Walking a mile in her shoes for Cornerstone They walked far less than a mile, but more than 20 men took steps toward ending domestic violence. The men, wearing red high-heeled shoes, practiced walking as onlookers watched April 1 at Mall of America. The crowd was entertained as participants strutted up and down the runway, some rather gingerly, others with relative ease. The rehearsal was in preparation for the second annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,” a fundraising and awareness campaign for Cornerstone of Bloomington, which works to prevent domestic violence and support those affected by it. The Walk is 8 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Mall of America. Registration begins 7:30 a.m. at Macy’s Court. Men, women and children are invited to participate. The registration fee is $25. There is no charge for children under 12. Men are encouraged, but not required, to walk in women’s high-heeled shoes, which will be available in all sizes for use at the walk. The walk “demonstrates to the community the critical role men play in ending domestic violence,” said Susan Neis, executive director of Cornerstone. “Cornerstone works with thousands of families and children each year, and depends on community involvement and support to continue raising awareness about an issue that many families face.” The walk, based upon the principle that to truly know someone you must walk in their shoes, began as a way to educate the community about domestic violence and raise necessary funds for the domestic violence support and prevention program offered by Cornerstone. Advance registration is available at firstgiving.com/cornerstonemn. Info: xr.com/walk.

Mall of America trend specialist Sara Rogers gives Bloomington Mayor Gene Winstead pointers on how to walk in red high-heeled shoes. Several men practiced walking the runway last week in preparation for Cornerstone’s annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” The walk, April 16, is a benefit for Cornerstone, which works to prevent domestic abuse and provides services to victims of abuse. Wearing three-inch heels, more than 20 men practiced walking in them, including Eden Prairie Police Officer Carter Staaf, whose red shoes stood out in comparison to his camouflage and dark dress socks.
