Die fünfte Ausgabe dieser beliebten Reihe widmet sich den Meistern der irischen Musik. Feurige, schwungvolle Jigs und Reels sowie lyrische irische Airs sind die wichtigsten Musikgenres der grünen Insel. Auch die Werke der meisten Nationalkomponisten weisen thematische und musikalische Nähe zur Volkskultur auf.

The fifth volume in this popular series, this book is dedicated to the masters of Irish music. Fiery jigs, lively reels, and lyrical airs are the most important musical forms originating on the green island, and these folk-based themes are also found in most of the works by Ireland’s most famous composers.

Alle Stücke sind für die Schüler mit etwa drei Jahren Unterrichtserfahrung leicht bearbeitet und für alle angehenden Gitarristen spielbar. Jeder Komposition geht ein Text voraus: Hier gibt es allerlei Wissenswertes über Musik, Infos zu den Komponisten, Übungstipps und noch vieles mehr. Das Heft enthält sowohl eine traditionelle Notation mit ausreichenden Angaben zu Fingersätzen, als auch eine Tabulatur. Die beiliegende CD und ein Mini-Lexikon ergänzen das Heft. Und wenn ihr noch Fragen habt, auf YouTube gibt es einige Tutorials, die das Erlernen der hier vorgestellten Kompositionen erleichtern.

All the pieces have been arranged to be accessible for guitarists with about three years of playing experience. Each composition includes an intro text with useful information about the music, information about the composer, practice tips, and more. This book includes standard notation with indications for fingering, as well as tablature. It is completed with an audio CD and a reference section. If you still have questions, our YouTube channel offers several tutorials that will facilitate learning the pieces. I hope you enjoy this book!

„The Minstrel Boy“ basiert auf der alten irischen Melodie „The Moreen“. Thomas Moore (1779–1852) verfasst den Text vermutlich zum Gedenken an die Opfer der Irischen Rebellion von 1798. Das Lied gewinnt große Popularität nach dem 1. Weltkrieg und zählt heute noch zu den bekanntesten irischen Kompositionen. “The Minstrel Boy” is based on the melody of the Irish traditional “The Moreen.” Thomas Moore (1779-1852) wrote the lyrics, presumably to commemorate the victims of the Irish rebellion of 1798. The song became popular after World War 1, and continues to be one of the most famous Irish compositions.

1829 in Irland geboren, siedelt Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore mit 19 Jahren nach Amerika über, wo er als Militärkapellmeister verschiedene Blaskapellen leitet. Zu einem gefragten Musiker des Landes geworden, beauftragt ihn nach Ende des Bürgerkriegs Präsident Lincoln sogar mit der Organisation der Friedensfeiern in New Orleans. Gilmore komponiert zahlreiche Lieder, darunter auch sein berühmtestes „When Johnny Comes Marching Home“. „Freedom On The Old Plantation“, 1861 zu Beginn des amerikanischen Bürgerkrieges geschrieben, trägt einen feierlichen Charakter. Der erste Takt wird in der gemischten Lage I/II gespielt. Bei der folgenden Vorübung ist auf den Fingersatz genau zu achten:

Born in Ireland in 1829, Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore emigrates to America at the age of 19. As a military band leader, he directed several brass bands. Ultimately becoming an in-demand musician in his new country, he was hired by president Lincoln to organize celebrations of peace in New Orleans following the end of the Civil War. Gilmore composed many songs, among them his famous “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.” Written in 1861, around the beginning of the American Civil War, “Freedom On the Old Plantation” has a celebratory character. The first measure is played in the first and second position. Pay close attention to the fingering in the following exercise:

Konstantin Vassiliev wurde in Sibirien (Russland) geboren. Er studierte an den Hochschulen für Musik in Novosibirsk und in Münster/Westfalen. Neben seinen Konzerten und der pädagogischen Tätigkeit beschäftigt er sich mit der Literaturerweiterung für Gitarristen aller Altersstufen. Seine zahlreichen Kompositionen und Bearbeitungen werden sowohl in Europa als auch in Japan, Kanada und den USA publiziert. Zudem ist er Preisträger mehrerer internationaler Kompositionswettbewerbe. Seine Musik erklingt experimentell und innovativ, ist aber auch von Traditionen, vor allem der klassischen russischen Schule, geprägt. Sein Musikstil zeichnet sich aus durch Vielfältigkeit: von romantischer Melancholie über impressionistische Fantasterei und Mystik bis zur zeitgemäßen Expressivität.

Konstantin Vassiliev was born in Siberia (Russia). He studied at the Academies of Music in Novosibirsk and in Muenster/Westphalia. Apart from giving concerts and teaching guitar Vassiliev has concerned himself with adding to the literature available for guitar players of all ages. His numerous compositions and arrangements have been published in Europe, as well as in Japan, Canada and the USA. In addition he won several awards at various international composition contests. His music sounds experimental and innovative, but it is also stamped by tradition, above all that of the classical Russian school. His musical style distinguishes itself by its diversity: from romantic melancholy through impressionistic fantasies and mysticism, right up to contemporary expressiveness.
