Scholarship Recipient Reflection We love to highlight our regional award and scholarship winners. This month we feature Kelli Farris (Kansas State University), our most recent ACUI Annual Conference Scholarship winner.
How did this scholarship (and the associated event) have an impact on your career? The scholarship to attend the ACUI Annual Conference made it possible for me to attend the conference and gain valuable opportunities to meet with other colleagues about student organizations, leadership development programming, and becoming a new mid-level manager. As a presenter this year, my office budget was also taxed with covering the expenses for my co-presenter to attend the conference; the scholarship for me to attend made it more possible for me to share funds with others in my office for them to gain similar opportunities. What is one thing you learned from your ACUI experience? I learned that ACUI really is my professional home. The smiling faces, the challenging conversations, and the encouragement to keep doing the work we’re all doing is something that I need year in and year out. ACUI Annual Conference always comes at just the right time in the year to give me that little boost I need in order to make through the remainder of the year. Any advice for other students or professionals who are considering getting involved with ACUI? DO IT!! Don’t waste time to get involved and dive deeper into ways to not just attend ACUI events but to get involved and volunteer. I have the great pleasure of also serving ACUI as the I-LEAD® Program Team Lead and the experiences, relationships, and opportunities the volunteerism within the association has provided is something I’ll never be able to repay.
