Michel Haumont This anthology is a sampling of more recent compositions (including two newly published ones), which illustrate well the various “fingerstyle” influences. The technical level ranges from intermediate to advanced, but also contains a few more difficult pieces. The enclosed DVD facilitates practice and performance of the pieces by providing a detailed view of fingerings and fret board positions.

La France des années 70 a vu naître le « Finger-Picking Style », notamment grâce au regretté Marcel Dadi, trop tôt disparu. Michel Haumont, compagnon des premiers temps, est l’un des principaux représentants de cette scène dont la musique s’inspire du style des guitaristes américains tels que Merle Travis ou Chet Atkins. Ce qui diffèrenciait Michel Haumont des autres était déjà cette inspirationt spécifiquement française, qui donne à ses compositions ce charme particulier. Aujourd’hui encore, sa musique est toujours empreinte de cette finesse si catéristique: des mélodies aux structures claires, soutenues par le rythme de la basse picking dégagent une profondeur mêlée d'une légèreté qui en font tout leur charme. La musique de Michel Haumont n’est comparable à aucune autre. Irrésistible, elle vous reste dans l’oreille: elle vous séduit dès la première écoute.

Peter Finger Octobre 2015 During the folk and blues revival of the late 1960s and 1970s, France developed a vigorous guitar scene centered on Marcel Dadi, a guitarist who, alas, died much too young. Michel Haumont was a member and representative of this scene, whose music was inspired by the style of the American country pickers, like Merle Travis or Chet Atkins. But what differentiated Michel Haumont from many of those guitar players was that he inevitably added an unmistakable French touch to his playing, one that gave his own compositions a special Parisian charm. Even today, his music has a relaxed and catchy sound. His clearly structured melodies over the typically driving picking bass exude lightness and always have a positive undercurrent. Michel Haumont’s music is incomparable and unmistakable. It is also irresistible and remains ingrained in one’s memory. So it’s no wonder than people like to listen to this congenial musician’s performances.

If you would like to try out Michel’s music on the guitar, this edition gives you the opportunity to take a closer look at his music, note for note. And on the enclosed DVD, you will be able to see exactly how Michel plays his own pieces himself.

Peter Finger October 2015 Während des Folk- und Blues-Revivals der späten 60er und 70er Jahre entwickelte sich in Frankreich eine starke Gitarrenszene um den leider viel zu früh verstorbenen Gitarristen Marcel Dadi. Michel Haumont war Weggefährte und einer der Vertreter dieser Szene, deren Musik auf dem Stil amerikanischer Country-Picker wie Merle Travis oder Chet Atkins basierte. Was Michel Haumont jedoch von den meisten dieser Gitarristen unterschied, war, dass er in seinen eigenen Stücken eine unverwechselbare französische Note ins Spiel brachte, die seinen Eigenkompositionen einen besonderen Pariser Charme verliehen. Auch heute noch klingt seine Musik immer locker und eingängig. Seine klar strukturierten Melodien über dem typisch treibenden Picking-Bass strahlen Leichtigkeit aus und haben stets eine positive Grundstimmung. Michel Haumonts Musik ist nicht nur unvergleichbar und unverwechselbar. Sie ist auch unwiderstehlich und bleibt im Gedächtnis. Kein Wunder also, dass man diesem sympathischen Musiker gerne zuhört.

Wer versuchen möchte, Michels Musik selbst auf der Gitarre zu spielen, hat mit dieser Ausgabe die Gelegenheit, sich Note für Note in seine Musik zu vertiefen. Und auf der beiliegenden DVD kann man genau sehen, wie Michel selbst die Stücke spielt.

LOUISIANA RAG Hommage rendu aux premiers guitaristes noir-américains qui ont créé ce style, l’un des fondements du « fingerpicking style ». Joué en open-tuning de Sol, il est dédié à l’un de ses plus brillants interprètes français: Alain Giroux.

Conseil: Comme souvent dans le Rag-Time adaptés pour la guitare, la ligne de basses évoque les basses d’un piano. Cela aide d’étouffer les cordes MI/LA/RE à l’aide de la paume de la main droite (pour mieux les controler).

LOUISIANA RAG An homage to the first black American guitarists who created this style – one of the fundamental bases of the finger-picking style. Played on open G, it is dedicated to Alain Giroux – once of the most brilliant French representatives of this genre.

Tip: As is so often the case when you adapt ragtime to the guitar, the bass line has to imitate the bass on the piano. It helps to dampen the E, A and D strings using the palm of the right hand (to better control them).

LOUISIANA RAG Eine Hommage an die ersten schwarzen amerikanischen Gitarristen, die diesen Stil geschaffen haben – eine der Grundlagen des „Fingerpicking“-Stils. In Open-G gespielt, ist es Alain Giroux gewidmet – einem der brillantesten französischen Vertreter dieses Genres.

HÉRITAGE I was inspired to write this piece by the enormously multi-facetted folk music of Europe, in which I am always able to discover new aspects.

Tip: This may be the most difficult piece in the collection. Work your way through it very slowly in order to more easily understand the logic behind the fingering.

HÉRITAGE Zu diesem Stück hat mich die enorme Vielseitigkeit europäischer Volksmusik inspiriert, an der ich immer wieder neue Seiten entdecken kann.
