Developments could get city approval BY PAUL GROESSEL SUN NEWSPAPERS UnitedHealth Group Inc. wants to build a 1.4 millionsquare-foot office building in Eden Prairie; a Ford dealership is looking to construct a new building, and a church could give way to 16 new residential properties – the Eden Prairie City Council could have a few plans to consider during its July 19 meeting. Another project, an addition to GE Capital’s Fleet Services division, could be up for approval during an August city council meeting, according to City Planner Mike Franzen. GE could use the space to showcase electric vehicles to its fleet management customers and others. Here’s a glimpse of the projects:

UnitedHealth Complex One of the proposed projects is a UnitedHealth Group corporate complex that could house nearly 6,650 people in four buildings, according to a letter from UnitedHealth’s development consultant, Westwood Professional Services, Inc. The building would be located on United-owned property off Highway 62 and Shady Oak Road on the Northeast corner of Eden Prairie. The four buildings, varying from 8-15 stories high, would take up a combined 1.43-millionsquare-feet, according to the let-

The UnitedHealth Group plans are expected to be on the July 19 city council agenda, about a month and a half after UnitedHealth’s Optum solidified the purchase of the former ADC Telecommunications building in Eden Prairie.

The people and planes that have made history will make an appearance at the AirExpo 2011, hosted by Wings of the North, July 16 and 17 at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie. “It’s kind of like a community fair. It just happens to have an aviation theme,” said Wings of the North President Bob Jasperson. It will be especially meaningful for World War II veterans and the local history buffs and onlookers who would like to see and honor them. could be fully developed by 2017. Previous planning documents called for a mixed-use complex. Since UnitedHealth plans on using it all for office space, the city council must approve a Comprehensive Guide Plan amendment that would designate the entire property as office land use.
