July 3rd/4th Livestock 2013 (formerly the Dairy Event) at the NEC, Birmingham October 21st Society show and sale Chelford

RABDF is pleased to announce it will be organising a new National Dairy Show as part of the ever expanding Livestock Event, which next year will be held on 3rd and 4th July at The NEC, Birmingham. Following a full consultation with all dairy breed societies this autumn, RABDF has taken on board the key points raised and made significant changes to the dairy classes for 2013. To encourage entries and bearing in mind the total costs to farmers of exhibiting, RABDF has reduced its stall fees from £70 to £50+ vat per stall place booked. In addition, to help farmers with accommodation costs, RABDF has reduced the fee for caravans and sleeper lorries to just £50+vat in total for all three nights and it is currently negotiating generous discounts for stockmen’s meals at the event. There will be set prize money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, payable in cash at the show and the amounts will be detailed in the 2013 Cattle Schedule. Also £50 will be presented for each cow placed in the show ring. This will make stall costs in effect free for all those entries that turn up. Sian Mercer, RABDF’s Livestock Coordinator who is responsible for all activities in the Livestock Hall comments “ This is a fantastic opportunity for those who enjoy showing cattle to compete on a level playing field, in a professional environment free from interference, allowing all exhibitors with good cows the real chance of taking home a trophy.” She adds “For those who use showing as an opportunity to promote their herd, there is no better time or place in the country to do

this than at the largest event for dairy farmers. Showing Several members have indicated that they would like to show their cattle but find it very difficult to be away from the farm for the period of the shows, particularly when the show is held over a number of days. We are also aware that there are several people who would be prepared to look after someone else’s cows at the shows for some or even all of the time of the show. If you would like to show your cattle but need some help to look after the cattle at the show please let us know and we will endeavour to put you in touch with someone who can help.
