Name: Oliver Ebert. Position: Lighting Consultant Architecture. How long have you been @ Zumtobel? More than five years. How did you get into lighting? Where did it all begin? 11 years ago I started working on interactive media installation and media facades as an architect. Not a traditional lighting application at all but technically and artistically based on light, architectural context, time lines and controls. What project are you working on at the moment? A façade lighting project, an IoT pilot office project, a VR show room, a LD tool specification, an art project and other. How would you describe your job? What does your standard day look like? The job here at AoL is very diversified, exciting and challenging, because there is nothing like a standard method or process to find solutions. The team is involved in various kind of lighting design tasks and applications as well as working on improvement of the inhouse lighting design tools, supporting research projects or marketing campaigns. What’s the most rewarding/best things about your job? The diversification of the tasks and the freedom to look at individual solutions beyond standard. What’s the most challenging aspects of what you do/your job? The diversification of the tasks and the freedom to look at individual solutions beyond standard. What are you in need of most ? Time and therefore more efficient planning methods.

Name: Holger Leibmann. Position: Lighting Consultant. How long have you been @ Zumtobel? 5 years. How did you get into lighting? Where did it all begin? I started my worklife as an architect and soon found that lighting is quite helpful for the perception of spaces… What project are you working on at the moment? An internal and external lighting solution for a listed building in the old town of Bielefeld, Germany. How would you describe your job? What does your standard day look like ? My job is to gather all information required to come up with lighting concepts and then provide documents/presentation that are necessary. That can vary between sketches, visualisations, lighting calculations, the preparation of VR presentations or simply a list of article numbers. What’s the most rewarding/best things about your job? Finding creative solutions together with customers and clients from all over the world. What’s the most challenging aspects of what you do/your job? Finding creative solutions together with customers and clients from all over the world. What are you in need of most? Improved interfaces between the tools we are working with (Lighting simulation, visualisation, CAD, BIM, Schedules…).

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I do like the fact that 12407 was found to be the least interesting number, which made the number quite interesting so the search is still ongoing. What are you having for your dinner tonight? Risotto with black rice, tomato, anchovies and chilies… leftover from Sunday.

Serpentine Pavilion, UK Deliverables: Luminaires acdc Every year since 2000 the Serpentine Gallery has commissioned a temporary summer pavilion by a leading architect. The final lighting solution uses acdc PLAZA fittings in two sizes with 3000K warm white LEDs. The elliptical beam helps to create an even wash on the structure while limiting glare. The wide beam uplights are positioned to point back outwards towards the structure to smooth and extend the effect. Additionally, they bring light to the inside of the cubes, which creates the illusion of the Pavilion glowing when viewed from the outside.

Reliance, Mumbi Deliverables: Luminaires from Zumtobel, Thorn, Tridonic, acdc + Zumtobel Lighting Controls The lighting solution was based on the research on Biological effects of Light since this is a control center where the employees would be working 24x7 without any natural light coming inside. We have tried to empower them with superior quality of lighting with a control system so that they have control of their environment in which they work. By leveraging our multi-brand portfolio we created a unique value proposition for our customer. Our solutions were not only cost-effective with respect to the competition but also were sustainable (95% LED Solutions), and the put human needs first (Dynamic Lighting - Human Energy Balance concept). Tunable white technology has been the most important driver of this project for the office illumination. We designed a special Light Fields tunable white installed behind a Barrisol ceiling to create an homogeneous effect aligned with the daylight to improve the lighting quality of the whole work environment. The whole system has been managed with our lighting management system in a way very easy and comfortable for our client.

Surface Mounted Flood (signage) First Central offers a unique combination of location, environment and high specification accommodation providing 1.25 million sq. ft. of office space set amongst 45 acres of landscaped grounds. FC200 is a high quality office building, which forms the second phase of development at First Central, a bustling new community in the Royal Park area of West London. More than just a place to work, it offers an impressive range of amenities for employees both on and off the Park.
Method Product Type Marina Bay Sands
Andrew Bissell from Cundall Light 4 commented on the project, “We are very pleased with the end result. The client needed people to be able to see and identify the building from the main road and tube station and that is exactly what you can do.”
Cundall Light4 took on the task of replacing the existing exterior scheme of floodlights at ground level, to create a cost effective, low energy solution. The scheme needed to create an identity for the building so that it could be easily recognizable to approaching visitors whilst at the same time minimising light spill

Blade Max Bade Max is an incredibly powerful mains on-board linear luminaire evenly washes surfaces up to 10 metres high and was selected as its light distribution fitted perfectly with the concept; to provide the block architecture with a more vertical and taller appearance.
Plaza 20 acdc’s Plaza 20, an LED architectural surface mounted uplighter providing industry leading performance, was chosen to wash the signage on the roof. Plaza’s simplistic luminaire design makes it ideal for façade illumination, whilst its built in thermal protection provides a level of safeguard when used in external environments.

Lit Effect Method
To provide appropriate illumination that maintained an uninterrupted ‘open’ surface, i.e. no intrusive lighting columns or bollards, but also provided necessary illumination to clearly define circulation paths and steps when operated in a tiered capacity. This solution provides three ‘scenarios’:
Product Type
when relatively empty the linear ‘lines of light’ emphasise the geometry and provide ‘direction, defining the view from the platform across the Bay towards the Cityscape;
FC200 Building
when occupied the illumination of the people provides a sense of spatial definition and ‘volume’; people moving through the space provide activity through random and sporadic illumination.

acdc’s Vista, a compact linear LED marker light for shallow depth installations provided the optimum specification due to a number of factors. Vista has the ability to easily specify continuously illuminated lines of light with no interruptions. It also offers a clean, flangeless, minimal appearance minimising the day time appearance; and with its uniform diffuse illumination has no visible individual LED sources. Finally, Vista has a very low surface heat in operation, which was imperative due to the very high pedestrian volume within this area.
