Pro Football Hall of Fame

A Message from the Co-Chairs Dear Guests, Welcome to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Taste of the NFL! The Steering Committee has been working with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank for almost a year now to plan this evening’s event, and we are honored that you’ve joined us here tonight. It has been great to see members of our community working together for such a great cause. As the need to feed the hungry rises, so does the Foodbank’s need for your support. The difficult economic times we are going through have had a dramatic effect on numerous families in the eight counties served by the Foodbank. Your support tonight guarantees availability of food for those in need in our community. We would like to thank all of the restaurants, wineries and other food and beverage providers who have donated their services this evening. We would like to encourage you to support these establishments year-round just as they have supported this event. We would also like to extend our thanks for the generous in-kind and financial support of our numerous sponsors. Furthermore, Taste of the NFL would not run smoothly without our team of hospitable volunteers. We owe one last special thanks to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame staff have put in countless hours securing the participation of Hall of Fame Enshrinees and working with the Steering Committee to ensure an unforgettable and successful evening. It has been our pleasure to serve as co-chairs for Taste of the NFL this year. Again, thank you for helping the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank tackle hunger in Northeast Ohio.

Pro Football Hall of Fame

A Message from the Foodbank Dear Friends, On behalf of the staff and the Board of Directors of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, thank you for joining us this evening at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. We greatly appreciate your support of Taste of the NFL as we continue to fight hunger right here in our community. We would also like to thank the Pro Football Hall of Fame for hosting us at this historic facility and bringing the Hall of Fame Enshrinees here tonight. This event would also not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. We’d also like to extend special thanks to our 2010 co-chairs, Thom Mandel and Gary Smith, who have done a wonderful job overseeing the countless details of tonight’s event. The demand for emergency food continues to rise. One in three people in food lines are children under the age of 18, and one in ten people are over the age of 65. With the support of individuals like you, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank distributed 18.7 million pounds of food and fed 180,000 different people in 2009. Our network of more than 430 member agencies in eight counties counts on events like Taste of the NFL to ensure food gets to the mouths of those that need it most. The Foodbank needs your continued support to ensure that we can feed those in need. Each dollar raised tonight will help the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank provide three meals for a hungry child, adult or senior in our community. Your attendance at Taste of the NFL this evening shows your commitment to the cause. Thank you for your support!

Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinees Ted Hendricks began his career as the second-round pick of the Baltimore Colts in the 1969 AFL-NFL Draft. He played in 215 straight regular-season games and participated in eight Pro Bowl games, seven AFC Championships and four Super Bowls. In his career, he intercepted 26 passes, recovered 16 opponents’ fumbles and scored a record-tying four safeties. Hendricks scored touchdowns on an interception, a fumble return, and a blocked punt. Class of 1990, 1969-1973: Baltimore Colts, 1974: Green Bay Packers, 1975-1983: Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders

Rickey Jackson was one of the key players that fueled the New Orleans Saints transition from losers into contenders in the late 1980’s. He was named first-team All-Pro in four seasons. The Saints registered its first winning season and the first playoff appearance in franchise history in 1987. When the Saints captured their first-ever division title in 1991, Rickey contributed to the season with 11.5 sacks, 59 tackles, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. Jackson retired after the 1995 season with 128 career sacks; that does not include his rookie total since the sack did not become an official statistic until 1982. Class of 2010, 1981-1993: New Orleans Saints, 1994-1995: San Francisco 49ers

Randall McDaniel finished his career with Tampa Bay after 12 seasons with the Vikings where he played in all 16 games in his rookie year. McDaniel continued to excel the following season with a streak of 202 consecutive starts that continued through the end of his career. He also earned the first of 12 straight Pro Bowl berths. In the 1996 Pro Bowl he caught a touchdown pass, becoming the first guard in AFC-NFC Pro Bowl history to accomplish such a feat. Regarded as one of the finest offensive linemen in NFL history, McDaniel was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s. Class of 2009, 19881999: Minnesota Vikings, 2000-2001: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Bobby Mitchell was teamed with the incomparable Jim Brown to give the Browns one of history’s truly great running back combinations from 1958 through 1961. During his first six seasons with the Redskins he never caught fewer than 58 passes. When he retired, his 14,078 combined net yards was the second highest total in NFL history. He had also scored an amazing 91 touchdowns and had 7,954 yards on receptions and 2,735 yards on rushes. He played in all 16 games as a rookie before he earned a starting role at defensive tackle in his second season. In the 1993 season, Randle earned All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl invitation for the first time which began a string of six straight All-Pro and Pro Bowl seasons. In all, Randle amassed 137.5 sacks during his 14-season career. He led the Vikings in sacks nine times and the Seahawks twice. Randle was elected to seven Pro Bowls and named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s. Class of 2010, 1990-2000: Minnesota Vikings, 2001-2003: Seattle Seahawks

Mel Renfro was the Cowboys’ second-round pick in the 1964 NFL Draft and led the Cowboys with seven interceptions, topped the NFL in both punt return and kickoff return yardage, and received an invitation to the Pro Bowl during his rookie season. In his 14-season career, Renfro intercepted 52 passes that he returned for 626 yards, returned 109 punts for 842 yards and 85 kickoffs for 2,246 yards. In all, he scored six touchdowns, three on interceptions, one on a punt return and two on kickoff runbacks. Renfro played in eight NFL/NFC Championship games and four Super Bowls. Class of 1996, Dallas Cowboys

Jim Taylor was the symbol of power for the Green Bay Packers. Thousandyard seasons became a specialty for Taylor. He went over 1,000 yards five straight seasons beginning in 1960 but reached his pinnacle in 1962, when he had a career-high 1,474 yards and was named the NFL Player of the Year. In the 1962 NFL title game Taylor engaged in a personal duel with the New York Giants’ outstanding defense. Jim carried 31 times for 85 yards and scored Green Bay’s only touchdown in a 16-7 victory. In this year Taylor led the NFL rushers, scorers and had 19 rushing touchdowns. Class of 1976, 1958-1966: Green Bay Packers, 1967: New Orleans Saints

During his career he intercepted careerhigh six passes twice, 40 total which he returned for 309 yards and was only the second Cardinals player to record 6 interceptions in one season. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinees Dave Wilcox was in the 1964 draft for both the AFC and the NFC. Dave chose to play in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers over the AFC Houston Oilers. Nicknamed “The Intimidator”, the 6-3, 241-pound linebacker thrived on action and wanted it all. He was also effective in pass coverage and managed to intercept 14 passes during his career. In 1973 he recorded 104 solo tackles, four forced fumbles, and tackled opposing ball carriers for a loss 13 times. Five times he was named All-NFL and three times All-NFC and he was selected to play in seven Pro Bowls. Class of 2000, 1964-1974: San Francisco 49ers

Jack Youngblood was the Rams’ quarterback sack leader, was All-Pro five times and All-NFC seven times. He played in seven straight Pro Bowls from 1973 to 1979. One of his most outstanding single-game performances was against the St. Louis Cardinals in a 1975 playoff game where he recorded one sack, one forced fumble, one blocked extra-point attempt and returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown. During a first-round playoff game in 1979, Youngblood suffered a fractured left fibula. However, he was fitted with a plastic brace and he played every defensive down in both the NFC title game and Super Bowl. He played in a Rams’ record 201 consecutive games and only missed one game in 14 seasons, that one miss coming in his final year in 1984. Class of 2001, 1971-1984: Los Angeles Rams
