C’est dans le tout nouveau home studio de Thierry Crommen à Ovifat (BE) que l’album est enregistré.
Un soliste aux multiples facettes Parallèlement aux collaborations avec d’autres artistes, les concerts solos se multiplient et le répertoire s’étoffe de nouvelles compositions. Peu de temps après DIFFERENT WAYS, sort l’album FINGERPRINT (1997), qui est le reflet de cette intense activité. Mais ce travail en solo qui est l’empreinte marquante du travail de Jacques Stotzem est loin d’être exclusif, « Lazy », un duo guitare-saxophone avec Thierry Crommen figure encore sur cet album. L’album est enregistré avec la Martin OM21. Pour certains morceaux, Jacques utilise une Lowden S32, réalisée par Georges Lowden qui présente la particularité inhabituelle de posséder un chevalet à chevilles, en lieu et place du chevalet cordier sans chevilles traditionnel de la marque. 20

Solist mit vielen Facetten Parallel zur Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Künstlern vervielfachen sich die Solokonzerte und das Repertoire füllt sich mit neuen Kompositionen. Kurz nach „Different Ways“ erscheint das Album „Fingerprint“ (1997), das die intensiven Aktivitäten reflektiert. Aber das Solospiel, welches das markante Kennzeichen der Arbeit Jacques Stotzems darstellt, betreibt er nicht exklusiv, so erscheint zum Beispiel auch das Duo „Lazy“ mit Thierry Crommen in der Besetzung Saxophon und Gitarre auf diesem Album. Es wird mit einer Martin OM21 aufgenommen. Für einige Stücke benutzt Jacques eine von Georges Lowden hergestellte Lowden S32, die als Besonderheit einen Steg mit „Bridge Pins“ aufweist, anstelle
A Soloist With Many Faces In addition to collaborating with other artists, Jacques’ solo career begins to take off. His repertoire expands, and he is invited to play an increasing number of solo concerts. His album ‘Fingerprint’ is released in 1997, and it reflects this new sense of intensity. And even though the album further refined his trademark solo work, it also features a guitar/saxophone duet with Thierry Crommen. The bulk of the album features Jacques’ Martin OM21, though a few pieces were recorded with a Lowden S-32. The next album, ‘Connections’, comes out in 1999, and there couldn’t have been a more fitting title for the project. Jacques is in an experimental mood, he includes several duets, and plays on some new guitars. One of them is a Lowden LSE2 that is the result of his collaborations with the company, and which he plays in a duet with the great Belgian jazz guitarist Jacques Pirotton. Several of the album’s cuts are the result of this encounter.

Sich selber treu bleibend, entscheidet sich Jacques für eine Gitarre, die inspiriert ist von einer OM21, mit schlichtem Dekor und aus bestmöglichstem Holz und Verarbeitung. Eine Gitarre, die sowohl auf der Bühne als auch im Studio beste Eigenschaften zeigt. Und die Jacques nicht mehr missen möchte.

A Turning Point Released in 2008, the album ‘Catch The Spirit’ represents a turning point in Jacques’ career. Although his guitar had taken him into every corner of the world, Jacques’ success at home had been limited to a small group of dedicated fans. But with its arrangements of classic rock songs by the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Sting, U2, Neil Young, and others, ‘Catch The Spirit’ opens the doors to Belgian radio stations,

festival in Manchester, England, held at the 20th anniversary of Rory’s passing. Jacques had started to work on arrangements of additional Rory Gallagher tunes while on tour promoting ‘Catch The Spirit II’, and now was the time to present them. Initially skeptical when Jacques steps on stage with nothing but his acoustic guitar in the midst of a lineup of electric bands, Rory’s fans are ultimately convinced by the power of Jacques’ arrangements, which resurrect Rory the way they love him. The repertoire is a homage to a musician whose spell Jacques was captured by as a teenager, and it is released on the album ‘To Rory’ in 2015. The cover features Jacques with his collection of Rory Gallagher LPs, the inside includes a picture of the ticket stub from the concert that Jacques attended as an 18-year old. Arranging Rory’s music brings Jacques back to his own acoustic-rock energy and his love for melodic playing. It is as if Rory’s influence has always been hidden in his own playing style. 43
