PLASTIKOPHOBIA Plastikophobia is an immersive art installation created using over 18,000 plastic cups collected from local food centers across Singapore to raise awareness for single-use plastic pollution. After artist Von Wong was invited to host an exhibition at the Sustainable Singapore Gallery (SSG), he and social impact strategist, Laura Francois, came up with the idea to create a new installation. CDL and the National Environment Agency (NEA) heard about the installation and graciously joined the effort as sponsors. Wong created the installation with fellow artist Joshua Goh and a team of over 100 volunteers over 10 days.

THE RED & WHITE BASH In 2013, to celebrate 25 years of continued s u c c e s s , A d a m A l e k s a n d e r P re s e n t s collaborated with Wine Enthusiast Magazine to throw The Red & White Bash with 100% of the proceeds going to Wine to Water, a charity that brings clean drinking water to developing communities. The traveling carnival themed experience was held at the Hudson Hotel and featured sponsors and partners such as Flavorpill and Underground Eats. As an aerialist dangled in a crescent moon overhead, guests explored delicious food and wine options while Michael Arnella and his Dreamland Band serenaded the premier wine-tasting event.

ABSOLUT BAR RECYCLE

ABSOLUT BAR RECYCLE In celebration of Earth Day and as a part of their new sustainability campaign, Absolut Vodka launched a new pop-up bar called Absolut Bar Recycle in New York City this April. The pop-up featured interactive installations created with recycled materials and natural elements and custom art by Dallasbased artist, Sunflowerman. Guests were encouraged to join in the sustainability movement by exchanging their recyclables for speciality Absolut cocktails served in reusable mason jars. To increase its mission, Absolut also donated $50,000 to the Plastic Pollution Collation to combat plastic waste in New York.

ENERGY PLAYGROUND Global Inheritance, a non-profit organization working to reinvent activism, launched a new initiative at Coachella in 2007 called “Energy Playground.” The pop-up playground featured Energy Seesaws which gave festival-goers the opportunity to recharge their phones and Energy Bikes that were used to blend snow cones. Participants were able to see, firsthand, how much physical energy is required to power a lithium battery and do other seemingly insignificant tasks all while taking in DJ sets, learning about energy conservation from volunteers and burning off the festival food from the night before.

TREE VR

TREE VR Tree VR is a virtual reality experience created by Milica Zec and Winslow Porter of New Reality Co. The project transforms the participant into a rainforest tree as their arms grow into branches and their body the trunk. The experience takes you from a seedling to a tree in its fullest form, experiencing the growth of the tree and its eventual fate. The project exposes viewers to the realities of deforestation and encourages them to take action to keep forests standing by joining the Rainforest Alliance to rebalance the earth. The project has toured internationally and is now in permanent residence at The Assemblage Park Avenue.

PRIDETABLE StoryCourse’s Adam Kantor and Brian Bordainick joined forces once again to bring PrideTable, a two week long pop-up theatrical dining experience, to life as a part of World Pride in New York City this June. The experience featured a five-course meal punctuated with five powerful and personal stories by a diverse group of international LGBTQ+ chefs. PrideTable partnered with The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) creating employment and workshop opportunities for the youth from the Harvey Milk School. Proeeds from PrideTable went towards funding this Arts&Culture Workforce program on an annual basis through HMI.

STAY HOME TO THE MOVIES

STAY HOME TO THE MOVIES This July, HBO and Giant Spoon teamed up to create a new pop-up neighborhood of tiny homes called “Stay Home To The Movies” in Brooklyn’s Domino Park. The experience was free and open to the public and featured 10-person HBO movies in the tiny homes with sound experiences by Sonos, free food and drinks, backyard games and outdoor films for the local community. At the end of the event, all of the materials from the “neigHBOrhood” were donated to Habitat for Humanity NYC which helps build housing for low- to moderate-income families across the five boroughs.

BILLION OYSTER PARTY

BILLION OYSTER PARTY The Billion Oyster Party is an annual event created by The Billion Oyster Project. Described as “the ultimate oyster experience,” the party is a large scale fundraiser to support the movement to restore the New York Harbor and local marine environments. Guests have the opportunity to mingle with over 50 oyster farmers as they shuck and serve their delicacies, enjoy oyster-themed bites from 25 local restaurants, listen to live music and sample spirits and wines from local partners all while learning about oyster restoration. The event culminates in the annual BOP All-Star Oyster Shucking championships.

YOUR NEIGHBOR’S BACKYARD In 2015 Lauren Cortizo and Dominique Bañas launched YNB (Your Neighbor's Backyard), a series of music, comedy and art shows that bring together local artists to raise money and awareness for global causes. Each event brings together musicians and comedians for a onenight only event taking place in a donated backyard with all proceeds benefiting a charity. Since launching, YNB has expand to New York City, had 17 shows, raised over $16,500 for charity, 80+ artists have performed and over 1100 unique attendees have been to a YNB show. The next YNB show is on Saturday, August 17th in Brooklyn.

TINY HOUSE As a part of 2019’s NYCxDESIGN, Brooklynb a s e d a r t i s t a n d d e s i g n e r, F e r n a n d o Mastrangelo, decided to create an immersive, interactive and sensory space in the middle of T i m e s S q u a re t h a t w o u l d s h o w h o w architecture can help continue the lifecycle of discarded materials. Inspired by the issues surrounding climate change, TINY HOUSE, was made from reclaimed materials, such as recycled glass and plastic, all within a 175 sq.ft footprint. The space featured a home wellness intelligence program that intuitively responded to conditions by purifying its air, water, and emitting rhythmic sound and light.
