Has Math Changed?
Week of: January 7- Be the best person you can be.
Child- “That’s not the way you are supposed to do it. They want us to do it this way.” Parent- “I don’t know that way. Why would they change Math?”
January 14- “In diversity there is beauty and strength” – Maya Angelou
That is a quote from a recent animated movie, however it is the truth and is probably something that happens in your house several times a year. Math has changed, and for good reason. In her article Math: Why doesn’t yours look like mine? Wendy Ward Hoffer offers parents a brief insight as to why Math has changed and how parents can help at home. Healthy Habits
Healthy Habit tips for January: 1. Remind your child to cover their mouth when they sneeze or cough. 2. Remind your child to do their part by keeping themselves and school bathrooms clean and germ-free.

Character Trait of the Month- Tolerance For the month of January, we will talk about tolerance. Tolerance is “showing respect for others who are different than me.” Tolerance towards others can be difficult. Being tolerant does not mean you must accept disrespectful or bad attitudes. But being a tolerant person does mean encouraging good character in others and yourself. This month talk to your child(ren) about: 1. Listening to others. 2. Remembering that not everyone is the same. 3. Look for ways to connect with others. 4. Know the difference between what is "popular" and what is "right." 1
