ACS Athens Elementary School Monthly Newsletter November 2018
Elementary News October
was a busy month with Back to School Day, MAP testing, School Pictures, the Halloween Carnival and concluding with Parent Teacher Conferences. We thank you for your help and participation in all of them as well as your feedback. We are now in November already and it is evident that ACS Athens Elementary is an active, dynamic, and positive place of learning and playing. The teaching and support staff are working hard to provide students with a quality educational program each day. Later this month, we will celebrate Thanksgiving. November 21st is a half-day, November 22nd and 23rd school will be closed. November 30th marks the end of the 1st Trimester for the 2018-2019 school year. Report cards will be available on Skyward in midDecember.
Essential 35 Week of:
November 5- Congratulate the winner or when someone does something well. November 12- Know other teachers’ names and greet them by name. November 19- Greet visitors and make them feel welcome. November 26- Hold the door for people rather than letting it close on them.
Character Trait of the Month- Caring November
is the perfect time to focus on the character trait of Caring. We can demonstrate caring by being kind and compassionate, by expressing gratitude, showing forgiveness and by helping others in need. With the holiday season fast approaching, there are daily opportunities to encourage, teach and model these values. Caring involves concern, charity, and love.

Fun Activities to Reinforce Caring Activity Idea: Strive for Five– Challenge kids to choose 5 people they can help in some way. For example, they may choose to play with someone new, help a person who has fallen, say thank you to the lunchroom workers, etc. Or, instead of doing something nice for 5 people, change it to doing 5 kind things a day. Don’t be surprised when “Strive for Five” becomes a desire to help in more than 5 different ways! Activity Idea: Family Service Project– Have your family identify a need in the school or community and develop a plan to help. This might take the form of making or donating hats and blankets for newborns, the upcoming school canned food drive or another project that displays care for others. November is the perfect opportunity to find ways to help out. Have your family help at a homeless shelter, food pantry, nursing home, daycare, or help a particular family in need.
