Course 1
HEALTHY CHOICES/HEALTHY LIVING A i²Flex course for students entering grades 10-12
June 26- July 7 (8 on- line lessons, and 2 face-to-face class meetings on June 26 and July 3, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.) Faculty: Ms. Lambrini Rontogiannis This project-based course offers an intensive study of the important health and nutrition topics necessary for all high school students to know, so that they can make informed choices to promote physical, mental and emotional health. The student will study such topics as mental health: self-esteem, substance abuse, stress management, nutrition and exercise, sex and human sexuality and STD’s. Successful completion of this course will earn students .5 credits and satisfy the ACS Athens graduation requirement for Health. COST: 450 EUROS Minimum enrollment: 5 students. Maximum enrollment: 15 students.

CREATE AND DEVELOP YOUR PORTFOLIO: SUMMER ART SEMINARS An intensive studio class for students entering grades 10-12 June 26 – July 7, 2017 (Weekdays, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) Students should expect to complete a significant amount of additional individual work throughout the duration of the class.
Faculty: Ms. Farida El Gazzar The summer seminars will run for 10 days, 3 hours per seminar. In each seminar, studentartists will develop and strengthen their drawing and creative visual skills. They will explore and practice drawing and painting a variety of subjects taken from their surroundings as they, develop their use of a range of materials and media. Classes will take place both indoors and outdoors, at ACS Athens and at selected locations around Athens -- city spaces, museums, parks.
Students will practice observational and free style drawing to acquire a sense of space and proportion. In the outdoor sessions, students will record and draw the natural and the urban landscape as studies for compositions. They will improve and further their practice in drawing and painting, learning how to record detail from their immediate environment, recording structures and forms in the city. In the indoor sessions, students will strengthen their artistic skills and draw still life compositions, using observational and measuring tools, as well as applying gradation of color and greyscale tones. The seminars will offer an introduction to the theory and the principles of design; a general view of the field of applied arts (from aesthetic, technical and expressive viewpoints); combinations and compositions using a variety of materials and applications for the development of students’ aesthetic sense and creativity. By the end of the course, students will have created a new body of work showing a diverse selection of subjects and use of medium, while enriching their art portfolio. 1. Still Life Drawing (from studio and museum visits) Sessions 1-2 (six hours) 2. Compositional & Linear Drawing (from studio and outdoor visits) Sessions 3-5 (six hours) 3. AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION LAB An introductory media class for students entering grades 10-12 June 26 – July 7, 2017 (Weekdays, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) Students should expect to complete additional online/individual work outside of class.
Faculty: Mr. John Papadakis Mr. Thanassis Palos Get the skills to make a short video documentary and a short audio/radio piece with this intensive practical course that makes use of the resources available in the Sabbagh Media Lab in the ACS Athens Learning Commons. Designed for beginners, this course offers the technical and creative foundation for such productions. Skills that will be explored Concept development Storytelling Writing for radio and TV Conducting interviews and collecting audio/video footage Use of camera, sound and video recording and editing equipment and software. Collaborative shooting, recording and editing of video and audio. Software used: Final Cut Pro X Motion Adobe Premiere
After Effects Photoshop
Students are encouraged to supply their own digital video camera or audio recording equipment. Otherwise, students will have shared access to ACS Athens equipment. Also, students should provide their own portable USB drive (at least 1TB), so they can save their projects to work on them outside of class. Successful completion of this course will earn students .5 credits in Technology or in the Arts, towards fulfillment of the ACS Athens graduation requirement. (This course does not replace Computer Science 1.) COST: 450 EUROS Minimum enrollment: 7 students. Maximum enrollment: 15 students.
