Send your undergraduate student staff to conference! Student Hunter LaBrie attended the conference last year with his team from LBJ Student Center at Texas State University. Here’s what he had to say about his experience:

As one of the student employee managers, I felt it was my job to attend and bring back knowledge and a different way of thinking back to my co-workers. Even though every session was successful in getting something new into my mind, the biggest thing that I took away from ACUI was community-both within my own organization and across the region.

AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIPS We’re proud of the amazing work our colleagues, students, and institutions are doing in Region II, and we know you are too! We encourage you to nominate, nominate, NOMINATE for our regional awards. There are six different awards that will be announced at our Region II Conference, honoring the work we do across the region. For a full description of each award, a list of requirements for nomination, and lists of past winners, you can visit the Region II awards website (https://www.acui.org/regions/ii/regional-awards). AWARD HIGHLIGHT
Shirley Bird Perry Distinguished Service Award The Shirley Bird Perry Distinguished Service Award, established by Region 12 in 1999 and adopted by Region II in 2014, honors one of the most influential leaders in Region 12 for more than four decades. After being named the “Most Outstanding Woman Student” as a senior at the University of Texas–Austin, Perry began her professional career as a program director and then as director of the Texas Union. During her union career, she was the first woman to be elected to the ACUI Executive Committee, serving as vice president for conference program from 1968–70. She was also the first woman to serve as president of the organization in 1972–73. She was the first woman to receive the Association’s highest recognition, the Butts-Whiting Award, in 1976. She worked as coordinator of educational programs and services at the ACUI Central Office from 1976–79. Perry returned to an administrative position at the University of Texas–Austin in 1979, and was a vice chancellor for the University of Texas System when she passed away in May 2011. LEADERSHIP TEAM Audrey Taggart-Kagdis is the 2020 conference chair for ACUI Region II. She has volunteered in the past on the Future of the Brand task force and has served on multiple leadership and conference teams. Audrey received the 2016 Region II William H. Smith Outstanding Professional Award. She is the director of marketing at the K-State Student Union at Kansas State University. Audrey enjoys baseball, small batch bourbon and reading.
Ricardo Reyes is the volunteer coordinator for Region II. He is the assistant director of the University Center at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He has worked in higher education for 18 years with over fifteen in the student affairs in the student union. Rick has lived in Corpus Christi most of his life and enjoys fishing the coastal waters along the city and island shores.
