SUPPORTS HELPS ANSWERS RECOMMENDS
JUNE 2019
A welcome note to parents: Dear ACS Athens Community, As we approach the end of 2018-2019 school year, we would like to thank all parents, volunteers, staff members and students for their kind and continuous support throughout the year. Because of our community’s effort, our events were successful, we were able to fundraise for the school and donate to charities. All of us, members of the PTO board, we were glad and honored to have been granted the chance to serve you and we hope to have met your expectations and delivered the kind of integrity and activities you look forward to having in our school. It has been a highly rewarding experience in which we strived to bring the school family closer together. By building a strong school community, we can enrich our children’s social and educational experience. We hope that some of you would consider joining next year’s PTO board. It is a great opportunity to better know the school, stay close to the children’s educational life, meet new people, learn firsthand students’ news, engage in meaningful discussions and contribute to the school’s success. We would also like to congratulate to ACS Athens graduating students and wish them many successes for their future. Have a great relaxing summer everyone! Your PTO Board

THEMES FROM THE PAST MONTHS Teachers’ Appreciation Week The Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week was a great success! Many Thanks to all the parents who brought their wonderful dishes and and all the volunteers who helped us serve the food. We were able to organize a Breakfast and a Lunch! In addition, all of the teachers and staff who came received a handmade decorative pencil holder and participated in a tombola.
COMMUNITY EVENT “From Childhood to Teenhood overnight” informative session That was a wonderful event hosted by the PTO and organized by our school nurse Miss Athina Gargali and our School Psychologist Dr. Alessandra Sax. Our young ladies had the opportunity to learn about the changes and the transition that happen between Childhood and Teenhood. That was a very interesting event. Thank you for coming! #2

PARENTS
DID YOU KNOW THAT...?
Each month an Acs Athens parent answers these 10 questions! Please drop us a quick note in our feedback form if you would like to share!
…you can send us your thoughts, ideas and suggestions through the PTO page on the school Website? Or simply click http://www.acs.gr/pto-about/
...both “equinox” and “solstice” refer to the path of the sun throughout the year. During a solstice, the sun is either at its northernmost point (Tropic of Cancer) or it is at its southernmost point (Tropic of Capricorn). An equinox is either of the two days each year when the sun crosses the equator and both day and night are equally long. ...the word “solstice” is from the Latin solstitium, which is from sol (sun) and stitium (to stop) because it seems as if the sun stops at the solstice.
Andreas Kambanis Dad of 1st grader Angelina
What is the most beautiful thing your child has ever said to you? The first time she called me daddy, the first
time she told me she loves me and a note she gave me that said “Undreas I nou that you love me because and I love you” I still have that note.
What is the most hurtful thing your child has ever said to you? I don’t mean to sound pat but there isn’t a single thing Angelina has ever said to me that hurt me. I think I hurt when I know I have let her down or when I cannot be there for her.
What is the funniest thing you remember your child saying? Angelina has a strong sense of humor and says
many amusing things, because we laugh quite a lot together nothing really stands out. She has said two things that have stayed with me, “daddy, things change” and “you get what you get and don’t get upset”
What is your child’s favorite hobbie(s)? She loves to draw and swim underwater.
...in the Northern Hemisphere, summer solstice occurs sometime between June 20 and June 22, and between December 20 and December 23 in the Southern Hemisphere. ...scientists argue that summer babies are significantly more likely to suffer from mood swings than babies born in other seasons ...Popsicles, a popular summer treat, was accidentally invented by an 11-year-old boy in San Francisco in 1905. He left a glass of soda sitting outside and by the next morning the soda had frozen. He began selling them at an amusement park in New Jersey.
HEALTHY & YUMMY This month we present:
Our best kid friendly snack
How do you get your children to eat vegetables?
We don’t “get” her to eat them, we simply put them in front of her. She likes beets, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, olives, artichokes, grilled mushrooms, peas. She also loves eating fish heads! Go figure.
How did you choose your child’s name?
We chose Angelina’s name because we wanted to honor my mother but we did not want to name her Angela or Angie. Her aunt is named Anghelika and her great grandmother was Aggeliki so we felt that the name Angelina would honor that family history but also be a little different.
What’s guaranteed to make your child smile?
Piggybacks, ice cream, tickling, getting her way but generally she smiles a lot.
What is the best thing you enjoy about being a parent? The relationship that continues to develop be-
tween myself and Angelina. Watching her grow and develop and learn new things. The bond that continues to grow but also change. Being able to introduce her to new ideas and concepts and seeing her explore them for the first time.
What’s the hardest thing about being a parent? Time! There isn’t enough of it.
