Wilshire Grand LOCATION
Los Angeles, CA
Not since City Hall has a tall building truly addressed the issue of creating an iconic skyline for Los Angeles. The Wilshire Grand will be a contemporary contrast to a generation of flat top buildings composed of granite and inset windows. It will be a building of our time, a gleaming expression. The hotel + office tower is configured to maximize views of Santa Monica, the Pacific Ocean and LA‚s acclaimed sunsets to the west; and the Hollywood Hills and San Gabriel Mountains to the north, particularly breathtaking during clear winter days. The vistas from the tower will be spectacular both day and night, with floor-to-ceiling windows filling hotel and office spaces with natural light. High-speed, double deck elevators provide a 50 second ride to an innovative Sky Lobby on the 70th floor and Signature Restaurant. Marked by soaring structural outriggers, the Sky Lobby greets every guest with large, panorama views. Guests can check-in, stop by the Sky Bar, relax at the window’s edge, or head to the Club Lounge. A glass elevator overlooking the city provides access to the Observation Deck on the 73rd floor. The urban plaza at the intersection of 7th Street and Figueroa Street will be unprecedented. It is the portal to the citywide transit system, and the crossroads of the sports and entertainment district, the financial district and historic 7th Street, an outdoor living room filled with cafes, outdoor dining, retail and restaurants. In essence, the new center of Downtown LA. Given the mild climate and even temperatures of Los Angeles, the Wilshire Grand celebrates its location with a strong sense of indoor-outdoor connectivity. Hotel rooms are equipped with operable windows for fresh air. Ballrooms open directly onto gardens. The generous prefunction space extends to a terrace. Pool decks are lined with cabanas. Outdoor meeting rooms encircle fire pits. Efficiency is key in the design of the Wilshire Grand. Hotel guestroom floors are space-planned to maximize rooms of like sizes and proportions. High performance glass clads the tower with an energy efficient skin that reduces heat gain and protects the building from solar radiation. Office floors have an advanced mechanical system that draws air from the exterior skin on a floor-by-floor basis, as compared to pulling air through the top of the building. This strategy reduces fan horsepower energy and improves indoor air quality. It begins with a vision; and through the collective efforts and talents of youthful minds and seasoned professionals, the Wilshire Grand will redefine downtown urban architecture for the 21st century.
The building takes advantage of its location in the city where the Wilshire Grand address continues to unfold as the center of activity and a lively urban center. The landscaping and open, friendly urban spaces connect to rather than stand away from the urban fabric.

Los Angeles is a rich fabric of eclectic environments, cultures and people. The hotel vibe aims to capture this spirit. It will carefully pair the urban sophistication of Downtown L.A’s burgeoning art scene and nightlife with California’s distinctive casual way of life, to create its own signature style. The eclectic interior’s will combine “laid back modern” elements, classic ‘arts and crafts’ pieces and products designed and/or crafted by local artisans, designers and craftspeople to create a truly authentic guest experience.
PO OL B A R/ RESTA URA N T (P O DI UM)
The Project responds to the Los Angeles culture and climate with an open, energetic environment where indoor/ outdoor relationships are created at every practical opportunity. Amenities consist of unparalleled access to light and air for all office tenants, hotel guests and visitors; a dramatic and lively urban open space; and indoor and outdoor cafes, restaurants, and bars. Numerous hospitality experiences that relate to Los Angeles as a destination are explored. These include such ideas as: a gracious and auto-centric porte-cochere, recreational space that relates to the outdoors, and landscape environments and public spaces that are at-home with the city’s casual lifestyle.

The Wilshire Grand Hotel offers guests an authentic local experience that is unique to both Los Angeles and California. Sweeping views of the city’s diverse topography, from the mountains to the sea, are visible from public spaces and guest rooms. The glass used in the structure allows each space to be filled with maximum light. This “Golden State Glow” is enhanced by the use of natural materials, earthy colors, and richly layered textures, giving the guest an ethereal retreat from city, after a day of sightseeing or business travel.
The comprehensive demolition program involves the methodical floor-by-floor dismantling of the existing building. This strategy maximizes the amount of materials recovered and recycled: recovered concrete repurposed into Class II Base for structural fills, roads, or building pads; recovered steel melted into 100% newly recycled reinforcing bars for numerous construction projects.
