Metabolic Specialist The Departments of Medical Genetics and Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services invite application for a Metabolic Specialist at the Assistant Professor level or higher. The successful candidate will provide consultation and management for children and adults with inherited metabolic disease and develop an independent or collaborative research program. The position profile can provide up to 50% protected time allocated to research, education or administration. The inherited metabolic diseases clinic provides comprehensive clinical metabolic services to pediatric and adult patients and families and is supported by biochemical and molecular diagnostic laboratories. The clinic is linked to the provincial newborn screening program. Our program is an emerging leader in the development and evaluation of novel therapies for inborn errors of metabolism and provides a rich environment for scholarly enquiry. The clinic is located at the new 135 bed Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH). ACH admits over 7,500 children each year, and receives over 65,000 Emergency Department visits and 230,000 Ambulatory Clinic visits. The Department of Medical Genetics is home to geneticists, bioinformaticians, and models systems researchers studying organ development, cellular fate determination and genetic disease among other interests. Collaboration with a strong clinical genetics unit and major tertiary care pediatric hospital along with innovative diagnostic genetic laboratories provides access to a rich repository of patient materials. The Departments, Institute and Faculty are also home to a number of excellent core research facilities, including leading edge next generation sequencing, microscopy, proteomics and nucleic acid infrastructure.
