2010

The Student Study Lounge at the Armacost Library aims to offer students a comfortable “home away from home.” The design of the new 8,700 sf entry addition provides a formal entrance to the old library building. It was important to maintain the circulation and current operations of the library but at the same time provide the students a much-needed place to study, collaborate and hang out. Library users are welcomed with custom-designed furniture, lamps and ottomans that can be quickly rearranged to provide flexibility to the students. The grand stair leading into the space is divided into thirds with double-height steps on either side of the center circulation that are lined with floor pillows, providing a more informal lounge space. Also included are computer labs and classrooms, group study rooms and a café. Open 24-hours a day, this library entryway has become a destination unto itself and has provided a memorable space and image for the university.
