During the 2013 Muscular Dystrophy Canada – Dr. David Green Awards Banquet: The Dr. George Karpati Award was presented to Dr. Jean Mah. This award is presented to a scientist or researcher who has made a significant contribution to Muscular Dystrophy Canada during the past year in the areas of neuromuscular research or the advancement of care for clients with neuromuscular diseases. This year’s award goes to Dr. Jean Mah. Dr. Mah (Jean) is a paediatric neurologist and the physician leader of the paediatric neuromuscular program at the Alberta Children's Hospital. Dr. Mah is also Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics at the University of Calgary. As part of the Cooperative International Neuromuscular Research Group, Dr. Mah and her colleagues are conducting an observational research study into infantile-onset FSHD, and its clinical presentation, including quality of life measures. It is a first of its kind in Canada. Dr. Mah has dedicated her medical practice to improving the lives of children living with neuromuscular disorders and is a longtime friend and supporter of Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
