BY KATIE MINTZ • SUN NEWSPAPERS The city of Edina could be asked for public financial assistance to help redevelop historic Southdale Center. City officials discussed how to use roughly $20 million in available tax increment financing dollars near the mall site at a work session Tuesday, April 19. According to City Manager Scott Neal, Simon Property Group, Inc., which owns Southdale, wants $5.3 million toward its approximately $30 million plan to renovate the mall interior, entrances and department store for new anchor tenant Herberger’s.

An Edina couple will finally get to build a new home this summer nearly a year after a Minnesota Supreme Court decision put their plans on hold. The Edina City Council unanimously approved a conditional use permit Tuesday, April 19, allowing Connie and Jeff Miller to replace their 1950s rambler on Garrison Lane. The move came just as the Minnesota Legislature neared a fix to the June 2010 Supreme Court ruling in Krummenacher v. City of Minnetonka.
