BACKGROUND Oxygen gas is a colourless, odourless, and a tasteless gas. It provides the support system to existence of living organisms on earth. Without it life is impossible on earth.

OCCURRENCE It is the most abundant element by mass in Earth's crust. Besides Hydrogen and Helium, the third most common chemical abundantly available is Oxygen.

It does not at all react with water. It is physically present in water. The main sources of oxygen are atmosphere and photosynthesis process.

Oxygen (O2) gas though a very important supporting factor for survival, it's subject to the factors that it should be present at a level or in a quantity that it doesn't prove harmful instead of being beneficial.

Oxygen can be toxic to lungs and central nervous system during scuba diving, etc. Highly concentrated sources of oxygen promote rapid combustion, fire and explosion hazards. If liquid oxygen gets soaked into wood, petrochemicals, etc. they explode violently subsequent to further mechanical procedure.
