allows the focus to suit the needs of the people using it.

Alongside downlights and integrated light, cove lighting can complete a scheme defining emotion, the identity of a space and how the space is used.
