SUMMER 2017 DAIRY NEWSLETTER The Shorthorn Society are pleased to announce the appointment of Ros Rimmer as our new Breed Secretary. Ros will commence her new part time role on the 17th July 2017 and brings with her a wealth of experience from within the agricultural business sector. Ros is sure to be a great asset and the Society feels extremely lucky to have her leading us forward. The Society has also decided to appoint Graham Bell as a part time field officer. Graham and his wife Barbara register their animals under the Irthingvale Prefix. Graham has vast knowledge of the breed and the Dairy industry so it makes him an ideal candidate to promote the breed and support new and existing members. Claire Ward will continue her excellent work as the first point of contact in the office.

100,000kgs The breed now has ten cows that have achieved over 100,000kgs demonstrating the fantastic longevity of the breed. The latest member of this elite club is Amber Grey Dolly 10th EX90 who achieved this over twelve lactations. She has several daughters in the herd one that is currently milking in her eighth lactation and one that is in her sixth lactation which demonstrates that strong families definitely carry great genetics.

Annual General Meeting The AGM and Judging day at Church Farm was a great success as many breeders travelled far and wide to attend and view the home of Churchroyd Peggy 19th. Churchroyd Peggy 19th won two consecutive Interbreed Crowns last year, first at the well established National Dairy Shorthorn Show held at The Royal Cheshire Show and then at The Great Yorkshire Show. All the cows were a credit to Peggy prepared 19 the Collins family. Wendy and her Clippaholics Churchroyd team had expertly the entire herd and the judging workshop cows were full of milk and showed all the udder quality and dairy style you would expect from a Churchroyd animal. Many thanks go to The Collins Family and friends for all their hard work and effort that they put into making the day a great success.

Tranfers are still free, so please continue to make sure that you advise the office of any sales or purchases to keep all your and the animals records up to date.

Junior Members The Society has now set up a Junior Members forum on FB that allows young members to discuss, ask questions and chat amongst themselves. This was set up in the hope of bringing the junior members closer together despite the distance that separates them. This year by kind permission of Brinsbury College we had the first Young Members weekend. Dan Stamper the main force behind this weekend planned an enjoyable and informative two days that revolved around the Brinsbury show. The kids had a fabulous weekend which the Society hopes will be the first of many to come. Ken Prestidge is looking for a few buildings to rent or share if anyone can help please call Ken on 07771267625
